E2/M1 Multipole Mixing Ratios Of Transitions In Erbium Isotopes, Harun Reşi̇t Yazar, İhsan Uluer

Erbium isotopes (Z = 64) lie in the transitional region that occurs at the middle of the range of deformed nuclei. \gamma -ray E2/M1 mixing ratios for selected transitions in ^{166-168}Er are calculated in the proton-neutron interacting boson approximation(IBA-2). The results obtained for ^{166 -168}Er are reasonably in good agreement with the previous experimental and teoretical values.

The interaction of a bulk electron with conducting surfaces is studied by means of the Bohm-Pines transformation in the second quantization formalism. The effective interaction potentials are obtained for the case of one plane and two plane configurations in the form of electron-image electron scattering.

Structural And Magnetic Properties Of Co_{0.6}Znn_{0.4}Mn_{X}Fe_{2 - X}O_{4}, O.M. Hemeda

A series of Co-Zn ferrite samples substituted by Mn were prepared by the usual double sintering ceramic technique. The x-ray diffraction patterns of the samples confirmed the formation of single-phase spinel structure, and x-ray analysis supply data that suggests the cation distribution of the material. The tetrahedral and octahedral radius permits one to calculate the theoretical lattice parameter and the bond lengths Fe-O at A and B sites. The particle size of the given samples was measured from the Scherer equation and a correlation was found between particle size, and structural and magnetic properties. Eigenvalues and eigenfunction of two-boson 2 \times 2 Hamiltonians in the framework of the superalgebra osp(2,1) are determined by presenting a similarity transformation. The Hamiltonians include two bosons and one fermion have been transformed in the form of the one variable differential equations and the conditions for its solvability have been discussed. It is observed that the Hamiltonians of the various physical systems can be written in terms of the generators of the osp(2,1) superalgebra and under some certain conditions their eigenstates can exactly be obtained. The Schrödinger equation with one and two dimensional potentials are solved in the framework of the sl_2(R) Lie algebra. Eigenfunctions of the Schrödinger equation for various asymmetric double-well potentials have been determined and the eigenstates are expressed in terms of the orthogonal polynomials. The solution of the double-well potential in two dimension have been analyzed.

Analysis Of One-Nucleon Transfer Cross-Sections, A. K. A. R. Al-Farra

The angular distributions of ^{26}Mg(^3H,^2H)^{27}Mg and ^{30}Si(^3H,^2H)^{31}Si reactions have been successfully studied using distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) calculations. The optical model potentials are taken to have Woods-Saxon, parity and spin-orbit interactions. The present analysis gives a satisfactory fit to the forward angle data but grossly over estimates the cross-sections in the backward regions. The spin-orbit potential provides the best description of the experimental data and is found to be necessary to account for the large-angle cross sections. The obtained values of the extracted spectroscopic factors are reasonable.

Multiple linear regression models were developed to estimate the monthly average daily global solar radiation using ten parameters during a period of sixteen years (1984 to 1999) for Onne, Nigeria; the extraterrestrial radiation, average daily temperature, ratio of minimum and maximum daily temperature, relative humidity, ratio of sunshine duration, solar declination, average soil temperature, average pan evaporimeter, average rain fall and average daily dew. Fractional derivatives are used to construct the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formulation for non-conservative systems. To clarify the theory of Riewe two interesting examples are given. The potentials are obtained using the Laplace transform operator for fractional derivatives and the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations are constructed for the two systems. Besides, it is shown that the Hamilton equations of motion are in agreement with the Euler-Lagrange equations for these systems.

Self Ionization Probabilities Following De-Excitation Decay Of K-Shell Vacancy In Atoms Z = 10--80, Adel M. El-Shemi

The average number of ejected electrons and the probability of ion charge state distributions following K-shell ionization in atoms from Z = 10 to Z = 80 were calculated. Monte Carlo simulation technique was used to simulate all possible pathways of radiative and non-radiative transitions to fill the inner-shell ionization in excited atoms. The radiative and non-radiative branching ratios were calculated from Multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock (MCDF) and Dirac-Fock-Slater (DFS) wave functions. The average number of ejected electrons in atoms with Z = 10 is about two, because the non-radiative transitions exceed radiative transitions by 98\%. The mean number of ejected electrons …

