TDM Studio is an integrated platform offered by ProQuest for data and text mining. TDM stands for text and data mining. This cloud-based, all-in-one innovative product is designed to offer researchers a clean interface with rights-cleared content, Jupyter notebook, and data visualization tools. As a result, researchers can now search Pro-Quest databases, create large datasets, import data to Jupyter notebook for analysis, and download results within a day.

The Scholarly Communication Assessment Forum (SCAF) was planned to be held on the Sacramento State campus on May 4 & 5, 2020. When pandemic-related shelter-in-place restrictions were imposed in mid-March and it became clear an in-person event would be impossible, the project team had to quickly shift to a virtual event. While quickly changing the format of the event was challenging, there were also unexpected benefits. The project team was able to collect much richer data by recording all sessions and breakout discussions. Do you have issues quantifying the success of your scholarly communication programs? Many CSUs not only struggle with how to properly fund and staff scholarly communication programs, but also how to show their value. Sacramento State and San Jose State received an IMLS National Forum grant in 2019 to determine how similar public institutions were assessing their scholarly communication programs. In our multi-phased grant project, we used the University of Central Florida’s Research Lifecycle (https://library.ucf.edu/about/departments/scholarly-communication/overview-research-lifecycle/ ) as a framing document for all the multi-faceted services that scholarly communication encompasses. This program presents the result of an IMLS-funded, mixed-methods study that investigated the scholarly communication programming and staffing priorities among M1 (Master's Colleges and Universities – Larger programs) libraries. Using a complex research life cycle to frame discussion, twenty librarians from M1 institutions participated in focus groups and provided structured information on their libraries' scholarly communication program, development, and staffing. Scholarly communication service and support among M1 institutions continue to grow and develop within the context of limited budgets and staffing. Blockchain technology has the ability to transform how libraries provide services and organize information. To date, most of these applications are still in the conceptual stage. One of the most fundamental decisions a library makes is choosing an integrated library system, or ILS. A public library can remove unwanted outside influence and save money by switching their ILS to free and open source software, or FOSS. This article is an examination of the progress made by FOSS ILSs to become not only contenders against proprietary systems, but also an appropriate choice for financial, functional, and philosophical reasons. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Library at San Jose State University is a unique combination of both academic and public library. The academic library has a special place on the college campus in the United States; usually, it is centrally located on the university as a primary place of convergence. The King Library offers space for everybody’s use. Students at higher education institutions need to learn how to use the library and to give public speaking presentations, and most will experience Speech and or Library Anxiety. We review Library and Speech Anxiety, and a collaboration between librarians and faculty that produced a freshman course Library Demonstration Assignment. We describe its generation, implementation, and refinement and its effectiveness in preparing students to use the library and to practice public speaking with confidence.

This article uses empirical data from a recent obtrusive study of reference performance to explore content validity and assumptions regarding unobtrusive studies. Data collected by author support the contention that improvements are highly desirable before conducting more unobtrusive studies of reference service. The two most important changes concern the development of test questions representing all types of queries and supplementing the correct fill rate with other measures of reference performance.

Innovation has the potential for increasing the effectiveness of information service. As a result of this interest in innovation, organizational theorists have begun to explore the effect of organizational design upon flexibility, creativity, and productivity of organizations. A review of existing literature, however, provides no comprehensive theory of organizational innovation. Research on organizational design and innovation in libraries could contribute to the systematic study of the impact of organization structure . Studies by Howard and Luquire indicate that traditional library organizations may inhibit change as well as the reexamination of values and service. Further study is needed to determine how …

Trends in higher education are toward part-time students and majors in professional fields which are associated with low library use. Research findings at San Jose State University, California and other academic libraries, demonstrate that declining library use may be a future trend. Declining use will further erode administrative support for library budgets. Libraries must become effective in identifying and meeting the information needs of new nontraditional students. User surveys establishing service priorities can be an effective tool in planning library service for future student and faculty populations.
