Agricultural carbon credits can be a potentially win-win mechanism by providing extra income for farmers while helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This dissertation comprises three distinct but interrelated projects that explore the intersection of agriculture, nutrition, and economics. The first project investigates the impact of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) food programs on the health outcomes of its participants. Using fixed effects models and a matching algorithm, the study finds that while conventional fixed effects models indicate a significant effect of CSA participation on diet-related medical expenditures, our modified time-heterogenous fixed effects model did not find a meaningful effect. The results of the matching method are consistent with those of our modified model.

In the 18^th and 19^th centuries, the enclosure of common systems shaped the displacement of people on a global scale whilst bringing the people---Scottish Highland crofters and Mi’kmaq First Nation Canadians from the margins where they have dwelled for centuries in historical scholarship to of the centre of not just their history, but our collective history. Both populations experienced attacks on their ties to their lands, resources, and culture through enclosure. The study aimed to analyze women's households' farming practices towards household food security, particularly in six villages of the Ayeyarwady region. Data were collected from 126 randomized respondents. Findings show that the respondents are respondents who had a mean age of 45 years, married, natives of the study sites, and have attended primary education with an average of four family members. The government is the primary agency that provides training programs, mostly in rice production. Accurate identification of fishes is essential for understanding their biology and to ensure food safety for consumers. DNA barcoding is an important tool because it can verify identifications of both whole and processed fishes that have had key morphological characters removed (e.g., filets, fish meal); however, DNA reference libraries are incomplete, and public repositories for sequence data contain incorrectly identified sequences. The study assessed the role of Telecentres in the dissemination of agro-based information among selected farmers in rural areas of Tanzania. A cross-sectional study design was conducted in Moshi Rural District, in Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. A total of 442 rural farmers aged 21-60 years were randomly selected as study respondents. Questionnaires were used to collect data from respondents. The study found that 205 (55%) respondents were not aware of the existence and services offered among Telecentres, whereas only 12 (7%) respondents reported visiting Telecentres once per day, and 70 (41%) once per year. งานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาผลกระทบจากปัจจัยทางประชากรและการนำเทคโนโลยีไปใช้ที่มีผลต่อรายได้และผลิตภาพของครัวเรือนเกษตรกรไทย โดยรวบรวมข้อมูลทุติยภูมิมาจาก 2 แหล่ง ประกอบด้วย ส่วนที่หนึ่ง ข้อมูลของครัวเรือนที่อยู่ในการสำรวจภาวะเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของสำนักงานสถิติแห่งชาติในปี 2564 และส่วนที่สอง ข้อมูลครัวเรือนเกษตรกรที่ขึ้นทะเบียนกับกรมส่งเสริมการเกษตรในปี 2564 โดยเป็นครัวเรือนเกษตรที่ปลูกข้าวและครัวเรือนเกษตรที่ปลูกอ้อย โดยวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยสมการถดถอยพหุคูณแบบเส้นตรง (Multiple Linear Regression Analysis: MLR) ผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลในส่วนที่หนึ่ง ซึ่งมีตัวแปรอิสระประกอบด้วย ปัจจัยทางประชากรของหัวหน้าครัวเรือน ปัจจัยลักษณะของครัวเรือน และปัจจัยด้านเศรษฐกิจของครัวเรือน โดยมีตัวแปรตามคือ รายได้ต่อไร่ของครัวเรือนเกษตร สำหรับการปลูกข้าว พบว่า ครัวเรือนที่มีหัวหน้าเป็นชายมีรายได้สูงกว่าเมื่อเทียบกับครัวเรือนที่มีหัวหน้าเป็นหญิง เนื่องจากการทำนายังเป็นอาชีพที่ต้องอาศัยแรงงานและความแข็งแรง ในด้านอายุ หัวหน้าครัวเรือนในกลุ่มอายุ 60 ปีขึ้นไปสามารถสร้างรายได้ต่อไร่สูงกว่าเมื่อเทียบกับหัวหน้าครัวเรือนที่มีอายุ 20-45 ปี ซึ่งสะท้อนถึงทักษะและประสบการณ์ในการปลูกข้าวที่สะสมเพิ่มตามอายุ เมื่อพิจารณาภูมิภาคที่ตั้งของครัวเรือนพบว่า ครัวเรือนที่ปลูกข้าวในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือที่มีการทำนาปีเป็นหลักจะมีรายได้ต่อพื้นที่ที่ต่ำว่าเมื่อเทียบกับครัวเรือนในภูมิภาคอื่นที่มีการทำนาปรังด้วย นอกจากนี้การเพาะปลูกบนพื้นที่เช่าจะมีรายได้ต่อไร่ที่สูงกว่าเมื่อเทียบกับการเพาะปลูกบนพื้นที่ของตนเอง ซึ่งอาจเกิดจากการแสวงหาพื้นที่เช่าที่มีความอุดมสมบูรณ์ ใกล้แหล่งน้ำ รวมถึงมีการปลูกข้าวแบบนาปรังร่วมด้วย สำหรับการปลูกอ้อย พบว่า หัวหน้าครัวเรือนที่เป็นหญิงสามารถสร้างรายได้สูงกว่าหัวหน้าครัวเรือนที่เป็นชาย อธิบายได้จากการมีการบริหารจัดการที่ดีตั้งแต่การวางแผนเพาะปลูกจนถึงการตัดอ้อยเพื่อส่งโรงงาน นอกจากนี้ ครัวเรือนที่ปลูกอ้อยบนพื้นที่เช่าก็จะมีรายได้ต่อไร่ที่สูงกว่าเมื่อเทียบกับครัวเรือนที่ปลูกอ้อยบนพื้นที่ของตนเอง เช่นเดียวกันกับการปลูกข้าว ผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลในส่วนที่สอง ซึ่งมีตัวแปรอิสระประกอบด้วย ปัจจัยทางประชากรของหัวหน้าครัวเรือน และปัจจัยสนับสนุนการเพิ่มผลิตภาพ โดยมีตัวแปรตามคือ ผลิตภาพต่อไร่ของครัวเรือนเกษตรกร สำหรับการปลูกข้าว พบว่า ครัวเรือนที่มีหัวหน้าครัวเรือนเพศชายมีผลิตภาพสูงกว่าเมื่อเทียบกับครัวเรือนที่มีหัวหน้าเป็นหญิง ในด้านอายุ หัวหน้าครัวเรือนในกลุ่มอายุ 60 ปีขึ้นไปมีความสามารถสร้างผลิตภาพต่อไร่ได้สูงกว่าเมื่อเทียบกับหัวหน้าครัวเรือนช่วงอายุ 20-45 ปีและช่วงอายุ 46-59 ปี ซึ่งเห็นว่ากลุ่มอายุ 60 ปีขึ้นไปมีประทักษะและประสบการณ์ในการทำนามาหลายฤดู ทำให้สามารถมีความชำนาญในการวางแผนจัดการเกี่ยวกับผลผลิตที่ได้มาไม่เสียหาย ส่งผลให้ได้ผลิตภาพต่อไร่ดีกว่า ถึงแม้ว่าหัวหน้าครัวเรือนมีระดับการศึกษาเพียงระดับประถมศึกษา แต่สามารถจัดการผลผลิตให้ได้ดีกว่าระดับการศึกษาสูงกว่า แสดงว่าการศึกษาไม่ได้มีผลเกี่ยวกับการเพิ่มผลผลิต แต่เป็นประสบการณ์จากการเพาะปลูกข้าว หัวหน้าครัวเรือนใช้พื้นที่ทำการเพาะปลูกข้าวในการสร้างรายได้โดยเช่าที่ดินและที่ดินสาธารณประโยชน์ ใช้แหล่งน้ำนอกเขตชลประทานในการเพิ่มผลิตภาพ ซึ่งพื้นที่เกษตรในการเพาะปลูกข้าวใกล้แหล่งน้ำ การใช้เครื่องจักรกลทางการเกษตรในการสร้างผลิตภาพข้าวนั้น ทั้ง 8 กลุ่มเครื่องจักรมีอิทธิพลทั้งหมด สำหรับการปลูกอ้อย พบกว่า หัวหน้าครัวเรือนเพศหญิงสามารถสร้างผลิตภาพได้สูงกว่าหัวหน้าครัวเรือนเพศชาย อธิบายได้จากหัวหน้าครัวเรือนเพศหญิงมีความใส่ใจ และการปรับตัวกับการพัฒนาสิ่งใหม่ ๆ ดีกว่าหัวหน้าครัวเรือนเพศชาย ในกลุ่มอายุ 60 ปีมีความสามารถในการสร้างผลิตภาพได้ดีกว่า นั้นคือการใช้ประสบการณ์ในการเกษตรที่ยาวนาน และยังพบว่าเขตพื้นที่เพาะปลูกตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือสามารถสร้างผลิตภาพได้ดีกว่า นั้นหมายถึงเขตที่เพาะปลูกมีสภาพพื้นที่เกี่ยวกับน้ำและดินที่เอื้ออำนวยต่อการผลิต จึงช่วยส่งเสริมในการสร้างผลิตภาพที่ดีต่อการเพาะปลูกอ้อย การใช้เครื่องจักรกลทางการเกษตรในการสร้างผลิตภาพอ้อยนั้น มีเพียง 5กลุ่มเครื่องจักรมีอิทธิพล ได้แก่ …

