Arbitration has been used throughout history as an alternative dispute resolution method with great success. Today, arbitration is commonly used in international trade related disputes as one of the most common dispute resolution methods. In this thesis I will examine some of the most important international treaties and laws that regulate this dispute resolution method, such as the New York Convention, Uncitral Model Law, as well as the Federal Arbitration Act. The two main international arbitration institutions are the main focus of this thesis. A 2001 report by the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) indicated there is likely to be a shortage of sport officials in the near future. This report also indicated that soccer and field hockey were already struggling to find officials as early as 2001. The purpose of this article is to identify researched recruitment and retention issues of sports officials; ways to retain current officials; and strategies to help recruit new officials.

Podcasting: An Effective Tool For Honing Language Students' Pronunciation?, Lara Ducate, Lara Lomicka

This paper reports on an investigation of podcasting as a tool for honing pronunciation skills in intermediate language learning. We examined the effects of using podcasts to improve pronunciation in second language learning and how students' attitudes changed toward pronunciation over the semester. A total of 22 students in intermediate German and French courses made five scripted pronunciation recordings throughout the semester. After the pronunciation recordings, students produced three extemporaneous podcasts. Students also completed a pre- and post-survey based on Elliott's (1995) Pronunciation Attitude Inventory to assess their perspectives regarding pronunciation. Stories are memorable and convincing. One way to efficiently tell stories is through movie and video clips. I summarize several video clips that may be useful in teaching aspects of Schumpeter’s important theory of creative destruction. Among the clips discussed are: Hugh Laurie’s Protest Song, electric light segment from a documentary on the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition, eBay Toy Boat Ad, Miss Princess Fun Brick Ad, Moscow toilet paper queue scene, the New York coffee aisle scene from Moscow on the Hudson, and Peck and DeVito’s speeches from Other People’s Money.

National and international organizations and programs like the United States Global Change Research Project and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change agree, and scientific evidence indicates, that anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are resulting in global climate change. Unless actions are taken to reverse and reduce the effects of these emissions, future generations will need to either adapt to or bear the burden of the changed environment. Individuals, companies, institutions, municipalities and countries are being called upon during this urgent world crisis. Universities, which support research and education, have a unique opportunity to become leaders in sustainability.

The KAP is a representative survey conducted on a particular population to identify the knowledge (K), attitudes (A) and practices (P) of a population on a specific topic – landmines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) in our case. Just Doing What They Gotta Do: Single Black Custodial Fathers Coping With The Stresses And Reaping The Rewards Of Parenting, Roberta L. Coles

Social and Cultural Sciences Faculty Research and Publications

For single African American custodial fathers, parenting stress is exacerbated by the cultural expectation that Black fathers are "normally" absent and by the clustering of stresses that Black men are more likely to encounter. This sample of African American fathers have used a repertoire of problem-focused and cognitive coping strategies, including some that are frequently considered "culturally specific." Twenty Black single custodial fathers are interviewed and their narratives are analyzed for concepts and thematic categories related to stress and coping. Their narratives indicate that certain strategies are avoided because (a) these strategies are not available to them and (b) they …

This Carsey brief looks at the geographic distribution of health insurance for children. Based on data from the 2008 American Community Survey, it includes such findings as one in ten children are still uninsured, insurance rates vary considerably by geographic area, and rural children are most likely to depend on public plans for their health care.

The Carsey Institute is participating in a study to examine America's civic health. Led by the Conference on Citizenship (NCoC), America's Civic Health Index is an annual study that measures a wide variety of civic indicators, such as community involvement and helping others. New Hampshire is one of six states partnering with NCoC to produce a state-specific report that examines the civic health in the Granite State.
