“Marketing” is a ubiquitous term applied to almost anything. Market your brand. Market your name. Market your product. Market your library. “Market your library” sounds a bit odd – maybe because in academia we don’t think we need to market our library. We’re a firmly established part of the institution. We may change over time, but it’s unlikely we’ll disappear, and any “marketing” we do probably will not result in more funding from our parent institution. A survey design was adopted using a questionnaire as the main instrument for collecting data. Abstract

The paper examines the rate at which students register with the library by comparing the fresh and the returning undergraduate students in the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Nigeria. Two hundred and fifty (250) copies of questionnaire were randomly distributed among students in late August, 2015 while two hundred and twenty four (224) copies were returned. Also used as databases for the study are the library statistics of registered students and the University’s student enrolment list for a period of five years starting from 2009/2010 to 2013/2014 academic sessions. The success of the petroleum industry at all levels depend largely on petroleum engineers’ awareness and access to relevant information for making sound Exploration and Production decisions. This study investigated the information seeking behaviour of Petroleum Engineers in selected companies in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. A survey design was adopted using questionnaire as the instrument for collecting primary data from 250 petroleum engineers randomly selected from four oil companies. Data gathered were analysed using frequencies, simple percentages and mean score count. Every library has a distinctive organizational culture with norms, values, rules, beliefs, and basic assumptions that have developed over time and are shared by the people who make up the organization. This culture shapes the perceptions and assumptions of the library’s personnel. A healthy culture can evoke a passion for the work, a loyalty and commitment to the organization’s mission, and a deep-seated belief in the organization’s value.

Results will be shared from a survey using the Bolman and Deal leadership orientation framework (1990, 1991, 1992, 2003) to explore how academic library leaders and managers in Ohio and Michigan prefer to interpret and solve problems. Now, we are experimenting with on-demand streaming media with the help of Kanopy, a distributor of online videos from a variety of popular documentary filmmakers and producers. During the past five years (2010-2015), U.S. universities experienced a simultaneous downturn in financial support along with rapid changes in technology and increased demand for accountability. Academic libraries, among the most central and visible units in the university system, were often at the forefront of financial cutbacks and increased pressure to demonstrate both unit effectiveness and closer alignment with the overall institutional mission. The Anchor: 2015

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Professional Identity And You: Why Self-Concept Matters In Librarianship, Kevin Tanner

Kevin Tanner addresses the importance of professional identity in librarianship. In the Summer 2015 semester, he completed an independent study on the construction of professional identity of librarians on Twitter through professional development and networking. During this session, he shares the results of that study and give suggestions on how you can begin to find your own professional identity while still retaining your individuality. While there are many stereotypes about librarians, they are not “one-size-fits-all” professionals, and a new modern image of the professional has begun to emerge in the digital age through a thoughtful reflection on identity.

2015 Slac Presentation: Correlation Between Library Instruction And Student Retention, Mary O'Kelly

Grand Valley State University Libraries has found a statistically significant positive correlation between librarian-led instruction and student retention. The libraries’ Head of Instructional Services and the university's Institutional Analysis department worked together to connect library instruction with student-level data and then analyze that data over several academic years. This presentation will outline the data collection process, analysis methods, limitations, and outcomes of a longitudinal study.
