This research first examines social media and social networks as a social phenomenon and its influence on marketing practice. Survey data and an extensive literature review reveal that not only have social networks evolved rapidly during the last few years, but so have social media, consumer behaviors, and subsequently, social media marketing tactics, which are increasingly being integrated into marketing programs. The authors explore the question of whether more time should be devoted to these topics and whether they should be incorporated into the marketing curriculum. Relationships Between Binge Eating, Psychological And Behavioral Covariates, And Health Care Utilization On College Campuses: Results From A National Sample Of College Students, Summar Reslan

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the factors which moderate service utilization among college students, as well as risk factors for binge eating disorder (BED). Candidate moderators included binge eating, obesity, gender, ethnicity, psychological comorbidity, body image, and emotional dysregulation. Data from the Healthy Minds Study (HMS) 2010 were utilized. Two samples of participants were analyzed: the full HMS 2010 national sample of undergraduate college students (N = 17,995) and a subsample of undergraduate students (N = 969) from Eastern Michigan University (EMU) who participated in the HMS. Results suggested that psychological comorbidity significantly impacted psychological service utilization …

Vanity Sizing, Body Image, And Purchase Behavior: A Closer Look At The Effects Of Inaccurate Garment Labeling, Nicole Lynn Weidner

The purpose of this study was to investigate satisfaction of current ready-to-wear garment sizing and fit, consumer knowledge of vanity sizing, and how these variables affect body image and/or purchase behavior at retail. Survey Monkey distributed the questionnaire to 485 registered female students attending a Midwestern regional state university. Seventyeight participants began the survey, with 63 students completing the entire questionnaire. Results indicated that consumers are mostly satisfied with garment sizing and fit. They are aware of vanity sizing usage within the apparel industry; however, this does not affect their purchase behavior at retail. Since consumers are aware vanity sizing …

Psychometric And Experimental Investigation Of Impulsivity, Rumination, Revenge, And Forgiveness, Jason David Young

Revenge and forgiveness are commonplace aspects of social interaction. Past research has emphasized that rumination is an important cognitive correlate of both revenge and forgiveness. In the present research, we examined whether revenge attitudes and motivations, as well as forgiveness attitudes and tendencies might also be predicted by impulsivity. Two studies were conducted to investigate these possibilities. In Study 1 participants (N = 200) completed individual differences measures of impulsivity, rumination, procedural and distributive just world beliefs, and measures of revenge, forgiveness and avoidance. Structural equation modeling revealed that rumination predicted forgiveness tendencies, revenge motivations and avoidance. Additionally, revenge attitudes …

Purpose: Cochlear implantation has recently become available as an intervention strategy for young children with profound hearing impairment. In fact, infants as young as 6 months are now receiving cochlear implants (CIs), and even younger infants are being fitted with hearing aids (HAs). Because early audiovisual experience may be important for normal development of speech perception, it is important to investigate the effects of a period of auditory deprivation and amplification type on multimodal perceptual processes of infants and children. The purpose of this study was to develop and assess the relative effectiveness of two novel alternatives to standard written emotional disclosure for coping with stressful traumatic experiences. In addition to standard emotional disclosure and time management writing control conditions, two guided feedback conditions were created with a goal of enhancing the disclosure paradigm by eliciting the most effective components of disclosure writing. All of the writing conditions in the study utilized the internet for both completion of the writing and receipt of feedback in the indicated conditions. Social support is a dyadic exchange process that yields many psychological and physiological health benefits. The goal of this study was to examine the effects of the support exchange process from a dyadic perspective on health outcomes and to investigate the extent that gender and relationship characteristics influence the support process and health outcomes. It was hypothesized that female patients would report seeking more support and male patients would report receiving more support. This project looks at the Abu Ghraib Prisoner Abuse Scandal and the ways those figured in the notorious images were named as "bad apples" to explain the shocking scenes to a mainstream American collective as well as expands more traditional understandings of witnessing through the examination of this complex moment. Beyond the narrowly legal and political issues, the photographs from Abu Ghraib also raise questions about how images of atrocities are received, interpreted, and contested with this project rephrasing the question "what do we see when we look at the images from Abu Ghraib?" to that of "what did we …

A convenience snowball sample of 228 mental health practitioners were surveyed and administered two vignettes of persons with mental illness and a 12-question survey that included occupational background and attitudinal questions about diagnosing mental illness. The gender and race of the patients were randomly altered, while the symptoms and characteristics of mental illness remained constant for each vignette. Each practitioner assigned a DSM-IV diagnostic label for axis I and axis II on both vignettes. The surveys were coded …
