Does crime respond to changes in the minimum wage? A growing body of empirical evidence indicates that increases in the minimum wage have a displacement effect on low-skilled workers. Economic reasoning provides the possibility that disemployment may cause youth to substitute from legal work to crime. However, there is also the countervailing effect of a higher wage raising the opportunity cost of crime for those who remain employed. We use the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 cohort to measure the effect of increases in the minimum wage on self-reported criminal activity and examine employment–crime substitution. Trust relationships occur naturally in many diverse contexts such as collaborative systems, e-commerce, interpersonal interactions, social networks, and semantic sensor web. As agents providing content and services become increasingly removed from the agents that consume them, the issue of robust trust inference and update becomes critical. There is a need to find online substitutes for traditional (direct or face-to-face) cues to derive measures of trust, and create efficient and robust systems for managing trust in order to support decision-making. Cursing is not uncommon during conversations in the physical world: 0.5% to 0.7% of all the words we speak are curse words, given that 1% of all the words are first-person plural pronouns (e.g., we, us, our). On social media, people can instantly chat with friends without face-to-face interaction, usually in a more public fashion and broadly disseminated through highly connected social network. City Of Sharonville Resident Perception Survey, Center For Urban And Public Affairs, Wright State University

Government Services

This report summarizes the perceptions of Sharonville’s citizens, and studies differences in perceptions between groups of people. Survey questions have been grouped into topical areas, such as “General Public Sentiment” and “Views of City Services,” representing the chapters in this report. In each section, the results from the survey are described in detail, and statistical differences between groups of people are noted whenever applicable.

The survey instrument was designed by researchers at APRI (formerly CUPA) with the input and approval of the City of Sharonville. The questionnaire was developed from APRI’s experience in conducting surveys for local governments.

Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act) prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings to the protected classes, which include:

My study examined the effect of psychological contract breach by a supervisor on employee job outcomes (OCBs, CWBs, and job satisfaction). Also, I tested the moderating effects of the quality of a relationship between an employee and his or her supervisor, and an employee and his or her organization, on the psychological contract breach - job outcomes relationship. I found minimal support that employees distinguish between their supervisors and their organizations when assessing psychological contract breach. Also, I found no support that relationship quality had any moderating effects. However, I did find that LMX-I and LMX-O might measure the same …

The mining of user generated content in social media has proven very effective in domains ranging from personalization and recommendation systems to crisis management. The knowledge of online users locations makes their tweets more informative and adds another dimension to their analysis. Existing approaches to predict the location of Twitter users are purely data-driven and require large training data sets of geo-tagged tweets. The Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud has gained significant attention in the Semantic Web community over the past few years. With rapid expansion in size and diversity, it consists of over 800 interlinked datasets with over 60 billion triples. These datasets encapsulate structured data and knowledge spanning over varied domains such as entertainment, life sciences, publications, geography, and government. Greene County Parks And Trails: Community Survey, Center For Urban And Public Affairs, Wright State University

This survey, conducted by APRI (formerly CUPA) captured how informed residents are about the parks and trails, where they get their information, their opinions of the quality and value of the parks and trails, what they feel should be the park district's top spending priorities, and to gauge the feasibility of a possible operating issue. Five hundred (500) voters, sampled from the Greene County Board of Elections Voter Registry, were interviewed for this survey from May 7, 2014 to June 3, 2014, resulting in 95% confidence for the study and a margin of error of +/- 4.4%.

Empirical data is provided to document areas of Greek occupational safety and health concern. Team-based learning (TBL) is an increasingly popular teaching technique within healthcare education. However, much remains unknown about the processes underlying its effectiveness. I examined shared leadership behaviors in TBL teams and their relationship to academic performance and team decision quality both in the classroom and in an applied setting. To examine these relationships, I used round-robin peer evaluations that I analyzed using the Social Relations Model. Results failed to support my hypotheses. Individual resilience is popular topic whereby researchers attempt to identify characteristics of individuals who react positively to stress. However, such research uses a reactionary approach, attempting to characterize successful individuals after they experience adversity and does not explain why some individuals proactively seek out challenging circumstances. Pursuing challenge is a new construct that explains why individuals proactively increase stress as a strategic mechanism for developmental purposes. I developed and validated a measurement tool for pursuing challenge in multiple studies. The current study examined how various rater-level variables are related to performance ratings. Student participants watched a series of video clips depicting high, medium, and low levels of employee work performance. The participants then rated the performance of the employee depicted in the video on a graphic rating scale. The rater level variables examined for the current study included rater goals, cognitive ability, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. The results indicated that focusing the on the strength of the employee (strength goal) was associated with rating elevation and that rater conscientiousness was associated with rating deflation.
