This paper examines the role of Nigerian private university libraries in supporting research. The case study approach was used for the study and a questionnaire was used to collect data from 120 respondents. Data were analyzed using percentage and graphical analysis. The major findings are that: research impacts positively on community development, research output impacts the recognition and ranking of universities, the library impacts positively on research, and library ICT impacts on the quality of research. Although librarians have traditionally defended intellectual freedom, the American Library Association (ALA) tends to treat it as a local management issue. As librarianship has become increasingly technical defense of intellectual freedom has diminished. Censorship generates self-censorship and demonstrates a subservient relation to authority detrimental to collection development. Using instances from his professional life, the author argues that censorship infantilizes patrons, discourages critical thinking, and is counterproductive to institutions of higher learning.

Long before the emergence of the World Wide Web, librarians had a long tradition of collecting and classifying physical materials. Influenced by these activities, information literacy instruction has defined and taught sources as objects of similar content and/or format. Because of their ability to organize information for easy retrieval, such definitions are helpful from a practical standpoint. Unfortunately, they do little to account for a source's role as a communicative act shared within and between communities. To expand our definition we must look to Genre Theory. Supervision Of Special Collections In Federal And State University Libraries In Nigeria, R.I. Echezona

This study assessed the supervisory styles in special collections in federal and state university libraries in Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted with purposive sampling to obtain a sample of 178 librarians and library officers in 12 federal and state university libraries in Nigeria. A questionnaire was used in the collection of data. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The findings showed that approaches to supervision include routine checks of subordinates, periodic evaluation of stock, regular meeting with staff, reprimanding of erring staff, and a liberal supervisory style.

The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center summer day camp is an eight-week program for Kindergarten through 6th Grade youth that is partially funded through a grant provided by the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties (LCDSC). The Kroc Center contracted with the Consortium for Organizational Research and Evaluation (CORE) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha to conduct an external evaluation of the program.

In July, the ADE released results for the 2009-10 end-ofcourse (EOC) exams given in Algebra I, Geometry, and Biology administered in April 2010. These results followed the Grade 11 Literacy results released in June. First, we present statewide 2010 results compared to last year. Second, test scores are examined across the state by districts' region, poverty level, and size. Third, we consider the performance of Arkansas students on other assessments to see if these results are consistent with EOC results.

This paper contrasts dual-process and personality approaches in the prediction of addictive behaviors and related risk behaviors. In dual-process models, behavior is described as the joint outcome of qualitatively different “impulsive” (or associative) and “reflective” processes. There are important individual differences regarding both types of processes, and the relative strength of both in a specific situation is influenced by prior behavior and state variables (e.g., fatigue, alcohol use). From this perspective, a specific behavior (e.g., alcohol misuse) can be predicted by the combined indices of the behavior-related impulsive processes (e.g., associations with alcohol), and reflective processes, including the ability to …

The effectiveness of the Forest Futures Visioning Process, a collaborative process sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to develop policy recommendations for the future stewardship of Massachusetts forests, is evaluated. The evaluation, based upon a logic model used to assess collaborative environmental governance projects, generally found that goals were met.

• The number of records in the volunteer database increased by 0.05% over the last quarter. The database now contains 7,669 records.
• Results show an average of 1,060 visits per month, and with an average of 2,597 pages viewed per month.
• Five National Public Lands Day events have been completed.
• The Interagency Volunteer Standard Operations Manual has been updated and revised.
• Get Outdoors Nevada supported six volunteer events in a variety of ways. These events utilized 630 volunteers whom contributed 3,686 hours of service.
• Preparations for the volunteer recognition banquet continued.

Cultural Site Stewardship Program

The Cultural Site Stewardship Program is working with the Desert Wildlife Refuge (DWR) in accordance with a request by the Archaeologist for USFWS.

Several classes were offered to stewards, including map and compass orientation, site photography and lithics instructions.

Twenty-three newly trained stewards along with 12 existing stewards were assigned to the Desert Wildlife Research area, and will be introduced to sites during early fall. The Abandoned Mines Lands project operated by the National Park Service will continue with new objectives this fall.

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Economic viability of the US corn ethanol industry depends on prices, technical and economic efficiency of plants and on continuation of policy support. Public policy support is tied to the environmental efficiency of plants measured as their impact on emissions of greenhouse gases. This study evaluates the environmental efficiency of seven recently constructed ethanol plants in the North Central region of the U.S., using nonparametric data envelopment analysis (DEA). The minimum level of GHG emissions (per gallon of ethanol produced) feasible with the available technology is calculated for each plant and this level is used to decompose environmental efficiency into …
