Background: Most studies on the environmental impacts of agriculture have attempted to measure environmental impacts but have not assessed the ability of the sector to reduce or mitigate such impacts. Only a few studies have examined greenhouse gas emissions from the sector. This paper assesses the ability of states in the U.S. to reduce agricultural emissions of methane and nitrous oxide, two major greenhouse gases (GHGs) with important global warming potential.

Sustainable agricultural practices are the best solution to resolve widespread degradation of agricultural land in Indonesia. However, application of this practices in Indonesia are still very limited. Many empirical studies show that private agricultural land is an incentive that encourages farmers to apply sustainable agricultural practices. This research aimed to analyze relationship between agricultural land ownership and adoption of sustainable agriculture practices. The main data source used is 2017 Food Crop Cost Structure Survey. OLS and 2SLS methods are applied to estimate impact of agricultural land ownership. Regression results indicate that private land motivates farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.

Poverty is multidimensional and has a close relationship with food insecurity. By using the Alkire-Foster MPI with four dimensions (monetary, health, education, basic infrastructure), it was found that the monetary dimension has a role and contributes to multidimensional poverty although it’s not the main factor. The causes of poverty are obtained from other dominant dimensions. Meanwhile, the portrait of household food security in North Kalimantan Province in aggregate has been classified into food security category. It is concluded that poverty affects food security. This study proves that multidimensional poor households are very likely to become food insecurity households.

Using a discrete choice experiment, our study investigates consumer preferences for different levels of pesticide use in organic, integrated pest management, and Conventional production methods. An online survey of fresh tomato purchases was conducted in Missouri in the fall of 2021. Fresh tomatoes were selected because tomatoes grown using various production methods are currently being sold at farm stands, farmers' markets, supermarkets, natural stores, or even online in Missouri. Crosses between Drosophila simulans females and Drosophila melanogaster males produce viable F1 sons and poorly viable F1 daughters. Unlike most hybrid incompatibilities, this hybrid incompatibility violates Haldane’s rule, the observation that incompatibilities preferentially affect the heterogametic sex. Furthermore, it has a different genetic basis than hybrid lethality in the reciprocal cross, with the causal allele in Drosophila melanogaster being a large species-specific block of complex satellite DNA on its X chromosome known as the 359-bp satellite, rather than a protein-coding locus. The Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act prohibit banks from discriminating based on race, gender, national origin, and other protected categories. Are these laws enough to mitigate the multigenerational impacts of discrimination experienced by these communities? To address this question, this project examined whether unequal access to credit persists in communities on or adjacent to Indian reservations, communities with high levels of racial diversity, and communities where women are a greater percentage of the population than men.

Rural Nebraskans are less positive about the current change and expected future change in their communities this year. The proportion believing their community has changed for the better has typically been greater than the proportion believing it has changed for the worse. However, last year the proportion believing their community changed for the worse was slightly more than the proportion believing it had changed for the better (similar to what occurred in 2003 and 2009). This year, that gap widened a bit.

This year, rural Nebraskans are more pessimistic about their current situation than they’ve been in the past nine years. The proportion believing they are worse off than they were five years ago was 21 percent, up from the 11 percent reported last year. This is the highest level since 2013, when 26 percent believed they were worse off. This increase in pessimism did not translate into a decrease in optimism, however. This year, one-half of rural Nebraskans believe they are better off compared to five years ago, similar to 52 percent last year. The corresponding change occurred in a decrease …

This study develops novel multi-stage game-theoretic models of heterogeneous firms and consumers in vertically differentiated food product markets with asymmetric information to analyze the economic causes and market and welfare consequences of excess information/ fake transparency in food labeling. Injuries inflicted by spray applications of dicamba herbicides on neighboring properties have raised questions about the validity of the dicamba registrations and the adequacy of protection accorded others. An evaluation of the documentation used by the Environmental Protection Agency in approving the 2020 dicamba registrations discloses a lack of evidence supporting issuance of the registrations. In the lawsuit challenging the 2020 registra- tions, the court may decide they need to be vacated. This paper examines the potential impact of an India-U.S. FTA on India’s trade. We use two approaches to estimate trade effects, compound annual growth analysis and Gravity model estimation. Our sample spans the period from 1992 to 2019 and consists of seven bilateral trade agreements and three multilateral trade agreements which include 24 countries as our treatment group. In both cases we compare the impact on India’s trade following a trade agreement with a control group which we create by including those countries whose trade share exceeds one percent of India’s total trade (in 2019).
