Determination Of The Traits In Leguminous Crops Under Saline Condition, Tojiddin Kuliev, Karomat Ismailova
Karakalpak Scientific Journal
In this study, the variability and determination of genetic traits for winter legume crop varieties the Vostok-55 (Pisum arvense L) and Mirzachul-1 (Vicia villoza Roth L) were investigated under moderate saline soil condition. Results show that the weight of the bean was marked as variable and highly deterministic, and the height of the plants was the most stable. The selection of plants based on these traits is the most effective way of salinity. Both variety the forage pea Vostok-55 and vetch Mirzachul-1 is highly recommended as a sideration and forage crop in saline lands.

Influence Of Laterial State Of Pair Impurity Complex On Recombination Processes In Semiconductors, L Yu Leyderman, R A. Ayukhanov, Abat Uteniyazov, E S. Esenbaeva, Sh X. Annayeva
Karakalpak Scientific Journal
The paper analyzes the question of the possible influence of the lateral state of a paired impurity complex on the recombination processes. It is shown that the lateral state of the paired impurity complex does not affect the recombination processes of nonequilibrium carriers - they go through that component of the impurity complex that exchanges carriers with both bands (in this particular case, through the component). The second component of the complex () can apparently play some role in the processes of carrier attachment.

Lantana camara L. (L. camara) is a perennial shrub that contains low amounts of alkaloids. In the present study, the magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were used to isolate positively charged alkaloids from the methanolic extract of L. camara leaves. The crude alkaloid was fractionated using HPLC to separate the highest peak of the alkaloid fraction (HPAF). The crude alkaloids (CA) and HPAF were tested for their antiproliferative effect against cancer cell lines (MCF-7, HCT-116, and HeLa) and endothelial cells line (EA.hy926) as a standard cell line. Antiangiogenic properties were examined using rat aortic ring assay. …

Mach-Zehnder Quantum Interference Rules In Hydrocarbons With Substituents, Alaa Al-Jobory, Zainelabideen Y. Mijbil
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
We have investigated the conditions of quantum interferences in hydrocarbons with substituents using density functional theory and tight binding approximation combined with non-equilibrium Green’s function technique. The chosen model systems, namely benzene and tripyridyl–triazine molecules, have elucidated three prominent rules. The ‘first rule’ is the occurrence of inevitable, destructive quantum interference when 1,3-benzene ring incorporates single substituent at the fifth site. The ‘second rule’ is the chaotic occurrence of quantum interferences due the position and/or type of the substituents. The ‘third rule’: the substituents decrease (increase) the probability of destructive (constructive) interferences

Abstract
In this study, Natural Bonding Orbitals (NBOs) were applied to isatin, 5‑fluoroisatin, 5‑chloroisatin, 5‑methylisatin and 5‑methoxyisatin using the Lee-Yang-Parr correlation functional B3LYP with 6‑311++G(2d,2p) basis set. Natural bonding analysis was performed to consider the transfer interactions of intra-molecular charge, pre-hybridization and electron density within the isatin, 5‑fluoroisatin, 5‑chloroisatin, 5‑methylisatin and 5‑methoxyisatin. In natural bonding orbital analysis, the wave functions of the electrons were explicated in sets of occupied Lewis type terms, (bonds or lone pairs) and sets of unoccupied non‑Lewis (anti‑bond and Rydberg) localized natural bonding orbitals. The electron density between these orbitals was correlated to stabilize the interaction …

Over 1 billion people worldwide are affected by Neglected Topical Diseases (NTDs). This group of pathogens encapsulates viruses, bacteria and parasites, and disproportionately affects the world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) is an NTD caused by a parasitic nematode infection. The larvae of these filarial nematode worms are transmitted via mosquito bites and disrupt the functioning of the infected individual’s lymphatic system. LF can be caused by three types of filarial worms, Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi and Brugia timori, which are transmitted by the Culex, Anopheles and Aedes mosquito families. Symptomatic …

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Cryptococcus neoformans is a globally distributed opportunistic fungal pathogen and the causative agent of life threatening cryptococcal meningoencephalitis in immunocompromised individuals, resulting in ~180,000 deaths each year worldwide. A primary virulence-associated trait of this organism is the production of melanin. Melanins are a class of diverse pigments produced via the oxidation and polymerization of aromatic ring compounds that have a characteristically complex, heterogenous, and amorphous structure. They are synthesized by representatives of all biological kingdoms and share a multitude of remarkable properties such as the ability to absorb ultraviolet (UV) light and protect against ionizing radiation. Melanin production in fungi …
The Effect Of Alcalase Concentration On The Proteins From The Shells Of Litopenaeus Setiferus (White Shrimp), Liam T. Quan
The Effect Of Alcalase Concentration On The Proteins From The Shells Of Litopenaeus Setiferus (White Shrimp), Liam T. Quan
Journal of the South Carolina Academy of Science
Chitin is a naturally abundant polymer that also happens to be biodegradable. Chitin can be used in a variety of different products such as biodegradable plastics, papers, medical products, foods, and medical treatments. To extract chitin, shells must be demineralized and deproteinized. The goal of this experiment was to examine the effect of the protease Alcalase in the deproteinization of litopenaeus setiferus shells. The hypothesis was that if the concentration of Alcalase increased, then the absorbance of proteins in the spectrophotometer reading would increase. The null hypothesis was that if the concentration increased there would be no change in absorption. …

