UMLS::Association - A Semantic Association Framework for Biomedical Texts
Keith Herbert
Natural Language Processing Lab, Department of Computer Science
Introduction
We present UMLS::Association, a software package to explore the semantic association of biomedical terms with applications for literature-based discovery. Literature-based discovery is an endeavour to ”connect the dots” for scientists between the topics of their research and those of unexpected relevance. However, many approaches rely on the exact wording for the ideas in the research papers being analyzed. The Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) provides a way to map natural language phrases in these papers to sequences of abstract yet …
G-Cpt Symmetry Of Quantum Emergence And Submergence -- An Information Conservational Multiagent Cellular Automata Unification Of Cpt Symmetry And Cp Violation For Equilibrium-Based Many-World Causal Analysis Of Quantum Coherence And Decoherence, Wen-Ran Zhang
Computer Science: Faculty Publications
An equilibrium-based YinYang bipolar dynamic Generalization of CPT (G -CPT) symmetry is introduced based on energy/information conservational quantum emergence-submergence. As a bottleneck of quantum computing, quantum decoherence or collapse has been plaguing quantum mechanics for decades. It is suggested that the crux of the problem can trace its origin back to the incompleteness of CPT symmetry due to the lack of holistic representation for equilibrium-based bipolar coexistence. In this work, the notion of quantum emergence-submergence is coined as two opposite processes with bipolar energy/information conservation. The new notion leads to G-CPT symmetry supported by a Bipolar Quantum Cellular Automata (BQCA) …
Novel Machine Learning Methods For Modeling Time-To-Event Data, Bhanukiran Vinzamuri
Novel Machine Learning Methods For Modeling Time-To-Event Data, Bhanukiran Vinzamuri
Wayne State University Dissertations
Predicting time-to-event from longitudinal data where different events occur at different time points is an extremely important problem in several domains such as healthcare, economics, social networks and seismology, to name a few. A unique challenge in this problem involves building predictive models from right censored data (also called as survival data). This is a phenomenon where instances whose event of interest are not yet observed within a given observation time window and are considered to be right censored. Effective models for predicting time-to-event labels from such right censored data with good accuracy can have a significant impact in these …

approaches which in many cases are multi-disciplinary, covering more than one of
these fields to provide solution for one or more of them. On the other hand, the
expansion of the Web with Web 2.0, gave researchers many new tools to extend
approaches to help users …
On The Limits And Practice Of Automatically Designing Self-Stabilization, Alex Klinkhamer
On The Limits And Practice Of Automatically Designing Self-Stabilization, Alex Klinkhamer
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
A protocol is said to be self-stabilizing when the distributed system executing it is guaranteed to recover from any fault that does not cause permanent damage. Designing such protocols is hard since they must recover from all possible states, therefore we investigate how feasible it is to synthesize them automatically. We show that synthesizing stabilization on a fixed topology is NP-complete in the number of system states. When a solution is found, we further show that verifying its correctness on a general topology (with any number of processes) is undecidable, even for very simple unidirectional rings. Despite these negative results, …

Global Data Association For Multiple Pedestrian Tracking, Afshin Dehghan
Global Data Association For Multiple Pedestrian Tracking, Afshin Dehghan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Multi-object tracking is one of the fundamental problems in computer vision. Almost all multi-object tracking systems consist of two main components; detection and data association. In the detection step, object hypotheses are generated in each frame of a sequence. Later, detections that belong to the same target are linked together to form final trajectories. The latter step is called data association. There are several challenges that render this problem difficult, such as occlusion, background clutter and pose changes. This dissertation aims to address these challenges by tackling the data association component of tracking and contributes three novel methods for solving …
