The Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Oceanographic Campus Library has always had a unique challenge in that it is the final clearing house for student capstone, thesis, and dissertation binding and publication. The library has traditionally been the host of the final print publication and the liaison between the student, the program office, and the bindery. With the launch of NSUWorks, NSU’s institutional repository, 6 years ago, the library envisioned developing an innovative and effective start to finish workflow for student Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) and worked to change the physical life cycle of NSU’s theses and dissertations into a …

Arkansas Education Reports
The mission of the Office for Education Policy is to examine educational issues through the lens of academic research and disseminate our findings to educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders around Arkansas. Annually, we highlight excellent schools around the state in our Outstanding Educational Performance Awards, or the OEP awards.
This edition of the OEP Awards highlights schools in Arkansas based on student growth on the ACT Aspire exams in Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA). This is a departure from prior awards, which were based on student proficiency.

Living...In Fear, Anonymous
Living...In Fear, Anonymous
SURGE
“What do you fear?”
“What is your weakness?”
Every time I get asked these questions, whether it’s by interviewers or friends, I dread every moment of it.
How can I possibly put into words the fear I live with every single day of my life?
How can I put into words the pain I feel inside of me to help you understand?
My parents have raised me to be the strong independent woman that I am.
They have taught me to discipline myself and always work 10x harder than everyone else.
They have warned me from a very early age …

After years of sharing personal data without much thought about how it might be used or abused, the public is now becoming more aware of the need for clearer responsibilities and rights related to the collection, processing, and dissemination of personal information. “Data has always been important to society,” Smith …

Use Of Hyperspectral Remote Sensing To Estimate Water Quality, Mbongowo J. Mbuh
Use Of Hyperspectral Remote Sensing To Estimate Water Quality, Mbongowo J. Mbuh
Geography & Geographic Information Science Faculty Publications
Approximating and forecasting water variables like phosphorus, nitrogen, chlorophyll, dissolved organic matter, and turbidity are of supreme importance due to their strong influence on water resource quality. This chapter is aimed at showing the practicability of merging water quality observations from remote sensing with water quality modeling for efficient and effective monitoring of water quality. We examine the spatial dynamics of water quality with hyperspectral remote sensing and present approaches that can be used to estimate water quality using hyperspectral images. The methods presented here have been embraced because the bluegreen and green algae peak wavelengths reflectance are close together …

Employing An Intentional Mentoring Model For Delinquent Youth., Anne M. Hobbs
Criminology and Criminal Justice Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
Employing an Intentional Mentoring Model for Delinquent Youth Delinquent youth often do not receive the opportunity to be mentored. This is especially true for youth who have committed serious law violations and are detained. In Nebraska, the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Centers (YRTCs) are the highest level of care for delinquent youth within the state. Under Nebraska law, a youth is committed to the YRTC only after all community-based services and every level of probation supervision has been exhausted (Sec. 43-286). In 2011, the Juvenile Justice Institute (JJI) agreed to teach a course on mentoring delinquent youth and to match …

An Illustration Of Farm Program Decisions And Impacts, Bradley D. Lubben
An Illustration Of Farm Program Decisions And Impacts, Bradley D. Lubben
Cornhusker Economics
When the 2018 Farm Bill was signed last December, producers could look ahead to implementation and the coming decision between enrollment under the Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) program or the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) program. While the ARC and PLC programs carried over from the 2014 Farm Bill with relatively modest changes, the substantial drop in market prices and outlook since 2014 pointed toward a widespread shift in enrollment away from ARC and toward PLC due to the increased relevance of the price safety net.
However, with this year’s extreme weather events, concerns over crop production, and hopes for improved …

Crossmodal Communication In Perceptual Discrimination: A Behavioral Study On Visual And Tactile Modalities, Shakila Parvin Bristy
Psychology Theses and Dissertations
The present study investigated crossmodal communication in perceptual discrimination between visual and tactile modalities. Towards this end, the study was conducted on 32 children aged 7-11 years in four schools situated in the city of Dhaka. Two experiments were conducted each in two phases, "tactile to visual" and "visual to tactile" phases, following a novel behavioral approach. We assessed correctness of response and reaction time for discriminating unknown Japanese letters and geometric shapes. Data were analyzed in a series of one-sample t-tests and paired-sample t- tests, as well as in a series of one-way repeated measures ANOVAs using visual field …

The majority of these programs are used with hearing people, and there is a lack of experience in the use of these models within the deaf and hard of hearing community. This article will focus on the Twelve Step model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Model and the Bio-Psycho- Social Model (Social Program Model). A discussion and comparison with the harm reduction model will also be discussed.
Technology Applications To Enhance The Interpreter Referral Process And Address Changes In The Industry, Cindy Walsh
Technology Applications To Enhance The Interpreter Referral Process And Address Changes In The Industry, Cindy Walsh
JADARA
With the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, sign language interpreter demands have dramatically increased and non-profit agencies for the Deaf have been inundated with requests for interpreting services. Paper and pencil systems to track interpreter requests, bill for services, and pay the interpreters have quickly become ineffective for handling large volumes of interpreter requests. As Eighinger (1999) asserts, "It is…incumbent upon agencies in order to maintain a competitive advantage to invest in technology." Valley Center of the Deaf (VCD) and Community Outreach Program for the Deaf (COPD) have developed customized software to handle the needs of their interpreter …

The Solitary Mainstream Experience In Retrospect: The Adult Voice—Preliminary Findings, Gina A. Olivia
JADARA
The Solitary Mainstream project involved 60 deaf and hard of hearing adults ranging in age from 25 to 65, looking back on their K-12 years in the mainstream apart from other D/HH children. A majority of the informants spent their entire school career as "the only one," and the remainder spent at least seven years as such. Essays written in response to an initial global prompt and four specific prompts about these school years were collected and analyzed. A qualitative analysis yielded several common themes which are reported. The Solitary Mainstream Project reflects the collective retrospect of 60 adults eager …
