This research project sought to understand the various issues facing Black communities in West Virginia and the efforts being made by Affrilachian (African Americans in Appalachia) people and communities to address the issues that they face and to build spaces and initiatives that support Affrilachian communities to survive and thrive. The contributions of Black West Virginians to the region have often gone ignored in mainstream histories and continue to be ignored by mainstream media. Then about twenty five years ago, beginning in the Midwest, the term began to take on a new meaning. It referred to the development of a new agricultural industry, the commercial production of sod for lawns in residential and recreational areas, industrial parks and in the beautification of freeway and highway systems. All human behavior occurs in space and can therefore be studied in a manner that emphasizes the locational components of that behavior. One tenent fundamental to spatiallyfocused studies is that decisions related to spatial behavior are perceived as rational. This paper exam'ines a model of a particular type of spatial behavior involving decisions-the shopping behavior of rural people when buying retail goods or services that are relatively ubiquitous. William J, Reilly's law of retail gravitationl and the related breaking-point equation, derived mathematically from Reilly's law and explicitly stated byPaul D. At present academic inquiry is guided by various research paradigms, the most popular ones being those affiliated with metaphysics, phenomenology and positivism, while the literature to date lacks an explicit structural typology identifying and interrelating these formats. As a result, numerous peculiar classification schemes have been created. In recent years a determined effort has been made to domesticate new animals with most attention focusing on the eland, which is native to the arid and semi-arid areas of southern and eastern Africa, and the musk ox of arctic North America.1 The underlying purpose of these efforts is to develop lands that are currently either poorly used or not used at all. The natural habitats of the musk ox and the eland are areas plagued by cold temperatures or aridity. These regions have resisted man's attempts at agriculture. A simulation game designed to facilitate learning to read and to use topographic maps was tested among sample groups of college undergraduates and high school seniors. The board game, "Natural Disaster," permits two to four students to participate in property location decisions, based on their understanding of natural hazards which are to be inferred from the topographic map's contours and locations of particular places. A randomizing procedure assigned the students to one of two treatments, the simulation game or a lecture-discussion, both of which covered the same substantive material. The original base of the Russian iron and steel industry was located near Tula which is situated in the Central Industrial region. The smelting of small deposits of local iron ore was begun with the utilization of charcoal made from the surrounding forests. A secondary region developed near Lake Onega in the northwestern section of Russia. On July 24, 1847, the vanguard of the Mormon migration reached the valley of the Great Salt Lake. By December, 1849, the Mormon population had increased to over 8,000, and was spread over 26 settlements from Ft. Bridger west to near Carson City, and from Ogden south to Manti. Within two and a half years the Mormons had established the foundation of their theo-democratic kingdom in the Great Basin. The paucity of research .articles by geographers on the political and planning aspects of the marine environment is evident from review of the geographical literature. It is undoubtedly true that there are some geographers who are involved at all levels of policy making in this region, but the fruits of their efforts have not been made available to a professional audience - fifteen articles in three major U.S. geographical journals in the past 16 years is not very commendable. The region of Southcentral Louisiana, particularly around Bayou Teche, thrives on its commercial and recreational fisheries. These fisheries are occasionally subject to events like extreme weather that cause sudden and unexpected losses (NOAA Fisheries, 2024a). Between 2019 and 2023, a series of extreme weather events impacted southcentral Louisiana near Bayou Teche. This series of extreme events includes Hurricane Barry (2019), Hurricane Laura (2020), Hurricane Delta (2020), Hurricane Zeta (2020), Hurricane Ida (2021), and a United States Drought Monitor (USDM) D4 drought (2023). Environmental perception is a strategic concern within geography; and climate is an integral factor influencing man's responses to the complex environment. This study focuses on climatic perception, which constitutes an integral aspect of environmental awareness. Much work has been done in the field of environmental perception. The problem of surplus cattle population in India has been widely discussed. The low yield of milk and the roaming cattle everywhere, even in the cities, give an idea of surplus cattle population, and have led to the general izations made about the irrational wastefulness of the large cattle numbers. However, the usefulness of cattle in India should not be judged only in terms of milk yield, because cattle contribute to the prosperity of the farmer in more important ways than by providing milk. The Councilor: A National Journal of the Social Studies
This semester-long project examined the use of social studies trade books to thematically teach the civic contributions of three individuals who served as change agents in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th century. Two were African American men, Robert Smalls and Frederick Douglass, who took civic action to address racial discrimination faced by the Black community following the U.S. Civil War. The other was Ida B. Wells who challenged social inequities and injustices within her community. Throughout this project, sixth-grade students read selected trade books, examined primary sources, completed graphic organizers, and crafted writing …

Renewed interest in bicycling has occurred in the last ten years.'