Air pollution impacts economic activity, and economic activity creates air pollution. Understanding this endogenous nexus is critical as any policy designed to affect one will inevitably affect the other. My research explores both sides of this nexus. Specifically, I identify the economic effects from the implementation of an international climate agreement (the Kyoto Protocol); I determine the impact of air pollution on physical productivity and determine which pollutants are responsible for this effect; and I link urban form to vehicular emissions via the structure of road networks.

The nonlinear relationship of pollution emissions with economic growth alongside energy consumption variables was examined to test the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis using a panel sample comprising 34 Asian economies from 2001 to 2013. Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag models in the forms of Pooled Mean Group and Mean Group models were estimated and tested against one another using the Hausman test. For robustness checks, the same econometric techniques were applied to disaggregated panel groups based on income classifications. The study reveals that, while the EKC hypothesis holds in Asia, the findings were not robust across the disaggregated panel groups. …

This paper looked into the preferences of 151 coffee farmers for the attributes of selected coffee technologies. The study was done to help guide technology developers in crafting post harvest processing facilities for coffee which their target market will need which can lead to a higher probability of commercialization of new coffee technologies. The study examined the preferences for attributes for coffee dryers, moisture meters, coffee depulpers, and coffee sorters using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) framework. Halal has gained popularity as a result of consumer concerns about food safety and ethical issues. Chevon is an important source of protein. However, no halal chevon products are commercially produced. Hence, the study aimed to develop positioning strategies to commercialize the products. A survey was undertaken of 400 potential consumers in the Philippines. The majority of the respondents were willing to buy halal food products. Four wireless sensor network (WSN) technology packages developed for efficient irrigation water management in the Philippines were subjected to ex-ante cost-benefit analysis (CBA) to assess their financial viability. The WSN technologies include high-end and low-cost wireless sensors for upland crop production with drip irrigation system and lowland crop production with alternate wetting and drying (AWD). Results showed that the high-end WSN technology packages are only viable for high-value crops such as red onion, bell pepper, and hot pepper.
