A Comparison Of The Coverage Of The 1993-94 Political Crisis In Nigeria By The New York Times And Al Ahram Weekly: A Content Analysis, Eucharia Chinelo Oramah

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The annulment of a presidential election held on June 12, 1993, in Nigeria led to a grave political upheaval, second only to a civil war fought in Nigeria in 1967-70. This political crisis of great human and economic consequences, happening in an important African country, attracted huge global 1nedia attention. The Human Factors Analysis And Classification System--Hfacs, Scott A. Shappell, Douglas A. Wiegmann Feb 2000

The Human Factors Analysis And Classification System--Hfacs, Scott A. Shappell, Douglas A. Wiegmann

Publications

Human error has been implicated in 70 to 80% of all civil and military aviation accidents. Yet, most accident reporting systems are not designed around any theoretical framework of human error. As a result, most accident databases are not conducive to a traditional human error analysis, making the identification of intervention strategies onerous. What is required is a general human error framework around which new investigative methods can be designed and existing accident databases restructured. Indeed, a comprehensive human factors analysis and classification system (HFACS) has recently been developed to meet those needs. Specifically, the HFACS framework has been used …

Predictors Of Task And Contextual Performance: Frame-Of-Reference Effects And Applicant Reaction Effects On Selection System Validity, John Hunthausen Feb 2000

Predictors Of Task And Contextual Performance: Frame-Of-Reference Effects And Applicant Reaction Effects On Selection System Validity, John Hunthausen

Dissertations and Theses

An employment process suprasystem contains human resource-related systems such as training, recruitment, performance appraisal, and personnel selection. Similarly, a personnel selection system consists of interdependent subsystems that work together to manifest its properties (e.g., the acquisition of qualified and high-potential individuals). Finally, each of these complex subsystems (e.g., applicant reactions to selection methods) have interdependent elements (e.g., procedural and distributive justice) that work together to manifest the properties of the subsystem (e.g., applicant fairness perceptions).

This dissertation takes such a systems approach to understanding the complexities of a personnel selection system to explore the interactions among three of its subsystems: …

Inclusion And Exclusion Of Religion: Is There Only One Solution?, Anita Walters Jan 2000

Inclusion And Exclusion Of Religion: Is There Only One Solution?, Anita Walters

Theses and Graduate Projects

Religious freedom in practice and expression has been a paramount force in American society since the pilgrims originally settled in the New World. Many came to escape religious persecution and to be free to pursue their own beliefs. The fact that the First Amendment of the Constitution provides for religious freedom further demonstrates the importance of this principle.

The truth is that in spite of the importance placed on this topic and the debate in interpreting its meaning, the issue of separation remains confusing. Even in today's diverse society, it is a compelling, yet illusive principle. This paper addresses this …
