The Electrodeposition Of Chromium And Iron Alloy, Duane J. Windau
The Electrodeposition Of Chromium And Iron Alloy, Duane J. Windau
Bachelors’ Theses
The plating of stainless steel, or more correctly, the plating of iron chromium alloys is among the recent projects undertaken by the steel industry to improve its products. Publications on this industrial endeavor are few, although undoubtedly there is considerable work going on. The reason for the sudden interest in stainless steel may be traced to the interesting and valuable properties of chromium steels and especially the stainless steels. However, articles made entirely of stainless steel are expensive and therefore cheaper substitutes have been considered, names the plating of a base metal with chrom-iron alloys. This project will be of …
Substitution Of Hydrofluoric Acid For Sulphuric Acid In Chromium Plating, Leonard Schulze
Substitution Of Hydrofluoric Acid For Sulphuric Acid In Chromium Plating, Leonard Schulze
Bachelors’ Theses
Chromium plating or the electrodeposition of chromium from chromic acid baths has been an accomplished fact for almost a century. However, it has not been until the last few years that considerable attributive information has been published to make the mechanism of the process sufficiently understood to permit its commercial operation.1 Most of the scientific information published on chromium plating thus far is general there being very little specific information revealed as yet. Material, as shall be referred to occasionally, may be read about its early successful applications stressing the unusual properties, advantages, interests, and activities but very little …
A Study Of The Plating Prohibitive Properties Of Various Separators, Bruno J. Pozorski
A Study Of The Plating Prohibitive Properties Of Various Separators, Bruno J. Pozorski
Bachelors’ Theses
The problem of this thesis is to study the plating prohibitive properties of the various materials commonly used in the manufacturing of separators, and to indicate which material would be most serviceable and feasible in a separator. At one time positives and negatives were kept not more than 0.25 inches apart, with the idea of reducing the intervening layers of electrolyte, and, therefore, the internal resistance of the cell, as much as possible. It was, however, found that the output could actually be increased by putting the plates at greater distances, the fact being that the larger bulk of solution …
Hardness And Porosity In Chromium Plating, Waldemar Wick
Hardness And Porosity In Chromium Plating, Waldemar Wick
Bachelors’ Theses
In recent years chromium plating has been subjected to much research due to its ever-increasing demand. The results of these investigations have demonstrated the valuable properties of this plate. Of its many advantageous properties, hardness is one of the outstanding ones, but its application in industry is as yet not fully realized. This being due to the fact that it is difficult to produce a plate that is uniform and does not chip. Many chemists have investigated the porosity of the chromium plate in order to produce a coating that could be used for protective purposes, but there seems to …

A Study Of Gel Formation In Kerosene In Contact With Sodium, Jerome M. Weller
A Study Of Gel Formation In Kerosene In Contact With Sodium, Jerome M. Weller
Bachelors’ Theses
The origin of the problem to be considered in this paper is traced to the observations of John R. Koob, Ph.D., Head of the Chemistry Department of Marquette University. It was his experience to note that the kerosene, in a bottle, containing cut sodium for the organic laboratory, had solidified to a gel, resembling Vaseline in appearance.
The Study Of The Effects Of Different Metallic Soaps On The Water Content Of Water-In-Gasoline Emulsions, Lynn D. Wilson
The Study Of The Effects Of Different Metallic Soaps On The Water Content Of Water-In-Gasoline Emulsions, Lynn D. Wilson
Bachelors’ Theses
The study of emulsions and emulsification is of very great theoretical and practical interest. From the standpoint of pure science it throws much light on the problems of surface tension, surface concentration, absorption, surface films, electrical double layers. Brownian movement, and the general theory of disperse systems and colloids. It is also of importance in biological science, e.g., the adsorption of fats and the permeability of membranes. When industrial and applied science are considered, it is remarkable how many subjects of interest and importance are dependent on a knowledge of the formation, behavior, and stability of emulsions. In this connection, …
