Drivers Of Globalization, Ishrat Husain Dr. Feb 2011

Drivers Of Globalization, Ishrat Husain Dr.

Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse

Having listened to distinguished luminaries such as Prof Ishwar Dayal there is hardly very much I can add or contribute to the discourse initiated this morning. But as a student of economics I know that I should stick to my comparative advantage. What I therefore propose to do this afternoon is to spell out what I consider are the main Drivers of Globalization. I would then argue that unless we understand those Drivers of Globalization we cannot have a picture of what the firms or business - individually and collectively - are going to look like in the future.

This study examined how mother and father–child relationship quality and marital forgiveness were related to early adolescents’ forgiveness of mothers and fathers. Adolescents’ social-cognitive skills (empathy and emotional regulation) and parents’ forgiveness of child were examined as mediators. Mother, father, and child self-reported questionnaires and observational data were taken from Time 1 and Time 3 (two years later) of the Flourishing Families Project, and included 334 two-parent families with an early adolescent (M age at Time 1 = 11.24; 51% male; 76% Caucasian). Using path analyses via structure equation modeling, mother–child relationship quality and adolescents’ own social-cognitive skills were …

Acid-Free Paper, Unprocessed Collections, And Some French Farmers, Sierra R. Green

Blogging the Library

Hello everyone! This week as the Special Collections Fortenbaugh Intern I have been ushered from the figurative world of Archival processing methods and principles into the world of acid free paper and unprocessed collections! After having finished reading through the manual I discussed in my last post, Karen (Director of Special Collections) walked me through the unprocessed collections within the college's possession. After having told me a number of quirky stories attached to many of these collections, Karen gave me some time to explore the unprocessed material and see which collection most catches my eye. The Symbolic Power Of Color: Constructions Of Race, Skin-Color, And Identity In Brazil, Marcia Mikulak Feb 2011

The Symbolic Power Of Color: Constructions Of Race, Skin-Color, And Identity In Brazil, Marcia Mikulak

Anthropology Faculty Publications

Some current cultural anthropologists define race as a social construct, yet explorations of the socio-historical constructions that give form and structure to racial identities perpetuating notions of “race” are rarely discussed. This study explores the theory of racial formations proposed by Michael Omi and Howard Winant as it applies to Brazil’s racial project, arguing that Brazil’s rhetoric on race and national identity during the late 19th to early 20th century culminated in a racial project ultimately known as democracia racial. As a result, I propose that Brazilian racial consciousness is symbolically pluralistic, encompassing race, social class, and social position, generating …
