In the first chapter I identify the impact of fentanyl exposure misinformation- namely, the erroneous belief that momentary, passive contact with the potent opioid fentanyl can be seriously harmful- on first responder behavior during overdose events, and on overall opioid-related mortality. I examine changes in opioid-related mortality following one particularly well-covered episode involving an Ohio police officer in 2017, wherein the officer appeared to experience an acute opioid overdose after touching what was believed to be fentanyl. Employing a synthetic differences-in-differences identification strategy, I find areas with greater media exposure to this misinformation exhibit marked increases in opioid overdose deaths; …

This conceptual overview offers a comprehensive overview of systemic pathways that negatively impact the mental health of Black Men throughout their lives. Our argument highlights the importance for counselors and mental health professionals to utilize a thorough social risk assessment that considers these pathways in order to effectively address the mental health needs of Black Men while fostering positive working relationships. This overview strongly advocates for the use of context and structural determinants when evaluating mental health symptoms. Without an appropriate understanding of social risk and determinants, counselors may inadvertently perpetuate disparities by decontextualizing symptomology, and reproducing racist discourse.

Urban farming can enhance the lives of communities and help reduce food scarcity. This paper presents a conceptual prototype of an efficient urban farming community that can be scaled for a single apartment building or an entire community across all global geoeconomics regions, including densely populated cities and rural, developing towns and communities. Malnutrition in children is still a problem in low and middle-income countries, including Indonesia. This research aims to assess how the mother's mental health influences the child's nutritional status, measured by stunting and underweight status, in the short term (when the child is 0-5 years old) and long-term (when the child is 7-12 years old). The number of National Health Insurance (JKN) participants receiving Contribution Assistance (PBI) in Tangerang City from regional funding continues to increase by around 8.85% per year. On the other hand, the number of JKN participants who are non-wage earners (PBPU) and non-workers (BP) who pay contributions independently has decreased by around 0.7% per year from 2017-2022. One of the implications of this phenomenon is that the regional budget to finance JKN contributions for PBI participants is much larger than the budget for other programs. This research is an observational study by estimating the indirect costs of lost productivity due to premature deaths in COVID-19 patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital in 2021 and knowing the characteristics of the patients. BPJS Health experienced various challenges in achieving Universal Health Coverage / Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN), including a referral system. According to the 2018 National Health Account, curative spending costs reached 69.1%. The Case Mix Index (CMI) is a benchmark for hospital performance abroad, but Indonesian hospitals have not used it. In 2019, BPJS Health tested CMI in 30 hospitals. The research uses sample data from 2019-2020 based on province, hospital type and ownership. The methods used are anova test, independent T, linear regression and multiple linear regression. High temperatures caused by climate change significantly impact society, including child nutrition. Our research focuses on the impact of high temperatures on the anthropometric outcomes of children aged 1 to 5 in 54 countries worldwide. We analyze the historical climate and anthropometric data to evaluate the effect of high temperature on weight-for-age (WAZ) and weight-for-height (WHZ) in children. Results indicate that high temperatures negatively affect child nutrition, particularly in areas above 20°C, and children in rural areas are more vulnerable. In Chapter 1, I investigate the effect of a financial incentive from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on new medical procedure technology diffusion. I examine how the incentive affects diffusion among Medicare patients, for whom hospitals receive the incentives, and non-Medicare patients for whom there are no incentives. I answer these two questions by studying the New Technology Add-on Payment (NTAP) program offered by Medicare (Part A). Rising rates of severe maternal morbidity in the U.S. highlight the unmet need for continuous and comprehensive health care for women before, during, and after pregnancy. This data slice summarizes findings from a study that tested whether ACA Medicaid expansions helped reduce severe maternal morbidity, including transfusion, ruptured uterus, unplanned hysterectomy, eclampsia, and the need for intensive care. Results show little evidence that the ACA expansions improved maternal morbidity, other than reducing the need for blood transfusions.

Skilled Workers’ Mobility And Attrition: The Case Of Florida Emergency Medicine Physicians, Vassina Hassane Meite

Emergency medicine (EM) physicians constitute the front line of healthcare providers. They work swiftly to address critical situations, diagnose illnesses, and stabilize patients. Amidst a growing need and shortage of EM physicians, this longitudinal descriptive study captures EM physicians’ preferences for practice locations by studying Florida EM physicians’ relocation patterns between 2006 and 2020. Esti- mates from a Cox Proportional-Hazards model and fixed effects logistic regressions suggest that wage amenities are not a strong determinant of relocation over time. Physician attrition and relocation are instead more saliently affected by high work volumes within the EM physician’s primary work location.
