Environmental Pollution Of Heavy Metals In A Vietnamese Informal E-Waste Processing Village, Hien Thi Thu Ngo, Li Liang, Diep Bich Nguyen, Hai Ngoc Doan, Pensri Watchalayan

Applied Environmental Research

Inappropriate handlings of informal e-waste processing have increasingly become a global environmental and public health issue of concern. This study was conducted to quantify the concentrations of five heavy metals found in the environmental media at an exposed village and a reference village in Northern Vietnam. The correlations between a pair of the heavy metals found in a medium, and between a pair of the environmental media was found. The results showed that drinking water was safe for heavy metal exposure in both studied villages. However, at the exposed village, the levels of the heavy metals found in indoor soil …

Environmental Soil, Water, And Sediment Quality Of Dong Thang Landfill In Can Tho City, Vietnam, Huynh T. H. Nhien, Giao T. Nguyen May 2019

Environmental Soil, Water, And Sediment Quality Of Dong Thang Landfill In Can Tho City, Vietnam, Huynh T. H. Nhien, Giao T. Nguyen

Applied Environmental Research

This study is a preliminary assessment of water, soil, and bottom sediment quality at and around Dong Thang landfill in Co Do district, Can Tho city, Vietnam. Four canal water samples, one leachate sample, and three soil samples from the surrounding rice fields, two bottom sediment samples from the canals, and one bottom sediment sample from the leachate pond were examined for this purpose. The results revealed that the leachate sample contained six heavy metals (Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cr, and Ni) with high electrical conductivity (EC), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), ammonia …

Bioaccumulation Of Heavy Metals Using Selected Organisms Isolated From Electronic Waste Dumpsite Of Two South-Western States In Nigeria, Akintokun K. Aderonke, Onatunde O. Oladimeji, Olufunke B. Shittu, Itunu C. Okeyode, Michael O. Taiwo May 2017

Bioaccumulation Of Heavy Metals Using Selected Organisms Isolated From Electronic Waste Dumpsite Of Two South-Western States In Nigeria, Akintokun K. Aderonke, Onatunde O. Oladimeji, Olufunke B. Shittu, Itunu C. Okeyode, Michael O. Taiwo

Applied Environmental Research

Heavy metals from electronic wastes can accumulate to alarming concentrations in soils, causing significant detrimental impacts on human life and the environment. Bioaccumulation of heavy metals by bacteria and fungi has been a major focus of most bioremediation studies owing to the excellent metal-binding properties. The current study was conducted to isolate the most promising Zn, Cu and Pb tolerant microorganisms from contaminated soils, and to assess their metal accumulating abilities. Bacillus licheniformis, B. polymyxa, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Micrococcus roseus, Aspergillus niger and A. flavus were selected for the bioaccumulation study, based on their known tolerance to heavy metals. Bacillus licheniformis …

Environmental And Health Impact Of Cement Factory Production In Ibese, Ogun State, Nigeria, Olayinka O. Olasumbo, Adedeji O. Hakeem, Oresanya O. Juwon, Alabi-Thompson O. Francisca May 2016

Environmental And Health Impact Of Cement Factory Production In Ibese, Ogun State, Nigeria, Olayinka O. Olasumbo, Adedeji O. Hakeem, Oresanya O. Juwon, Alabi-Thompson O. Francisca

Applied Environmental Research

This study investigated the effect of cement dust emitted from Dangote cement factory, Ibese, Ogun State, Nigeria on the environment and human health. Soil and plant samples were collected from six sampling points at different distances i.e. inside the factory kiln (IFK), the factory gate (TFG ? 50 m); Abule Oke (AOK ? 100 m), Maria (MAR ? 200 m), and Ibese (IBE ? 300m), based on the prevailing wind direction. Control samples were taken opposite the wind direction at ILA (Ilaro) about 1,000 m. Cu, Zn, Mn, Pb, Ni and Cd were analyzed in the samples using atomic absorption …

Distribution Of Heavy Metals In Mangrove Sediment At The Tha Chin Estuary, Samut Sakhon Province, Thailand, Supaporn Buajan, Nathsuda Pumijumnong Jul 2010

Distribution Of Heavy Metals In Mangrove Sediment At The Tha Chin Estuary, Samut Sakhon Province, Thailand, Supaporn Buajan, Nathsuda Pumijumnong

Applied Environmental Research

The concentrations of selected heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn) at a depth of 0-30 cm sediments from 11 stations in a mangrove forest at Bang Ya Praeg, Tha Chin Estuary, Samut Sakhon Province, Thailand were examined. The ranges of heavy metals, in mg kg-1 dry weight (dw), were as follows: Cd (0.035 to 0.070), Cu (7.90 to 21.91), Pb (11.91 to 25.74) and Zn (55.99 to 75.05). The dry season (April 2009) had higher levels of heavy metals than the wet season (August 2009). Heavy metals in the study area had the following order of prevalence: Zn > Pb …
