The Anchor, Volume 119.09: November 9, 2005, Hope College
The Anchor: 2005
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Demise Of The Reference Desk: Tradition And Transformation, Ann Ellis, Tina Oswald
Librarian and Staff Presentations
This presentation discusses changes and outcomes that took place when the Stephen F. Austin State University Library reorganized its Research and Instructional Services Department. The library removed its Reference Desk, and offered research services through office hours, a faculty liaison program, consultations, and an enhanced information literacy focus. The library continued to operate an Information Desk that had a limited scope of responsibility. The presentation outlines the problems encountered, and considered that changes would continue to be made based upon user surveys and satisfaction of staff.

This is a presentation at the ASIS&T 2005 Annual Meeting session on Progress in the Design and Evaluation of Digital Libraries: Implications for Research and Education (moderator: Kyung-Sun Kim). The presentation discusses the creation, design, and management of dLIST, an open access archive for the Information Sciences, and the affiliated DL-Harvest, an open access aggregator and federated search engine. As an Eprints-based open access archive, dLIST is a digital repository but it is a cross-institutional and interdisciplinary repository built on the concept of "sustainable information behaviors." Elements such as openness, transparency, information quality and interoperability are critical components along with …

In June 2003, Winifred S. “Winnie” Foster donated a collection of clippings, photographs, and archival materials that document her involvement in local civil liberties activities and the development of commercial activities at the Central Plaza Shopping Center. Born in 1927, Winnie grew up in a Quaker home environment. She and other farm girls in rural Ohio often made clothes from feed sacks. As she came of age, she embraced the Quaker tradition of pacifism and commitment for equality. She and her husband, also a Quaker, moved to Rhode Island and supported liberal causes. Collaboration In Support Of Curricular Innovation, Shelley Bader, Alexandra Gomes, James Michelson
Himmelfarb Library Faculty Posters and Presentations
The migration of traditional anatomy and pathology wet labs to a digital format requires significant planning and collaboration amongst key faculty, administrative, and technology personnel. In addition to conversion of course materials, the changed format necessitated the renovation of a traditional bench lab to a state-of-the art digital classroom, significant IT investment, and ongoing coordination by library, classroom and computer resources personnel. Standardized policies and procedures were developed to guide additional requests for software to support new educational initiatives.
