Warriors In Drag: Performing Gender And Remaking Men In Prisoner Of War Theater, Yücel Yanikdağ Jan 2019

Warriors In Drag: Performing Gender And Remaking Men In Prisoner Of War Theater, Yücel Yanikdağ

History Faculty Publications

This chapter examines Ottoman prison camp theaters in Egypt, from where more sources have survived. With the exception of some passing mentions in scholarship, entertainment in general, and theatre in particular in the Ottoman military is a neglected subject. Scholars of European history studying troop and prisoner of war entertainment during the two world wars have produced a noteworthy amount of material. Many have even focused specifically on soldiers’ cross-dressing or female impersonation in theater on various fronts and prisoner of war camps. Older scholarship viewed female impersonation as mere entertainment, but more recent studies have taken up gender related …

Nike's Corporate Social Advocacy (Csa) Practices As Related To Strategic Issues Management (Sim) And Threats To Organizational Legitimacy, Eve Heffron

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This research examined how corporate social advocacy (CSA) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts impacted perceptions of authenticity. Using an experimental survey, participants were randomly exposed to Nike's actions related to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement via mock-online news articles. Participants completed a survey that contained Likert-type scale items regarding attitudes (perceived corporate intent, perceived authenticity, brand trust, and brand credibility) and behavioral intentions (word of mouth intentions (WOM), and purchase intention (PI)). Results indicated that positive attitudes significantly increased when Nike implemented an action step after taking a public stance on a controversial social-political issue. Further, results revealed …

Thematic And Narratological Affinities In George Eliot’S Felix Holt And Theodor Fontane’S Frau Jenny Treibel, Monica Felix Jan 2019

Thematic And Narratological Affinities In George Eliot’S Felix Holt And Theodor Fontane’S Frau Jenny Treibel, Monica Felix

German Journal Sprache Literatur Kultur

This article investigates affinities in George Eliot’s “Felix Holt: the Radical” and Theodor Fontane’s “Frau Jenny Treibel.” Both texts present suggestive narratological and thematic affinities in how the 19th-century female identity is articulated within the socio-political framework of society novels. This analysis interrogates the boundaries of a ‘sentimental education’ to uncover deeper layers distinguishing Bildung from Herzensbildung, thereby placing greater emphasis on women’s romantic education in the public performance of identity.

“[T]here is no private life which has not been determined by a wider public life... ”

-George Eliot, Felix Holt: The Radical

“Männer männlich, Weiber weiblich.”

Aspekte Der Psychoanalyse Und Der Subjektivität In Judith Hermanns Erzählung ‘Sonja’, Martha Christine SüSs Jan 2019

Aspekte Der Psychoanalyse Und Der Subjektivität In Judith Hermanns Erzählung ‘Sonja’, Martha Christine SüSs

Measuring The Impact Of Gun Theft On City-Level Gun Crime Rates, Thomas Senst Jan 2019

Measuring The Impact Of Gun Theft On City-Level Gun Crime Rates, Thomas Senst

Master’s Theses and Projects

The history of gun culture in the United States is complicated. Guns are an integral part of American history and attempts to control them through policy are often contentious. However, research suggests that gun crime occurs in areas where there are more guns (Braga, 2017; Braga & Pierce, 2005; Cook, Harris, Ludwig, & Pollack, 2015; Kennedy, 2011; Koper, 2013; Pierce, Braga, Hyatt, & Koper, 2004). Consequently, as gun accessibility increases within cities, the likelihood of gun crime also increases. When researching gun accessibility, it is important to note how guns are accessed. Often, guns are accessible in three ways: (1) …

The Role Of Money Market Mutual Funds In The Shadow Banking Sector Since The 2010 & 2014 Sec Reforms, George Kiss Jan 2019

The Role Of Money Market Mutual Funds In The Shadow Banking Sector Since The 2010 & 2014 Sec Reforms, George Kiss

Theses - Graduate Programs in Economic Theory and Policy

The analysis undertaken within this thesis questions the role of money market mutual funds (MMFs) in the shadow-banking sector since the 2010 and 2014 SEC reforms. In order to conduct such an analysis we provide a comprehensive history of the rise of these funds and how they contributed to the 2007-2009 Financial Crisis. A brief explanation of the 2010 and 2014 reforms is then given and we show that neither of these regulations have made these funds safer, but have increased the risk they pose to the overall financial system. We evaluate how the maturity distribution of securities held within …

Evolution Of Us-Dollar-Centric International Money Markets And Pro-Cyclicality Of Basel Iii Liquidity Framework, Oleksandr Valchyshen

Theses - Graduate Programs in Economic Theory and Policy

This thesis presents research on the evolution of the US-dollar-centric international money markets. Next, I explore the evolution of the market leading up to and after the Great Depression, through the regulatory period of the New Deal, and functional finance of the late 1930s and greater part of the 1940s. In the postwar period, I highlight the Federal Reserve’s push for free markets, the sudden rise of the euro-dollar market in …

The Unnecessary Prescription Of Transcription: The Promise Of Audio-Coding In Interview Research, Paul Stonehouse Jan 2019

The Unnecessary Prescription Of Transcription: The Promise Of Audio-Coding In Interview Research, Paul Stonehouse

Research in Outdoor Education

Interviewing is a ubiquitous, although time-consuming, method in Outdoor Education research. Typical analysis requires a transcript of the entire recorded interview, on which a researcher creates and attaches codes to substantive sections. Qualitative software technology now allows the researcher to code directly on an audio-file (i.e. audio-coding), thus saving significant time. This article explains the differences between whole-interview transcription and audio-coding, while also comparing the strengths and weaknesses of each. The topic is examined via a detailed analysis of the available audio-coding literature and the author's own experience with Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) and audio-coding specifically. Although slow …
