This study will examine the evolution of the field of venture philanthropy since the late 1990s and will provide an updated guide to the types of organizations utilizing venture philanthropy strategies across the United States and internationally. The purpose of this research is to investigate how the field has changed as it has matured, to identify the key players and learnings of organizations across the field, and to develop a framework for the types of organizations that have been the most successful in implementing the venture philanthropy model.

Background: The Service-Learning and Research Scheme (SLRS) is the showcase of Lingnan’s Service-Learning model, which is the manifestation of Lingnan University’s Liberal Arts education and mission “Education for Service”. The scheme was a pilot project, from 2004 to 2005, which led to the development of a Universitywide protocol for Service-Learning at Lingnan University.

Members of minority groups have higher rates of disease, poorer health, and more limited access to care than their white counterparts. They account for half of the uninsured population and 58% of the low-income uninsured population. Even when they have coverage, minority patients are at risk for receiving lower-quality medical and surgical care than white patients. The factors underlying these inequities are complex and go far beyond the health care system,but any meaningful reform must, at a minimum, confront disparities in care. The materials in the Jordan Park Collection nearly were discarded; the good fortune of the preservation of these items is considerable. Poynter Library received the various photographs, property records, maps, documents, and scrapbooks from Dayton Stone on 18 June 2009. Stone had discovered these items while cleaning out an abandoned property in St. Petersburg. Subsequent review of the materials revealed the necessity of some conservation work and arrangement due to the condition in which these items had existed prior to his fortunate discovery. These records fill an important gap in our history. The initial Jordan Park residential units were constructed …

It states that a person's ability to say "no" to taking a new project at work or another appointment affects the mental wellness and healthy work or life balance. William Ury, author of the book "The Power of a Positive No" argues that positive "no" affirms an individual's values and sends clear communication with others. It also provides various experiences of the other workers of how they approach in saying "no."

While the concept of living standards remains central to political debate, it has become marginal in sociological research compared to the burgeoning attention given to the topic of consumer culture in recent decades. However, they both concern how one does and should consume, and, indeed, behave at particular times. I use the theories of Norbert Elias to explain the unplanned but structured (ordered) changes in expected standards of living over time. This figurational approach is compared to other alternative explanations, particularly those advanced by Bourdieu, Veblen and Baudrillard. Though these offer some parallels with Elias’s theories, I argue that consumption …

Regional Variation In Perceptions About Climate Change., Lawrence C. Hamilton, Barry D. Keim

Sociology

A 2007 survey covering rural areas in nine US states provides data on perceived local impacts of climate change. Perceptions vary from region to region, with a pattern suggesting links to real climate specifically to winter warming in snow country. A multivariate analysis using mixed-effects ordered logit regression confirms a significant perception-temperature relationship, net of individual background and ideological characteristics, and of regional variations. These findings invite more detailed research.

The City of Southlake conducts a Citizen Survey every two years. The purpose of the survey is to measure resident’s satisfaction levels in the community and opinions on city services and policy issues. Since 2005, Southlake began incorporating their strategic plan into the survey to attempt to measure their success with meeting the goals of their strategies. This project was undertaken in an effort to ensure alignment of the survey questions with the strategy map, to analyze survey administration tools and techniques being used, and to provide a report of best practices within the realm of citizen surveys. The City of Kennedale's mission is aimed at exemplifying excellence. A survey tool was researched, developed and implemented to customers who have received services from the Fire Department and the Municipal Court within the last six months.

As scholarly theories and explorations of visuality continue to grow in prominence within the discourse on multimodal communication, a gap remains in the literature regarding the affective qualities of sound in multimedia messages. The following study attempts to address this gap and likewise propose a theory of auralacy (aural literacy) by examining the audiovisual interactions present in three different pharmaceutical commercials.
This study begins by examining literature regarding Gestalt perceptual theory, with emphasis on its origins, historical developments, and current status in perceptual research. The literature shows that perceptual wholes may be formed visually, tactilely, aurally, or even intermodally. After …

Linkage Among U.S. Interest Rates And East Asian Purchases Of U.S. Treasury Securities, Dene T. Hurley Dr.

Publications and Research

Recent increases in East Asian purchases of US treasury securities has led to growing concern over its impact on the US economy, particularly on the US long-term and shortterm interest rates. The vector error-correction model results revealed the presence of long-run causal relations among the federal funds rate, the 10-year Treasury rate and the East Asian demand in addition to a unidirectional short-run causal relation from the 10-year rate to the Federal funds rate. The variance decomposition and impulse response findings indicated that the Asian demand for US assets has a limited but negative impact on the 10-year US Treasury …

Many older adults experience a decrease in physical activity, which often leads to decreases in functioning. Older adults have been shown to have the lowest levels of physical activity for all age groups. This lack of physical activity has been shown to lead to decreases in performance of activities of daily living (ADLs), independence, quality of life, and increases in number of falls, chance of institutionalization, morbidity, and mortality. Most Georgia state agencies have full-time employees whose duties include lobbying General Assembly members on behalf of the agency. These employees act as liaisons between the agencies and the state elected officials and perform duties such as constituent services, providing information to legislators, and advice and expertise on issues affecting their agency. Periodically, the media has written articles questioning whether taxpayers’ funds should be used to pay the salaries of these “lobbyists.” This practice has come under fire as being a questionable or wasteful use of taxpayers’ monies. The Joint Fire Science Program, the National Wildfire Coordinating Group Fuels Management Committee, and Sonoma Technology, Inc. are unveiling the prototype of a new planning environment that will help fuels specialists negotiate the confusing array of planning tools. The new framework, dubbed the Interagency Fuels Treatment Decision Support System, or IFT-DSS, organizes fuels-planning software and data into a seamless user environment. IFT-DSS offers users access to powerful modeling software from within a well-designed, intuitive graphical user interface, and it provides a common platform for the further development of fuels-planning software tools.