The Kv11.1 voltage-gated potassium channel, encoded by the KCNH2 gene, conducts the rapidly activating delayed rectifier current in the heart. KCNH2 pre-mRNA undergoes alternative polyadenylation to generate two C-terminal Kv11.1 isoforms in the heart. Utilization of a poly(A) signal in exon 15 produces the full-length, functional Kv11.1a isoform, while intron 9 polyadenylation generates the C-terminally truncated, nonfunctional Kv11.1a-USO isoform. The relative expression of Kv11.1a and Kv11.1a-USO isoforms plays an important role in the regulation of Kv11.1 channel function. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that the RNA polyadenylate binding protein nuclear 1 (PABPN1) interacts with a unique 22 nt …

Synthetic Pathways For Potential Platinum 1,10-Phenanthroline Compounds, Jacob Young
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
There are extremely important uses for platinum when it comes to the treatment of cancers and dementias. One potential therapeutic combines platinum with a structure known as phenanthroline. This platinum phenanthroline structure is normally extremely water-insoluble, rendering it difficult to study and use in biological systems. The Williams’ Biochemistry Laboratory endeavored to find a simpler synthetic pathway for a water-soluble phenanthroline product. While unsuccessful in identifying a product as of yet, many synthetic pathways have been ruled out, and more hypothetical pathways are being formulated for testing.
Among the strategies analyzed are varying solvent, reagents, apparatus, methodology, and temperature in …

In the United States, municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills remain a potential mining source of recoverable materials, including but not limited to critical, precious, and rare earth metals found in electronic waste. This is possible due to collectible leachate that filters through MSW landfills, carrying metals, nutrients of value, and microbes—some of which may hold key metal bioleaching properties—within. The purpose of this study is to begin analyzing leachate from MSW landfills in the American Midwest to understand the composition of microbial communities within these landfills. Landfill leachate samples sourced in northern Indiana, representing the landfill process during unique times …

Identification Of Compounds Causing Cellular Autofluorescence In Touch Samples, Elora C. Wall
Master of Science in Forensic Science Directed Research Projects
As DNA analysis has advanced and produced tests with higher sensitivities, attention has turned toward obtaining DNA profiles from cells left with fingermarks. Recent studies have reported that cells deposited within fingermarks can exhibit differences in autofluorescence emission in the ‘red’ region of the visible spectrum (e.g., between 650-670 nm), which can be used to differentiate contributor cell population and separate them before DNA profiles. Interestingly, this emission was not consistent to the individual day-to-day and likely not a genetically-controlled attribute of the contributor. Instead, this emission signature results from extended exposure of the skin to certain materials such as …

Otolith Age Validation And Microchemical Investigation Of The Northern Stock F Atlantic Black Sea Bass (Centropristis Striata), Elise R. Koob
Graduate Masters Theses
Black sea bass (Centropristis striata) is a demersal marine species that supports extensive commercial and recreational fisheries along the Atlantic coast. A recent expansion into the Gulf of Maine raises questions about this species’ movement and population dynamics in the region. Additionally, the 2016 catch-at-age stock assessment model for the northern stock incorporated a population split at the Hudson Canyon. Though this model better accounts for differences in populations, several issues remain. First, validation of the otolith ageing technique for this stock is incomplete; and, second, the origin of fish that moved into the northern ranges of the Gulf of …

Population Genetics Of Rhizophora Apiculata In Peninsular Malaysia Using Microsatellite Markers, Amelia Azman
Student Works (2020-2029)
Rampant illegal logging, overharvesting and deforestation coupled with climate change, pose significant threats to the natural stands of Rhizophora apiculata, or locally known as Bakau Minyak; one of the most economically and ecologically important species of mangroves in Peninsular Malaysia. Despite being a dominant mangrove species, the reduction in the number of R. apiculata in its habitat has resulted in concerns over the long-term survival potential of the species. In Malaysia, genetic information to develop effective guidelines for the conservation and management of mangrove species has been lacking, and hence, further research should be conducted to fill this gap. The …

The patient's experience is a lens for services assessment that provide from healthcare institutions because the patient is the first and the last recipient for the service. The patient's experience carries a lot of uncertainty and an ultimate decision cannot be taken from the patient about the services, but it carries the partial truth. Many artificial intelligence technologies deal with the concept of partial truth, such as genetic algorithms and neural networks, but the fuzzy logic remains pioneering to deal with uncertainty. This paper aims to develop an assessment model by using fuzzy inference that is able to assess the …

Cyclin-dependent kinase 8 (CDK8) and its regulatory partner Cyclin C (CycC) play conserved roles in modulating RNA polymerase II (Pol II)-dependent gene expression. To understand the structure and function relations of CDK8, we analyzed the structures of human and Drosophila CDK8 proteins using molecular dynamics simulations, combined with functional analyses in Drosophila. Specifically, we evaluated the structural differences between hCDK8 and dCDK8 to predict the effects of the LXXLL motif mutation (AQKAA), the P154L mutations, and drug binding on local structures of the CDK8 proteins. First, we have observed that both the LXXLL motif and the kinase activity of CDK8 …
