According to a new report (http://tinyurl.com/2g6ghps), if you are on the Web at all you’re not safe from hackers, phishers, and spammers (oh my!). The Norton Cybercrime Report: The Human Impact (http://cybercrime.newslinevine.com/) of 7,000 Web users tells us that 65% of all users globally, and 73% of U. S. users, have been hacked in some sort of cybercrime. Globally, the U. S. ranks very high but in this case we’re not first in line. China wins Number One with 83% of its users web-abused in some manner. These are figures to give one pause.

Help, I’M Lost! Developing A Library Mapping System Without Breaking The Bank, Paul S. Gallagher

Large libraries share a common challenge--helping patrons find materials. The Wayne State University Library System launched its library mapping application in February 2010, designed to help locate materials in the five WSU libraries. The system works within the catalog to show the location of materials, as well as provides a web form for use at the reference desk to lookup items by call number. Developed using open-source technology, it requires only minimal effort to update using a unique call number overlay mechanism. Faculty may be unaware of how many library resources are available to support their course assignments. Additionally their assignments may not be designed in a way that makes the best use of library resources. “Shopping list” assignments may cause students to spend too much time searching and not enough time engaging with the material and developing higher order thinking skills.

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Abstract: Information literacy (IL) plays a prominent role in the knowledge based society; especially effective use of IT based services and collaborative learning in the various levels of the educational system. This paper presents the findings of a survey on the level of information skills among the students of higher education. The scope of the study covers various aspects like awareness about the use of library resources, both print and electronic; knowledge about various sources of information including Internet; familiarity with and use of information communication technologies and copyright and fair use of information etc.

Communication within an academic library can be challenging. The collective nature of wikis and their ability to allow multiple people to edit them have made wikis an ideal technology to help address communication issues within organizations. A successful wiki implementation can help to improve communication issues, but only if staff adopt the new technology. University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) libraries implemented an internal staff wiki in 2007 to replace the staff intranet. Information routinely stored on the wiki includes meeting minutes and committee work, policies and procedures and training materials. Using Process Mapping To Assess And Improve Eresource Workflow, Kelly Smith

The Continuing Resources Team at Eastern Kentucky University Libraries has used a structured, collaborative process mapping approach to identify workflow problems and make improvements. We also identified better tools for sharing information that is needed by multiple staff members. Co-presented at the 2010 Charleston Confernece as part of the "Innovative Practices in Electronic Resources and Acquisition Management" preconference workshop.
