Telemedicine has been proven to improve access to care. However, it is still not sure how a payment system can accommodate high-quality telemedicine services. This paper aims to study the available payment system to accommodate telemedicine with a focus on health services quality. We conducted a scoping review of the telemedicine payment system and telemedicine quality through the PubMed and CINAHL databases including primary research, literature reviews, and expert opinion, aside from policy documents. The number of records identified through the database was 286. In addition, 195 were screened after removing duplicates, and 28 papers were included in the review …

Since it was first implemented, the utilization of the National Health Insurance (JKN) has been increasing each year. Currently, almost all hospitals accept JKN patients. However, the JKN claim payment process did not run as conveniently as expected, and there were frequent delays in payment. This delay becomes a major obstacle in hospitals, especially public hospital, which relies heavily upon JKN patients for its cashflow. This study aims to determine the magnitude of the delay in the payment of JKN claims and what factors are involved, especially in public hospitals. This study was conducted using the scoping method review with …

Increasing Indonesia’s health and economic burdens generated by smoking habit require immediate stakeholder responses to reduce cigarette consumption. This study aims to examine and compare the changes in smoking behavior (i.e., the smoking status and the number of cigarettes consumed monthly) among zakat recipients (mustahik) and zakat payers (muzaki) caused by cigarette prices and income changes. Using a dataset from SUSENAS 2018 and conducted under kifayah approach (a poverty line approach in Islamic economics that will allow the observers to differentiate between muzaki and mustahik), this study employed two-part regression models. Results showed that an increasing income escalated cigarette consumption …

Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews

Purpose: Falls have significant financial impact. Proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy is associated with an increased risk of falls and fractures. Exercise programs have been shown to decrease risk of falls in the elderly population and are recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force for patients over age 65 to reduce falls. Our study aimed to explore the potential financial benefit of implementing three different Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-recommended exercise-based interventions for fall prevention (Tai Chi, Stepping On, and Otago Exercise Program) in ≥ 65-year-old patients on PPI therapy.

Methods: A Markov model was developed to predict …

The Intergenerational Mortality Tradeoff Of Covid-19 Lockdown Policies, Lin Ma, Gil Shapira, Damien De Walque, Quy-Toan Do, Jed Friedman, Andrei A. Levchenko

Research Collection School Of Economics

In lower-income countries, the economic contractions that accompany lockdowns to contain COVID-19 transmission can increase child mortality, counteracting the mortality reductions achieved by the lockdown. To formalize and quantify this effect, we build a macro-susceptible-infected-recovered model that features heterogeneous agents and a country-group-specific relationship between economic downturns and child mortality and calibrate it to data for 85 countries across all income levels. We find that in some low-income countries, a lockdown can produce net increases in mortality. The optimal lockdown that maximizes the present value of aggregate social welfare is shorter and milder in poorer countries than in rich ones.

The Impact Of Afghan Opium Cultivation On The U.S. Opioid Epidemic, Zachary Wahab Cheek Apr 2022

The Impact Of Afghan Opium Cultivation On The U.S. Opioid Epidemic, Zachary Wahab Cheek

UNL Student Research Days Posters, Undergraduate

I argue here that increases in Afghan opium cultivation, the most prolific in the world, has depressed American prescription opioid and heroin prices, thereby increasing abuse risk in U.S. addict populations and increasing death rates. Utilizing a two-stage regression model with a sparse dataset from several national and international sources, I find evidence that a one percent increase in Afghan opium production is associated with a 0.122 percent increase in prescription opioid overdose deaths, and a 0.367 percent increase in heroin overdose deaths. Assessing the 2001-2002 Taliban opium ban with an identification strategy, I find that in this timeframe prescription …

The Cost-Effectiveness And Feminization Of The Human Papillomavirus Vaccine, Audrey Jammes

Scripps Senior Theses

Approved in 2006, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine provided a medical breakthrough in combating cancer by inoculating first female and then male adolescents in 2010. In 2016, a new HPV vaccine was approved for all adolescents. However, it is the most expensive vaccine created in the United States and its female centered prescription led to debates regarding the vaccine’s necessity and risks. For the STS portion of this paper, analysis of the language in the vaccine’s prescriptions from 2006, 2010, and 2016 demonstrates two implicit assumptions regarding female health built into the vaccine’s rollout. Comparison of the two assumptions to …
