Each animations communication ability was measured subjectively and objectively. Subjective measures in the form of pairwise comparisons were used to calculate normalized preference ratings for each animation. objective measures included problem identification accuracy and problem time. Subjective results indicated that moving …

An Algorithmic Palette Tool, Gary R. Greenfield Feb 1994

An Algorithmic Palette Tool, Gary R. Greenfield

Department of Math & Statistics Technical Report Series

Our algorithmic tool follows the model of RGB percentage curves, but now the control of these curves is though algorithms that indirectly, and more abstractly, create, evolve, and modify such curves. To fully explain our methods we must first introduce the topic "mutating expressions." This is done in Section Two. In Section Three we document the user-interface problems we dealt with, and finally in Section Four discuss conclusions and suggest ideas for future exploration. Before commencing with the technical details however, we wish to emphasize the nature of the "colorization" problem that led to the conception and development of our …

Visual Graphic Knowledge Management Methodology, Jih-Shih Hsu Jul 1992

Visual Graphic Knowledge Management Methodology, Jih-Shih Hsu

Computer Science Theses & Dissertations

As computer technology evolves, graphic workstations are becoming more popular. They support more friendly user interfaces than do conventional terminals. The better user interfaces require more effort to develop. Therefore, many user interface (UI) design systems have been developed to facilitate the creation of modern user interfaces, but not very successfully. Many of them either provide limited features or are difficult to use. Besides, these UI design systems are actually like black boxes to their users because the underlying technology is opaque; their users cannot learn how to utilize the underlying window systems through user interface design sessions. In a …
