Information resource management supports information management, which is managing the ownership, content, quality, and use of information.The research reported on in this article aimed to know how information systems are supported for small scale industries, represented here by the tapioca industry. The sample selected for the study is 155. The results of the analysis of data collected using a questionnaire found that a majority of respondents received information frequently.

Difficulties And Motivation Of Postgraduate Students In Selected Nigerian Universities, Stella E. Igun

A total of two hundred questionnaires were sent to selected postgraduate schools in Nigeria. There was a 78 percent response rate. Questions inquired about difficulties encountered during the study period and motivational indices based on Maslow's theory of need were applied. The answers given were computed using percentages. Nigerian postgraduate students were found to be unmotivated and facing difficulties in their studies. The Nigerian postgraduate schools need immediate overhauling and updating to the international standard of e-study environment.

A Snapshot Of Information-Seeking Behavior Literature In Health Sciences: A Bibliometric Approach, Ahmed Bakeri Abubakar, Yahya Ibrahim Harande

This study is a snapshot on the literature of information seeking behavior in the discipline of health sciences during the years 2000-2007. A total of 801 papers were identified in Medline through the PubMed database. Bibliometric analysis was conducted to explore growth of the literature, authorship patterns, and Bradford distribution of the literature and language of dispersion of the literature. The findings indicate that there is a rapid growth of information seeking behavior in health sciences from 2004 onward. The paper presents the results of a survey on the usefulness of the services offered by Pakistan Library Automation Group (PakLAG). A questionnaire was distributed to participants (n=207), who included LIS practitioners, faculty, and students. Most respondents found PakLAG services very useful for their work. They praised the PakLAG's efforts to help the library community in using ICTs and gave many suggestions to improve services.

Internet Use Behavior And Attitude Of College Students: A Survey Of Leadership Colleges' Network, Muhammad Safdar, Khalid Mahmood, Saima Qutab

This article reports on a survey on Internet use behavior and attitude of college students. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed after a related literature review. A total of 800 students from four campuses of Leadership College's network were chosen for the survey. Demographics (sex, age, educational level) and reasons for Internet use, availability of computer and Internet at home, training in Internet use, most-used search engines and email services, as well as attitudes of students were analyzed. Students acknowledge the worth of the Internet for learning and sharing.

The library and its services are fundamental to the socioeconomic and educational development of a nation. In the Niger Delta, a majority of the people live in rural areas and engage in fishing and farming. Library services can improve their level of literacy and education and and enhance their ability to use information relevant to their daily lives. Barriers to library service in the rural areas of the Niger Delta are poor infrastructure, inadequate funding, and inadequate staffing. Recommendations are made to improve the situation.

Reforming Or Rejecting The Reference Desk: Conflict And Continuity In The Concept Of Reference, David S. Nolen

This paper contends that the schism between pro- and anti-reference desk librarians is not a true dichotomy. By examining the published literature on the topic, this paper asserts that the two sides actually agree that human-mediation is fundamental to references services, although the articles do examine varying methods for the delivery of reference services. While some emphasize the need to incorporate a more computer-mediated model of reference, most do not truly reject human-mediation as necessary. Those that do fail to provide a satisfactory alternative in the current social and technological context.

Survey and focus group research on a sample of female undergraduates at the University of Ibadan sought information on their use of information on contraception. Results showed that female undergraduates receive information on contraception regularly through the broadcast media and friends; however, they have only partial knowledge, because of twelve method of contraception, they are generally familiar with only three, particularly condoms. Newspapers remain an important research source, as well as a means of recreation and a source of current news. A study of newspaper use by students in the Faculty of Managment Science and the Faculty of Agriculture at Delta State University, Anwai Campus, used a questionnaire and records of newspaper requests in the library to discover student preferences and their reasons for preferring particular titles. The results show a high rate of use, and a general preference for information in their disciplines and unbiased reporting.

The research was conducted in southern Nigeria federal university libraries to identify the extent of ICT use for serials functions. A questionnaire was distributed to staff from the 11 federal university libraries in southern Nigeria. The results reveal that serials functions are still predominately manual, with ICT being more prominent in the serials public services and preservation functions; public services activities involving the use of ICT are mainly access to and retrieval of serials and article titles. The paper explores library and information services in agricultural science university libraries in south India. A structured questionnaire collected user information on user perceptions. The University of Agricultural Sciences Library, Bangalore and the University of Agricultural Sciences Library, Dharwad ranked first and second in user satisfaction. A majority of the post graduate students (77.25%) and research scholars (72.04%) reported that their recommendation are not considered in procuring the information resources, but most faculty (78.12%) state that their recommendation are taken into consideration. A majority of users found the existing print collection adequate, but that electronic sources are inadequate.

The Post-UME screening examination conducted by the University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti (TUNEDIK), particularly in essay writing, exposed inadequacies in most of the candidates. A total of 500 candidates were randomly selected for this study from five departments of the three foundation faculties of education, science and information technology and arts, social and management sciences. 200 out of the 500 candidates (40%) scored 200 marks and above in JAMB, 125 candidates (25%) scored 190-199, also 125 candidates (25%) again scored 180-189 and 50 candidates (10%) scored 170-179 in JAMB. This study explores the degree to which academic librarians in Nigeria are committed to accepting the use of impact factor for assessing their academic performance. Fifty copies of a questionnaire were distributed and 41 returned. Descriptive statistics using means and percentages were used to generate data. A majority of the respondents disagreed that impact factor had wider acceptance than any alternative. More than half did not agree that many Nigerian scholars are reluctant to publish in international journals. The ability to read is one determiner of students' success or failure. The skill acquired in reading can promote the acquisition of language skills like listening, speaking, and writing. Some primary school pupils find it difficult to read and understand despite the fact that reading is indispensable. A questionnaire was administered to teachers of English language in five primary schools in the Ibadan northeast local government of Oyo state. The results show strong views on the role of teachers, parents, and government in the important matter of reading comprehension and literacy among primary school pupils.

This study investigates the attitudes of staff users toward the payment of overdue fines in Nigerian Polytechnic libraries. A survey was applied to staff users of the libraries of the Delta State Polytechnic Oghara-Otefe, and Delta State Polytechnic. A total of 87 staff participated in the study. A questionnaire and oral interview were used in data collection. Findings reveal that staff users rarely pay overdue fines and would like the system discontinued. A survey of staff and students at Delta State University, Abraka showed that nearly all staff and students have a personal mobile phone, but that GSM technology has not been implemented in the library. Staff and students see potential for GSM use in library services, although there are problams with infrastructure, cost, and service interruption. This paper examines ICT applications in Nigerian secondary schools. It reveals that ICTs should be adopted in Nigerian schools to improve the educational system and help the students receive a solid education, enabling them to live successfully. Though some efforts have been made to ensure the integration of ICTs in the system, the level of ICT adoption and use is low, due to poor policy/project implementation strategies, and limited/poor information infrastructure.
