Fluctuations Of Charge Separation Perpendicular To The Event Plane And Local Parity Violation In √ˢᴺᴺ = 200 Gev Au + Au Collisions At The Bnl Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, L. Adamczyk, J. K. Adkins, G. Agakishiev, S. Bültmann, M. Zyzak, Star Collaboration
Physics Faculty Publications
Previous experimental results based on data (~ 15 x 106 events) collected by the STAR detector at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider suggest event-by-event charge-separation fluctuations perpendicular to the event plane in noncentral heavy-ion collisions. Here we present the correlator previously used split into its two component parts to reveal correlations parallel and perpendicular to the event plane. The results are from a high-statistics 200-GeV Au + Au collisions data set (57 x 106 events) collected by the STAR experiment. We explicitly count units of charge separation from which we find clear evidence for more charge-separation fluctuations …

Jet-medium interactions are studied via a multihadron correlation technique ( called "2 + 1"), where a pair of back-to-back hadron triggers with large transverse momentum is used as a proxy for a di-jet. This work extends the previous analysis for nearly symmetric trigger pairs with the highest momentum threshold of trigger hadron of 5 GeV/c with the new calorimeter-based triggers with energy thresholds of up to 10 GeV and above. The distributions of associated hadrons are studied in terms of correlation shapes and per-trigger yields on each trigger side. In contrast with di-hadron correlation results with single triggers, the associated …

Measurements of the elliptic flow, υ2, of identified hadrons (π±, , K±, , KOs, p, p¯, ɸ, Λ, Λ¯, Ξ-, Ξ¯+, Ω-, Ω¯+ in Au + Au collisions at √ˢᴺᴺ = 7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, 39, and 62.4 GeV are presented. The measurements were done at midrapidity using the time-projection chamber and the time-of-flight detectors of the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC experiment during the beam-energy scan program at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. A significant difference in the υ2 values for particles and the corresponding antiparticles was observed at all transverse momenta for …
Multipole Field Effects For The Superconducting Parallel-Bar/Rf-Dipole Deflecting/Crabbing Cavities, S. U. De Silva, J. R. Delayen
Multipole Field Effects For The Superconducting Parallel-Bar/Rf-Dipole Deflecting/Crabbing Cavities, S. U. De Silva, J. R. Delayen
Physics Faculty Publications
The superconducting parallel-bar deflecting/crabbing cavity is currently being considered as one of the design options in rf separation for the Jefferson Lab 12 GeV upgrade and for the crabbing cavity for the proposed LHC luminosity upgrade. Knowledge of multipole field effects is important for accurate beam dynamics study of rf structures. The multipole components can be accurately determined numerically using the electromagnetic surface field data in the rf structure. This paper discusses the detailed analysis of those components for the fundamental deflecting/crabbing mode and higher order modes in the parallel-bar deflecting/crabbing cavity.

Geometry Effects On Multipole Components And Beam Optics In High-Velocity Multi-Spoke Cavities, C. S. Hopper, K. Deitrick, J. R. Delayen
Physics Faculty Publications
Velocity-of-light, multi-spoke cavities are being proposed to accelerate electrons in a compact light-source [1]. There are strict requirements on the beam quality which require that the linac have only small non-uniformities in the accelerating field. Beam dynamics simulations have uncovered varying levels of focusing and defocusing in the proposed cavities, which is dependent on the geometry of the spoke in the vicinity of the beam path. Here we present results for the influence different spoke geometries have on the multipole components of the accelerating field and how these components, in turn, impact the simulated beam properties.

The proposed LHC high luminosity upgrade requires two crabbing systems in increasing the peak luminosity, operating both vertically and horizontally at two interaction points of IP1 and IP5. The required system has tight dimensional constraints and needs to achieve higher operational gradients. A proof-of-principle 400 MHz crabbing cavity design has been successfully tested and has proven to be an ideal candidate for the crabbing system. The cylindrical proof-of-principle rf-dipole design has been adapted in to a square shaped design to further meet the dimensional requirements. The new rf-dipole design has been optimized in meeting the requirements in rf-properties, higher order …

The exclusive electroproduction of π + above the resonance region was studied using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Laboratory by scattering a 6GeV continuous electron beam off a hydrogen target. The large acceptance and good resolution of CLAS, together with the high luminosity, allowed us to measure the cross section for the γ * p → nπ + process in 140 (Q 2, x B , t) bins: 0.16 < x B < 0.58, 1.6 GeV2 < Q 2 < 4.5 GeV2 and 0.1 GeV2 < −t < 5.3 GeV2. For most bins, the statistical accuracy is on the order of a …

Experimental results on the Σ+(1189) hyperon transverse polarization in photoproduction on a hydrogen target using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory are presented. The Σ+(1189) was reconstructed in the exclusive reaction γ+p→K0S+Σ+(1189) via the Σ+→pπ0 decay mode. The K0S was reconstructed in the invariant mass of two oppositely charged pions with the π0 identified in the missing mass of the detected pπ+π− final state. Experimental data were collected in the photon energy range Eγ=1.0 –3.5 GeV (√s range 1.66–2.73 GeV). We observe a large negative polarization …
Rapidity Evolution Of Wilson Lines At The Next-To-Leading Order, Ian Balitsky, Giovanni A. Chirilli
Rapidity Evolution Of Wilson Lines At The Next-To-Leading Order, Ian Balitsky, Giovanni A. Chirilli
Physics Faculty Publications
At high energies, particles move very fast, so the proper degrees of freedom for the fast gluons moving along the straight lines are Wilson-line operators—infinite gauge factors ordered along the line. In the framework of operator expansion in Wilson lines, the energy dependence of the amplitudes is determined by the rapidity evolution of Wilson lines. We present the next-to-leading order hierarchy of the evolution equations for Wilson-line operators.

