This article examines the oral communication training that took place in Eloqi, a virtual language-learning community. Eloqi (a pseudonym) was a for-profit start-up that built and operated a proprietary Web-based, voice-enabled platform connecting English-language learners in China with trainers in the United States. While it existed, Eloqi’s unique platform was used to deliver short, one-on-one lessons designed to improve students’ oral English communication skills. Using the ethnography of communication and speech codes theory, a theoretical–methodological approach, the author presents an analysis of the speech code, or code of communicative conduct, employed at Eloqi. As a result library and information science (LIS) programs are beginning to encourage the inclusion of more international perspectives in student experiences. Open access (OA) is a form of publication that allows some level of free access to scholarly publications. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a repository to which OA journals may apply and upload content to increase discoverability. Recent decades have witnessed explosion in the quantity of information produced, which in turn has created vast opportunities for information-based businesses. Thus, advertisers of information products (IPs) often use daily issues of newspapers to create public awareness on the nature, availability and the prices of their products. The types of advertising strategies adopted by the advertisers of the IPs vary and greatly determine the level of patronage of the products. Polytechnic libraries play pivotal roles in the sustenance and advancement of the academic activities of their parent institutions. They bridge the gap between the vast information resources available in different disciplines and polytechnics through their services. This article evaluates the use of polytechnic libraries in Nigeria focusing on the Federal Polytechnic Offa library, Kwara State, Nigeria. This report summarizes the results of year seven of a national random-digit-dial public opinion poll asking 1,503 respondents if they would support various tax options for raising federal transportation revenues, with a special focus on understanding support for increasing revenues for public transit. Ten specific tax options tested were variations on raising the federal gas tax rate, creating a new mileage tax, and creating a new federal sales tax. Other questions probed perceptions related to public transit, including knowledge and opinions about federal taxes to support transit. Emotional Intelligence Of Library Personnel And Library Work Productivity In Selected Academic Libraries In Oyo State, Nigeria, John Adeboye Oyeboade

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a capacity that profoundly affects all other abilities in every human being, either facilitating or interfering with them. This study investigated emotional intelligence of library personnel and library work productivity in selected Academic Libraries in Oyo State, Nigeria. Responses were generated from 186 library personnel across eight (8) selected academic libraries in Oyo State, Nigeria. The questionnaire was used for data collection. Using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation, it was found out that Self-Awareness (r = .521**; P < 0.05), Self-Management (r = .154*; P < 0.05), Social Awareness (r = .192**; P < 0.05), and Relationship Management (r = .790**; P < 0.05) were positively correlated with Library Work Productivity. Likewise, Emotional Intelligence (r = .085*; P < 0.05) has significant positive relationship with Library Work Productivity. The ANOVA showed that self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management jointly and significantly predict library work productivity by 52.1%. The paper therefore, recommended academic library Managements can therefore include quality EI training and coaching in their on the job training programs. Those who work extra hours to make up for yet to be realised goals should adequately be motivated. Finally, Emotional Intelligence Quotients should form part of the criteria for employing library personnel in Nigerian academic libraries.

The result of a search for a theoretical framework and a conceptual model to explain lecturers’ use of Educational Support Systems (ESS) for teaching in university-based library schools in Nigeria.
