A university may be compared by its size of population and activities to a small city, with high water consumption and in need of effective water conservation strategies. This study presents the results of a study of water consumption on the Mae Fah Luang University campus in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Consumption was classified by activity type, water usage and water saving behavior of students and staff. The results suggest strategies for water conservation on campus. With a water conservation plan focusing on residential areas (halls and homes), which accounted for the highest levels of consumption on the campus. The study …

This research proposes the application of the Land-Water-Population (LWPM) concept in the upper part of the Pranburi Watershed. The objective of the study is to develop a model for agricultural resources management under the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP). The methodology is divided into three parts; 1) evaluate the soil quality in agricultural areas, 2) analyze water quality in agricultural land; and 3) assess farmer practice in agricultural resources management using a questionnaire. Emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas, from typical passenger vehicles in Thailand was investigated using a chassis dynamometer in the Automotive Emission Laboratory. The vehicle running method was controlled under the standard Bangkok driving cycle. CO2 emissions were measured at three different speeds for the following four vehicle types commonly used in Thailand: heavy duty diesel (HDD), light duty diesel (LDD), and light duty gasoline (LDG) vehicles and motorcycles (MC). HDD vehicles had the highest average CO2 emission rate, followed by LDD, LDG and MC at 1,198.8±93.1, 268.4±21.3, 166.1±27.7 and 42.5±6.1 g km-1, respectively; all values were significantly …

The study aimed to investigate the efficiency of piggery wastewater treatment by the surface flow constructed wetland with three different grass species; bulrush (Scirpus spp.), cattail (Typha angustifoliaL.), and vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides L.). All pilot units were used for wastewater treatment by the flowing surface water system, giving a system carrying capacity of several 0.18 m3 d-1 of HLR with a 5 day hydraulic retention time (HRT). Elderly in Bhutan are rising steadily as a proportion of total population. In 2015, population older than 60 constituted about 7.3% of the total population compared to 6.9% in 2010. By 2030, the elderly population is estimated to reach 10.1% of total population. Along with growing numbers of elderly in Bhutan and rapid socioeconomic transformations, the individual-level of happiness decreases with age, the lowest being among the elderly (the Gross National Happiness Index surveys of 2010 and 2015 and Bhutan Living Standard Survey 2012). This dissertation studied the tobacco use impact of on health care utilization, household expenditure, and self-rated health among rural residents in rural China. The 2010-2014 China Family Panel Studies data were employed here. Moreover, this study also conducted the randomized controlled trial and analyzed the cost-effectiveness smoking cessation intervention among college-aged smokers in Inner Mongolia, China. The main findings showed: (1) Current and former smokers use more outpatient care than non-smokers. Moreover, former smokers use more inpatient care than non-smokers in rural China. This thesis examines clean coal technology to be used in Thailand in three studies. The economic impacts on the economic structure of southern Thailand are forecasted with the input-output method. Further, the relative levelized costs of clean coal energy relative to its amount of carbon equivalent emissions are compared to other technologies and their carbon equivalent emissions in order to compute a carbon certificate price. This dissertation provides new empirical evidence for the relationship between network structure and asset returns in US, international markets, and Thailand. Previous studies find that a network of return correlations provides the meaningful economic taxonomy of the equity market. This finding makes the network structure a suitable channel through which an idiosyncratic shock propagates. This network feature can eliminate or amplify the idiosyncratic shock on the system-wide level. Therefore, the diversifying argument of the capital asset pricing models is not always true as the idiosyncratic shock becomes more significant when interacting with the network measures. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of economic policy uncertainty on carry trade. Based on 24 countries (both emerging and developed markets) during the past 17 years, the paper considers five strategies of carry trade investment (i.e. positive carry, carry to risk, yield slope, policy change and valuation), three methods of portfolio constructions (equal weight, risk parity and mean variance optimization), and four types of economic policy uncertainties (US, Japan, EU and Global). Myanmar is committed to achieve unfinished agenda for reducing child mortality, fourth indicator of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and global target to achieve under-five mortality rate 25 per 1000 live births in 2030. Moreover, under-five mortality varies across states and regions within the country and the study aims to explore determinants of mortality across different health care planning zones. This study aimed to measure technical efficiency of 88 private clinics under Universal Coverage Scheme (UC) in Bangkok in fiscal year 2017 and to identify the factors affecting their technical efficiency. The objectives of this study aimed to evaluate the Technical Efficiency of public district hospitals in Vietnam and to determine factors affecting the hospitals' efficiency. Input-Oriented Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model was applied to estimate the technical efficiency scores among 52 public district hospitals in 6 provinces of Vietnam in 2014. Studies on the profile of income inequality revealed that Singaporean Malays continuously occupied the lowest income strata and fared relatively poorer in their academic performance compared to other races. In a highly competitive meritocratic education system that rewards relative merit, yet neglects how unequal backgrounds provided unfair starting points for some, such low-income Malay households may appear to be systemically disadvantaged by income inequality and their access to better education. Foreign direct investment (FDI) has increased globally since the late 1980s. It increased rapidly in Cambodia in the past two decades. This paper aims to examine the determinants of inward FDI from China, South Korea and Japan and its contribution to economic growth in Cambodia during 1994-2014, using both time series analysis by country and the panel data analysis. This study applies the continuum model of impression formation and the stereotype content model to investigate the effect of warmth and competence stereotype on blatant and subtle hiring discrimination against highly-competent candidates. Study 1 (N = 220) used hypothetical countries and Study 2 (N = 512) used four ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) countries to manipulate the competence and warmth stereotypes. The results offer a theoretical extension to the stereotype content model where warmth and competence stereotypes have differentiating effects on hiring discrimination against highly-competent candidates. The ASEAN Power Grid (APG) was initiated in 1997 as a means to achieve energy security in Southeast Asia in a sustainable manner. Two decades on, the APG project faces significant challenges to the development of both physical and institutional infrastructure.
