College Students And Stress Management: Utilizing Biofeedback And Relaxation Skills Training, Shannon Jones Anstead

This study was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of biofeedback and relaxation skills training to help alleviate college students' stress symptoms. Data was collected from 659 full-time college students who attended a total of 1,170 biofeedback sessions over the course of two years. Results of the study indicated that the top three stress-related symptoms students experienced were (a) feeling overwhelmed, (b) feeling anxious, and (c) difficulty concentrating. Furthermore, the top three stressors rated by students were (a) too much to do, (b) homework, and (c) classes and school. The chemistry collection exists to support the teaching, research, and service endeavors of the Department of Chemistry and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln community. The public may benefit from the chemistry collection, although specific materials are not collected to meet their needs. Chemistry-related materials not available in the library’s collection are generally readily available through Interlibrary Loan. The collection is focused on QD Library of Congress call number range, although the heavily interdisciplinary nature of scientific study necessitates some overlap with other Q call number ranges, R, S, T, and other areas.

In 1968, the Departments of History, English, and Sociology joined together to teach “The Negro in American Society”; in 1970, the first Chicano Literature course at UNL was taught by Ralph Grajeda; during the 1971-1972 academic year, the Centennial Education Program allowed students to study Lakota Sioux culture and language in conjunction with the Rosebud Reservation.

Exploring Hurtful Communication From College Teachers To Students: A Mixed Methods Study, Michelle Marie Maresh

The purpose of this study was to extend teacher misbehavior research via an investigation of teacher communication that is perceived as hurtful by college students. While previous research on teacher misbehavior focuses on the content-oriented dimension of teacher-student communication, this study goes a step further by also considering the relational dimension. A mixed methods approach is used in this study to explore the function of hurtful communication in the teacher-student relationship. There were 34 participants in the first, qualitative, phase of this study; whereas the second, quantitative, phase of this study was comprised of 208 participants.

Cooperatives differ from other businesses in that they are owned by their patrons and net margins are distributed to patrons on the basis of use instead of capital investment. For financing, cooperatives often rely on allocated equities from retained patronage refunds. Retained patronage refunds are noncash allocations of net margins reinvested in a cooperative by patrons. Under an ideal program of equity formation, equity is held by patrons in proportion to patronage. Each patron’s share of financing the cooperative is equal to the share of benefits received. Liquefaction of soils in response to earthquake shaking is a pressing issue in the state of California. Using Geographic Information Systems, Geological and lithology layers, along with criteria in order to separate out the data into four risk categories, a liquefaction risk assessment map was created for San Luis Obispo and Marin Counties. The accuracy of these maps was then assessed using liquefaction occurrences for San Luis Obispo County, and it was determined that while the map is somewhat accurate, in order to obtain a greater amount of accuracy and increase the usefulness of these maps, more data would need …

The effects of cities on the subjective states of individuals have been the subject of continuous inquiry. Recent research has demonstrated potential links between immediate environments and individual outcomes such as perceived powerlessness. However, the results of such studies are inconsistent and fail to account for the greater societal environment in which observations occur. Using a more comparative, cross-national sample and multi-level modeling, we retest the expectation that the immediate physical and social environment influences feelings of powerlessness, and extend the test to consider urbanism operating at societal levels beyond the local. Controlling for demographic composition, we find that urban …

Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications

Objective: Identify characteristics of hospitalbased language services (LS), and describe practices of identifying patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) and interpreter training.

Participants: Seventy-one hospitals applied to participate in a national initiative. Applicants were non-federal, acute care hospitals with substantial LEP populations, at least 10,000 discharges, and in-person interpreters.

Methods: Descriptive statistics were generated on language, collection of language data, LEP volume and service utilization, staffing and training requirements and organizational structure. The relationship between admissions and encounters was analyzed.

Results Ninety percent of hospitals collect primary language data. Spanish is the most common language (93% of hospitals). …

The Institute for Policy and Economic Development (IPED) at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) was contracted by Workforce Solutions - Upper Rio Grande (URG) to conduct an employee satisfaction survey as part of a larger evaluation project in which Workforce Solutions – URG’s business clients and jobseekers were also surveyed. The employee survey focused on issues related to how employees feel about various topics with regard to their work experiences at Workforce Solutions - URG.
