Female Adolescent Offender's Experience With Restorative Justice Practice, Leslie Ann Houghtaling

This hermeneutic study examines the lived experience of one female juvenile offender as she went through the restorative justice practice of either victim-offender mediation (VOM) or group conferencing. Hermeneutics is an interpretive approach to looking at everyday experiences and uncovering what is usually hidden from us. When asked about her experience, one theme stood out as essential for the participant: becoming trustworthy. Several aspects including being listened to, re-developing relationships, and making amends with those who were harmed by the crime marked the participant's transformation. These findings correspond with Erikson's psychosocial stages of adolescence and young adulthood, as well as …

What motivates an individual to become a leader? Why do individuals want to influence and provide direction to others? What drives someone to be part of the leadership process? It is these questions that present the framework of this study.
More specifically, this grounded theory study will analyze the factors that motivate an individual to become a leader based on: Janet Hagberg's Leadership Model, the various writings of psychologist Abraham H. Maslow, and the data gathered from qualitative interviews with the Augsburg MAL Alumni.

She was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1942. Her father had been born in Turkey, but he moved to Italy and went to Egypt to escape the racial laws. Her mother's family was also from Turkey, but she was born in Egypt. In Alexandria her family lived a very cosmopolitan life, speaking French among themselves and hardly learning Arabic. Her great-grandmother's generation of women could not read or write, although the men generally went to the university. In 1947 they moved to Italy, and in 1953 to Argentina.
