In the fall of 2000 the state of Illinois Department of Human Services, Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS), introduced its new Virtual Case Management System, (VCM). This exciting new concept in case management greatly reduces paperwork and labor-intensive handling of customer files. VCM streamlines status movements, reduces errors and improves timelines of services. Illinois continues to upgrade its new technology to include time saving features and assure safe, confidential treatment of customer information.

This paper focuses on the elements of effective ADA advocacy and advocacy strategies in general. "Qualified person with a disability", "effective communication", "auxiliary aids and services”, "undue hardship/burden", and other topics are addressed. Readers are provided with recent case law defining "mitigating measures" that serve to disqualify individuals with disabilities, givingexamplesoflegaldeterminationsofwhatisconsidered"reasonable", and furnished with creative, effective negotiation strategies. The conference themes are also addressed by providing the professional with innovative issues and identification tools that can lead to effective remedies, as well as dynamic advocacy strategies for diverse situations.

There are numerous models and approaches used to treat chemical dependency. The majority of these programs are used with hearing people, and there is a lack of experience in the use of these models within the deaf and hard of hearing community. This article will focus on the Twelve Step model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Model and the Bio-Psycho- Social Model (Social Program Model). A discussion and comparison with the harm reduction model will also be discussed.

With the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, sign language interpreter demands have dramatically increased and non-profit agencies for the Deaf have been inundated with requests for interpreting services. Paper and pencil systems to track interpreter requests, bill for services, and pay the interpreters have quickly become ineffective for handling large volumes of interpreter requests. The Solitary Mainstream Experience In Retrospect: The Adult Voice—Preliminary Findings, Gina A. Olivia

The Solitary Mainstream project involved 60 deaf and hard of hearing adults ranging in age from 25 to 65, looking back on their K-12 years in the mainstream apart from other D/HH children. A majority of the informants spent their entire school career as "the only one," and the remainder spent at least seven years as such. Essays written in response to an initial global prompt and four specific prompts about these school years were collected and analyzed.