Photon Impact Factor And 𝑘T Factorization For Dis In The Next-To-Leading Order, Ian Balitsky, Giovanni A. Chirilli
Physics Faculty Publications
The photon impact factor for the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov pomeron is calculated in the next-to-leading order approximation using the operator expansion in Wilson lines. The result is represented as a next-to-leading order 𝑘T-factorization formula for the structure functions of small-𝓍 deep inelastic scattering.

Compact Superconducting Rf-Dipole Cavity Designs For Deflecting And Crabbing Applications, Subashini De Silva, Jean R. Delayen, A. Castilla
Physics Faculty Publications
Over the years the superconducting parallel-bar design has evolved into an rf-dipole cavity with improved properties. The new rf-dipole design is considered for a number of deflecting and crabbing applications. Some of those applications are the 499 MHz rf separator system for the Jefferson Lab 12 GeV upgrade, the 400 MHz crabbing cavity system for the proposed LHC high luminosity upgrade, and the 750 MHz crabbing cavity for the medium energy electron-ion collider in Jefferson Lab. In this paper we present the optimized rf design in terms of rf performance including rf properties, higher order modes (HOM) properties, multipacting, and …

Crab cavities are adapted as the baseline design for the LHC HiLumi upgrade to achieve head-on beam-beam collisions for further improvement in luminosity. A 400- MHz compact RF dipole crab cavity design was developed by a joint effort between Old Dominion University and SLAC under the support of US LARP program. This design has shown very favorable RF parameters and can fit into the available beamline spacing for both vertical and horizontal crabbing schemes. A niobium proof-of-principle cavity based on such a design has been manufactured for vertical test. In addition, there are stringent wakefield requirements that needed to be …

Recent interests in compact deflecting and crabbing structures for future accelerators and colliders have initiated the development of novel rf structures. The superconducting rf-dipole cavity is one of the first compact designs with attractive properties such as high gradients, high shunt impedance, the absence of lower order modes, and widely separated higher order modes. Two rf-dipole cavities at 400 MHz and 499 MHz have been designed, fabricated and tested as proof-of-principle designs of compact deflecting and crabbing cavities for the LHC high luminosity upgrade and Jefferson Lab 12 GeV upgrade. The first rf tests have been performed on the rf-dipole …

A compact electron accelerator suitable for Compton source applications is in design at the Center for Accelerator Science at Old Dominion University and Jefferson Lab. The design includes a KE=1.55 MeV low-emittance, optimized superconducting electron gun; a 23.45 MeV linac with multi-spoke 4.2 K superconducting cavities; and transport that combines magnetic longitudinal bunch compressor and transverse final focus. We report on the initial designs of each element, including end to end simulations with ASTRA and elegant, and expected beam parameters.
Effect Of Vortex Hotspots On The Radio-Frequency Surface Resistance Of Superconductors, A. Gurevich, G. Ciovati
Effect Of Vortex Hotspots On The Radio-Frequency Surface Resistance Of Superconductors, A. Gurevich, G. Ciovati
Physics Faculty Publications
We present detailed experimental and theoretical investigations of hotspots produced by trapped vortex bundles and their effect on the radio-frequency (rf) surface resistance Rs of superconductors at low temperatures. Our measurements of Rs, combined with the temperature mapping and laser scanning of a 2.36-mm-thick Nb plate incorporated into a 3.3-GHz Nb resonator cavity cooled by the superfluid He at 2 K, revealed spatial scales and temperature distributions of hotspots and showed that they can be moved or split by thermal gradients produced by the scanning laser beam. These results, along with the observed hysteretic field dependence of Rs which can …

We propose to use the High Momentum Spectrometer of Hall C combined with a PbWO₄ electromagnetic calorimeter in order to perform high precision measurements of the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) cross section. A wide range of kinematics accessible with an 11 GeV electron beam off an unpolarized proton target will be covered. The azimuthal, energy and helicity dependences of the cross section will all be exploited in order to separate the interference and DVCS² contributions to each of the Fourier moments of the cross section. For each term, its Q² dependence will be measured independently. At the same time, …

The Electron Ion Collider (EIC) will be a next-generation facility for the study of the strong interaction (QCD). JLab's MEIC is designed for high luminosities of up to 10³⁴ cm-² s-¹. This is achieved in part due to an aggressively small beta-star, which imposes stringent requirements on the collider rings' dynamical properties. Additionally, one of the unique features of MEIC is a full-acceptance detector with a dedicated, small-angle, high-resolution detection system, capable of covering a wide range of momenta (and charge-to-mass ratios) with respect to the original ion beam to enable access to new physics. The detector …

We describe our method for deriving the nuclear electromagnetic charge and current operators in chiral perturbation theory, based on time-ordered perturbation theory. We then discuss possible strategies for fixing the relevant low-energy constants, from the magnetic moments of the deuteron and of the trinucleons, and from the radiative np capture cross sections, and identify a scheme which, partly relying on Δ resonance saturation, leads to a reasonable pattern of convergence of the chiral expansion.
