Spirituality has been identified in empirical literature as a developmental asset for adolescence and a protective factor for areas including mental health, life satisfaction, purpose and behavior. The influence of interpersonal relationships and Attachment theory on substance use will be discussed throughout this paper. Interpersonal functioning starts early in life and impacts how individuals interact with their environment. Interpersonal relationships and attachment styles are interacting parts when developing relationships. The research discussed within this paper serves as a framework for the development of emotional intelligence curriculum. The curriculum developed includes components of attachment theory and is designed to enhance emotional perception, understanding, awareness, and health boundaries in creating and maintaining relationships among substance-dependent clients in a group treatment setting.

Public sentiment toward sex offenders is that of hatred, contempt, and fear. These attitudes have led to the creation of sex offender legislation that is exceptionally restrictive and punitive. While best practices and current treatment models call for minimization of risk and maximization of personal fulfillment in order to reduce recidivism, sex offender laws pose as obstacles to these goals.
