Special Values Of Ibukiyama-Saito L-Functions, Brad Isaacson

Following the method of Arakawa, we express the special values of an L-function originally introduced by Arakawa and Hashimoto and later generalized by Ibukiyama and Saito at non-positive integers by finite sums of products of Bernoulli polynomials. As a corollary, we prove an infinite family of identities expressing finite sums of products of Bernoulli polynomials by generalized Bernoulli numbers.

This paper is a combination of the discussion of two nineteenth century theoretical giants Lars Onsager and C. M. Sliepcevich, their works in general, and specifically the famous reciprocal relations of Onsager with respect to irreversible thermodynamics. Emphasis is placed on their penetrating depth and breadth of analysis so inherently necessary in their problem-solving endeavors. This paper presents the findings of a case study that investigated international university students’ expectations and experiences of information literacy across two countries. The results from this case study provide insights that can be utilized by librarians working with international students, to plan and develop their information literacy instruction classes and programs. Armed with an awareness of what international students’ expectations and experiences with information literacy programs are, librarians can develop more meaningful instruction that better meets the information needs of international students. This thesis will study the various roles that quasi-Gorenstein modules and their properties play in the study of homological dimensions and linkage of modules. To that effect we begin by studying these modules in their own right. An R-module M of grade g will be quasi-Gorenstein if ExtiR(M, R) = 0 for i 6= g and there is an isomorphism M ∼= ExtgR(M, R). Chip-firing games and divisor theory on finite, connected, undirected and unweighted graphs have been studied as analogs of divisor theory on Riemann Surfaces. As part of this theory, a version of the one-dimensional Riemann-Roch theorem was introduced for graphs by Matt Baker in 2007. Properties of algebraic curves that have been studied can be applied to study graphs by means of the divisor theory of graphs. Linear Stability Analysis With Solution Patterns Due To Varying Thermal Diffusivity For A Convective Flow In A Porous Medium, Dambaru Bhatta

Here we investigate the effect of the vertical rate of change in thermal diffusivity due to a hydrothermal convective flow in a horizontal porous medium. The continuity equation, the heat equation and the momentum-Darcy equation constitute the governing system for the flow in a porous medium. Assuming a vertically varying basic state, we derive the linear system and from this linear system, we compute the critical Rayleigh and wave numbers. Using fourth-order Runge-Kutta and shooting methods, we obtain the marginal stability curves and linear solutions to analyze the solution pattern for different diffusivity parameters.

My intention in this portfolio is to present my approach to teaching an upper-level mathematics course for pre-service secondary level mathematics teachers. Several teaching strategies are discussed in the context of designing a coherent approach to this course, which emphasizes the need for conceptual reasoning above all other goals. These strategies are evaluated and assessed in connection to the learning outcomes using samples of student work from the course.

Spatial uncertainty modelling and prediction of a set of regionalized dependent variables from various sample spaces (e.g. continuous and categorical) is a common challenge for geoscience modellers and many geoscience applications such as evaluation of mineral resources, characterization of oil reservoirs or hydrology of groundwater. To consider the complex statistical and spatial relationships, categorical data such as rock types, soil types, alteration units, and continental crustal blocks should be modelled jointly with other continuous attributes (e.g. porosity, permeability, seismic velocity, mineral and geochemical compositions or pollutant concentration). This paper provides a Fliess operator representation for a class of continuous-time Markov jump nonlinear systems. This representation allows one to describe the parallel sum and product interconnections of such systems. The paper concludes by showing that all parallel interconnections preserves rationality when the component operators have rational generating series.

Although morphology-dependent resonances (MDRs) have been studied for decades, it is interesting to note that TM resonances have not been as widely investigated as those of the TE mode. Nevertheless, the formers are also worthy of additional study. Even though the TE and TM mode resonances can be generated using the same technique, their properties (such as the additional sharp peak in the source function at the particle surface) are quite distinct.
