Modern Parents And Postmodern Adolescents Conflicts And Solutions: A Theoretical Model, Benjamin R. Dobbeck

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

The past 30 years has witnessed a dramatic shift in worldview from [he modern m the postmodern. This can be seen everyday in an, architecture, teaching, music- virtually any expressive medium and recent philosophy. The underpinnings for the postmodern shift in culture revolve around 1.hc Lack of absolutes, non-representative language, a new tolerance and diversity for different ideas and beliefs, and a belief that individuals create their own reality in the social context of community. The family is not immune to these culture shifts and is reflecting them in many ways. Parents of the modem era, the era defined by …

The Changing Face Of Spring Training In Florida, Richard C. Crepeau Apr 2000

The Changing Face Of Spring Training In Florida, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

As another baseball season begins and the optimism of spring training is quickly overtaken by reality, it occurs to me that spring training here in Florida has undergone vast changes over the past two decades and more may be on the way. I have now been going to spring training for thirty years, another reality with which I must deal, and it remains a special time for me and for the sport.

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the longitudinal effect of a planned in-school practicum experience addressing cultural diversity on the self perception of student teachers regarding their interpersonal competency in such situations. Subjects of the study were eighteen student teachers of agricultural education and six student teachers of family and consumer science enrolled in the Colleges of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and Human Resources and Family Sciences respectively. Development And Construct Validity Of Scores On The Community Service Attitudes Scale, Ann Harris Shiarella, Anne M. Mccarthy, Mary L. Tucker Apr 2000

Development And Construct Validity Of Scores On The Community Service Attitudes Scale, Ann Harris Shiarella, Anne M. Mccarthy, Mary L. Tucker

Evaluation/Reflection

This study reports the multistage development of the Community Service Attitudes Scale (CSAS), an instrument for measuring college students' attitudes about community service. The CSAS was developed based on Schwartz's helping behavior model. Scores on the scales of the CSAS yielded strong reliability evidence (coefficient alphas ranging from .72 to .93). Principal components analysis yielded results consistent with the Schwartz model. In addition, the CSAS scale scores were positively correlated with gender, college major, community service experience, and intentions to engage in community service. The CSAS will be useful to researchers for conducting further research on the effects of service …

American Indians In Court: The Burger And Rehnquist Years, John R. Hermann Apr 2000

American Indians In Court: The Burger And Rehnquist Years, John R. Hermann

Political Science Faculty Research

The Supreme Court and individual justices' treatment of American Indian interests has generated relatively little scholarly attention. To fill this void in the extant literature, this study seeks to examine how American Indian interests fared before the Supreme Court of the United States during the Burger and Rehnquist Courts (1969-1992 October terms) and attempts to discern the factors influencing their treatment. The findings indicate that while American Indian interests won 48% of their cases, the Burger Court was much more sympathetic than the Rehnquist Court to the plight of this politically disadvantaged group. The error correcting strategy, the ideological proclivities …
