Investigating The Correlation Between Burnout And Spirituality Among Resident Assitants At Liberty University, Dorel Captari

Senior Honors Theses

The concept of employment burnout represents an important point of interest among researchers who examine the relationship between individuals and their work environment. The present study investigated the nature of burnout among Resident Assistants (RA) at a midsize evangelical university and its correlation to spirituality. The scores obtained from 126 participants on the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and the Spiritual Assessment Inventory (SAI) were analyzed according to the multiple regression method. The results demonstrated that two of the six variables from SAI, namely Awareness and Instability, had the highest predictive value of burnout among RAs. Because the predictive values of …

Developing A Baccalaureate Digital Forensics Major, John H. Riley May 2010

Developing A Baccalaureate Digital Forensics Major, John H. Riley

Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law

As colleges and universities consider instituting a bachelor’s degree in digital forensics or computer forensics, there are numerous questions to be addressed. While some of these normally occur in the development of any new major, there are aspects of digital forensics which do not often (if ever) occur in other majors. We discuss the issues that should be resolved in the development of a baccalaureate degree program in digital forensics.

Keywords: Digital forensics major. Computer forensics major.

Fostering Food Market Development In Zambia, Gelson Tembo, Antony Chapoto, Thomas Jayne, Michael Weber

Zambia Social Science Journal

This article assesses major features of the Zambian agricultural market that have led to the underdevelopment of the staple food marketing system, reviews existing empirical evidence explaining the variable performance of the maize sub-sector, and suggests potential corrective measures. As smallholder farmers in agricultural markets are considered to be vitally important to the attainment of food security, special attention is placed on how the current system affects these farmers, and on how to foster improved participation. The role and potential of new generation cooperatives is also considered. We identify seven major areas in need of serious and coordinated attention if the …

Long-Run Wage And Earnings Losses Of Displaced Workers, Roger White May 2010

Long-Run Wage And Earnings Losses Of Displaced Workers, Roger White

Economics

Displacement-related losses are estimated using National Longitudinal Survey of Youth data that span the years 1979–2000. The typical displaced worker faces losses of $34,065 during the period 4 years prior through 5 years following displacement. Proportionally, this represents a 10.8% loss compared to earnings of similar nondisplaced workers over the period. Considerable variation in losses is reported across worker types. Union, male and more mature workers suffer greater losses, respectively, than do their nonunion, female and younger counterparts. College graduates and high school dropouts are found to suffer lower losses compared to high school diploma holders and those who completed …

Assessing The Efficacy Of Modis Satellite-Derived Start Of Growing Season For Jurisdictional Determination Of East Texas Bottomland Hardwood Wetlands, Karen Malone, Hans Michael Williams, I-Kuai Hung, Daniel Unger May 2010

Assessing The Efficacy Of Modis Satellite-Derived Start Of Growing Season For Jurisdictional Determination Of East Texas Bottomland Hardwood Wetlands, Karen Malone, Hans Michael Williams, I-Kuai Hung, Daniel Unger

Faculty Publications

Introduction: Crucial to the determination of a jurisdictional wetland is the definition of “growing season”. Satellite imagery is being utilized in other ecological applications, but is lagging in wetland growing season determination. Both cost and temporal limitations historically have restrained use of satellite imagery in assessing the start up of the growing season. Multiple commercial satellites are available that provide high resolution imagery, but the cost are prohibitive for most studies. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) jointly manage the Landsat and the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite programs. Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper …

In this white paper, we examine a sample of the opinions of Idahoans, as expressed in the Public Policy Survey, on the subject of immigration.

In the 18th and 19th Annual Idaho Public Policy Surveys, the survey sample was asked to respond to a number of questions concerning immigration in Idaho. Questions on the survey ranged from economic impacts to the quality of education to indigent medical care. Of the many benefits that the data offers, …

Singhealth Ceo Says Leadership Is About Compassion And The 'Cha Cha Cha', Knowledge@Smu

Knowledge@SMU

That a leader ought to choose compassion over profits is a position unlikely to be popular with shareholders. However, that may well be the only kind of leadership that will command a following – because people gravitate towards ethical leadership. Leaders can attempt to inspire with a show of record profits and shareholder value. Yet, such successes can still seem somewhat empty. According to Prof. Tan Ser Kiat, Group CEO of SingHealth, Singapore's largest healthcare group, leaders that possess and display compassion inspire at a different level. They tap right into the heart.

Perceived Racial Expectations Of Children, Jessica Roessleain May 2010

Perceived Racial Expectations Of Children, Jessica Roessleain

Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal

This is a proposed research study concerning the presence of prejudice among children, especially concerning ambiguous everyday situations. Racism can be a source of chronic stress, mental health issues, and physical health issues for those involved, and everyday acts of prejudice can be even more harmful that overt acts of racism. These acts can cause health problems as serious as cardiovascular disease. Therefore this study aims to identify racial preferences among children, in the form of everyday ambiguous situations by having them identify what is occurring in a picture involving ambiguous interactions between white and black children on a playground. …

The Prevalence Of Technology, Greg Townsend

Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal

The current study at hand administered a survey to determine the prevalence of technology and Internet usage in undergraduate college students. The results of a survey administered to 66 participants revealed that just about two-thirds of the students may have or had an excessive problem, which could be related to several aspects such as age, gender, class status, country of origin, and so on. The results did allow the research to support the hypothesis that stated if someone in college were given a technology and Internet addiction survey, then he/she would report that he/she is in fact addicted to the …

Derivation Of Mass Independent Quantum Treatment Of Phenomenon, David Parker May 2010

Derivation Of Mass Independent Quantum Treatment Of Phenomenon, David Parker

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The derivation and applications is presented of a spatial variable or spatial radius which is related to the inertia or mass-energy of any quantum body by a Lorentz invariant relation. Mass independent DeBroglie and Schroedinger equations are derived and applied to the resolution of the linguistic incompatibility between quantum theory and the geometrical weak equivalence principle. The equivalence principle is restated in terms of the spatial radius. The gravitational attraction between bodies and the relativistic energy are both presented in terms of the spatial radius follows. The ratio of the gravitational force to the Coulomb force at the Planck scale …

Ranked Set Sampling Using Auxiliary Variables Of A Randomized Response Procedure For Estimating The Mean Of A Sensitive Quantitative Character, Carlos N. Bouza

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The analysis of the behavior of estimators of the mean of a sensitive variable is considered when a randomized response procedure is used. The results deal with the inference based on simple random sampling with replacement study design. A study of the behavior of the procedures for a ranked set sampling design is developed. A gain in accuracy is generally associated with the proposed alternative model.

An Equivalence Test Based On N And P, Markus Neuhäeuser May 2010

An Equivalence Test Based On N And P, Markus Neuhäeuser

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

An equivalence test is proposed which is based on the P-value of a test for a difference and the sample size. This test may be especially appropriate for an exploratory re-analysis if only a non-significant test for a difference was reported. Thus, neither a confidence interval is available, nor is there access to the raw data. The test is illustrated using two examples; for both applications the smallest equivalence range for which equivalence could be demonstrated is calculated.
