Behaviour Demand Response (BDR) is the process of communicating with the building occupants and integrating their behavioural flexibility into the energy value chain. In this paper we will present an integrated behavioural model based on well-established behavioural theories and show how it can be used to provide predictable flexibility to the production schedule optimisation. The proposed approach is two-fold: the model can be used to predict the expected behavioural flexibility of occupants as well as to generate optimal communication to trigger reliable BDR events. A system architecture will be presented showing how BDR can be integrated into simulation passed building/district …
Minimal Graphs With A Specified Code Map Image, Paul Feit
Minimal Graphs With A Specified Code Map Image, Paul Feit
Theory & Applications of Graphs
Let G be a graph and e1,…en be n distinct vertices. Let ρ be the metric on G. The code map on vertices, corresponding to this list, is c(x)=(ρ (x,e1),…ρ (x,en)). This paper introduces a variation: begin with V ⊆ Ζ^n for some n, and consider assignments of edges E such that the identity function on V is a code map for G=(V,E). Refer to such a set E as a code-match.
An earlier paper classified subsets of V for which at least one code-match exists. We prove …
Remarks On Legendrian Self-Linking, Chris Beasley, Brendan Mclellan, Ruoran Zhang
Remarks On Legendrian Self-Linking, Chris Beasley, Brendan Mclellan, Ruoran Zhang
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
The Thurston-Bennequin invariant provides one notion of self-linking for any homologically-trivial Legendrian curve in a contact three-manifold. Here we discuss related analytic notions of self-linking for Legendrian knots in R3. Our definition is based upon reformulation of the elementary Gauss linking integral and is motivated by ideas from supersymmetric gauge theory. We recover the Thurston-Bennequin invariant as a special case.

Connections between vital linkages and zero forcing are established. Specifically, the notion of a rigid linkage is introduced as a special kind of unique linkage and it is shown that spanning forcing paths of a zero forcing process form a spanning rigid linkage and thus a vital linkage. A related generalization of zero forcing that produces a rigid linkage via a coloring process is developed. One of the motivations for introducing zero forcing is to provide an upper bound on the maximum multiplicity of an eigenvalue among the real symmetric matrices described by a graph. Rigid linkages and a related …

Enthymemathical Proofs And Canonical Proofs In Euclid’S Plane Geometry, Abel Lassalle, Marco Panza
Enthymemathical Proofs And Canonical Proofs In Euclid’S Plane Geometry, Abel Lassalle, Marco Panza
MPP Published Research
Since the application of Postulate I.2 in Euclid’s Elements is not uniform, one could wonder in what way should it be applied in Euclid’s plane geometry. Besides legitimizing questions like this from the perspective of a philosophy of mathematical practice, we sketch a general perspective of conceptual analysis of mathematical texts, which involves an extended notion of mathematical theory as system of authorizations, and an audience-dependent notion of proof.
Index Theory For Invariant Elliptic Operators On Manifolds With Proper Cocompact Group Actions, Gong Cheng
Index Theory For Invariant Elliptic Operators On Manifolds With Proper Cocompact Group Actions, Gong Cheng
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis, we study G-invariant elliptic operators, and in particular Dirac operators, on the space of invariant sections of a Hermitian bundle over a (non-compact) manifold with a proper and cocompact Lie group action. We provide a canonical way to define the Hilbert space of invariant sections for proper and cocompact actions and prove that the G-invariant Dirac operators, and more generally, elliptic operators, are Fredholm for the Hilbert space we constructed. Using the framework developed in this thesis, we give a new proof of a generalized Lichnerowicz Vanishing Theorem for proper cocompact group actions as an application.

We propose a five parameter transmuted geometric quadratic hazard rate (TG-QHR) distribution derived from mixture of quadratic hazard rate (QHR), geometric and transmuted distributions via the application of transmuted geometric-G (TG-G) family of Afify et al.(Pak J Statist 32(2), 139-160, 2016). Some of its structural properties are studied. Moments, incomplete moments, inequality measures, residual life functions and some other properties are theoretically taken up. The TG-QHR distribution is characterized via different techniques. Estimates of the parameters for TG-QHR distribution are obtained using maximum likelihood method. The simulation studies are performed on the basis of graphical results to illustrate the performance …

Solution Of Mathematical Model For Gas Solubility Using Fractional-Order Bhatti Polynomials, Muhammad I. Bhatti, Paul Bracken, Nicholas Dimakis, Armando Herrera
School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications
Solutions of a mathematical model for gas solubility in a liquid are attained employing an algorithm based on the generalized Galerkin B-poly basis technique. The algorithm determines a solution of a fractional differential equation in terms of continuous finite number of generalized fractional-order Bhatti polynomial (B-poly) in a closed interval. The procedure uses Galerkin method to calculate the unknown expansion coefficients for constructing a solution to the fractional-order differential equation. Caputo?s fractional derivative is employed to evaluate the derivatives of the fractional B-polys and each term in the differential equation is converted into a matrix problem which is then inverted …

Industries can improve their business efficiency by analyzing and extracting relevant knowledge from large numbers of documents. Knowledge extraction manually from large volume of documents is labor intensive, unscalable and challenging. Consequently, there have been a number of attempts to develop intelligent systems to automatically extract relevant knowledge from OCR documents. Moreover, the automatic system can improve the capability of search engine by providing application-specific domain knowledge. However, extracting the efficient information from OCR documents is challenging due to highly unstructured format. In this paper, we propose an efficient framework for a knowledge extraction system that takes keywords based queries …

The Effects Of Motivation, Technology And Satisfaction On Student Achievement In Face-To-Face And Online College Algebra Classes, Hanan Jamal Amro, Marie-Anne Mundy, Lori Kupczynski
TxDLA Journal of Digital Learning
Demand for online learning has increased in recent years due to the convenience of class delivery. However, some students appear to have difficulties with online education resulting in lack of completion. The study utilized a quantitative approach with archival data and survey design. The factors of demographics, motivation, technology, and satisfaction were compared for face-to-face and online students. MANCOVA tests were performed to analyze the data while controlling age and gender to uncover significant differences between the two groups. The sample and population for this study were predominantly Hispanic students.
Motivation and Technology were non-significant, but satisfaction was proven to …

Confidence Intervals For The Area Under The Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve In The Presence Of Ignorable Missing Data, Hunyong Cho, Gregory J. Matthews, Ofer Harel
Mathematics and Statistics: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Receiver operating characteristic curves are widely used as a measure of accuracy of diagnostic tests and can be summarised using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Often, it is useful to construct a confidence interval for the AUC; however, because there are a number of different proposed methods to measure variance of the AUC, there are thus many different resulting methods for constructing these intervals. In this article, we compare different methods of constructing Wald‐type confidence interval in the presence of missing data where the missingness mechanism is ignorable. We find that constructing confidence intervals using multiple …
Newforms With Rational Coefficients, David P. Roberts
Newforms With Rational Coefficients, David P. Roberts

We consider the set of classical newforms with rational coefficients and no complex multiplication. We study the distribution of quadratic twist-classes of these forms with respect to weight k and minimal level N. We conjecture that for each weight k ≥ 6, there are only finitely many classes. In large weights, we make this conjecture effective: in weights 18 ≤ k ≤ 24, all classes have N ≤ 30; in weights 26 ≤ k ≤ 50, all classes have N ∈ {2,6}; and in weights k ≥ 52, there are no classes at all. We study some of the …