The rotational constant A_0 for the ground state of CH_3 NC and CH_3 ^{15}NC isotopomers is calculated using a technique which was used earlier for CH_3CCH [9], CH_3CN [10] and SiH_3CCH [11]. This technique is based on calculating the moment of inertia tensors in the bent configuration due to the \nu_8 vibrational state, which is associated with the CNC bending vibration. These values of the moments of inertia are fitted with the values calculated from the rotational constant B_V, found experimentally by measuring the rotational frequencies in the microwave and infrared regions. The ceramic of new perovskite Ba (Cu_{1/2} Mo_{1/2}) O_3 has been synthesized at 1200 °C for 24 hours. The XRD analysis indicates an ordered hexagonal structure, which is attributed to large valency difference between octahedral cations. The IR spectrum reveals the presence of Cu-O-Mo ordered bond. The room temperature relaxation spectra imply a large conductivity term and multiple `Debye terms' at low frequencies. This is attributed to presence of the space charge. The variation of dielectric constant with temperature has been investigated from room temperature to 800 K. The diffusivity constant equal to 1 implies normal ferroelectric behaviour near room …

In this work, we have developed a new low cost radiative substrate heater for deposition of high-T_c superconducting thin films. It has all the features required for the preparation of high quality superconducting thin films. In this study the structure and the magnetic properties of polymer microspheres, filled with magnetite nanoparticles are investigated. Average particle size of magnetite nanoparticles before and after being introduced into polymer microspheres, and the distance between nanoparticles in the polymer microspheres, are measured. Magnetization curve of polymer magnetic microspheres (PMMS) is determined. The magnetic susceptibility of PMMS with various diameters, and the dependence of PMMS magnetic susceptibility on diameter are determined. Ultraviolet Coronograph Spectrometer aboard Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) has revealed the existence of temperature anisotropy of many minor ion species that populate the north solar polar coronal hole. In this study, we examined the propagation characteristics of ion-cyclotron waves which resonate with protons, O VI and Mg X ions. Let X be distributed as matrix normal with mean M and covariance matrix WV, where W and V are nonnegative definite (nnd) matrices. In this paper we present a simple version of the Cochran’s theorem for matrix quadratic forms in X. The theorem is used to characterize the class of nnd matrices W such that the matrix quadratic forms that occur in multivariate analysis of variance are independent and Wishart except for a scale factor. © 2003 Elsevier Inc. The Ordovician Winnipeg Group is composed of three formations; in ascending order, the Black Island Formation, the Icebox Formation, and the Roughlock Formation. The Icebox Formation is largely composed of shale. This work shows that discontinuities and coarser facies exist within the Icebox Formation and that they are traceable throughout the subsurface of North Dakota and eastern Montana. This work also illustrates possible sea-level changes during the deposition of the Icebox Formation along with probable source areas providing detrital sediments into the study area.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between Bmode and colour Doppler technical test methods with the clinical perception of Bmode and Doppler invivo test parameters. The ability to detect flow is the most crucial aspect of an ultrasound (US) system because, if flow cannot be detected, no other aspect of performance matters. The objectives of this study were to validate a Doppler “sensitivity performance index,” a figure of merit, and to determine if it could be used to differentiate colour Doppler sensitivity performance in scanners of varying complexity. The sensitivity performance index was developed to give a combined measure of related aspects of sensitivity, such as the lowest detectable velocity, the vessel size and the penetration depth. Ecological Species Groups Of South Carolina's Jocassee Gorges, Southern Appalachian Mountains, Scott R. Abella, Victor B. Shelburne

Ecological species groups, consisting of assemblages of co-occurring plant species exhibiting similar environmental affinities, were developed for ground-flora and tree strata in late- successional forests on a 13,000 ha southern Appalachian landscape. We distinguished 11 ground-flora groups that included 50 species and six tree groups comprised of 19 species. Ground-flora groups ranged from a xeric Vaccinium group (including Vaccinium pallidum, Euphorbia corollata, and Piptochaetium avenaceum) to a mesic Rhododendron group (typified by Rhododendron maximum, Mitchella repens, and Hexastylis heterophylla). Opuntia humifusa (eastern prickly pear cactus) is listed as potentially threatened in Ohio, and we examined the characteristics of O. humifusa sites in Oak Openings Preserve in northwestern Ohio’s Oak Openings region in an attempt to provide data that may help protect this species. Opuntia humifusa occurrences were associated with loose sands of the xeric Udipsamment Ottokee and Oakville soil series on sites that had been cleared before the 1940s during failed agricultural attempts. Shading by encroaching canopy trees is a threat to several O. humifusa populations in Oak Openings Preserve, and treatments that reduce canopy cover at these sites …

Ground flora is an important response variable to monitor after tree thinning and prescribed burning treatments designed to restore Arizona ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa P.& C. Lawson) forests. This paper reviews published literature on the effects of thinning and burning on ground flora in Arizona ponderosa pine forests in five main categories of research: ground flora biomass, species diversity, plant community composition, population processes, and individual species ecology. Research published to date suggests that thinning and burning generally increase ground flora biomass, whereas other categories of research such as community composition and population processes have been little studied in Arizona …

he technical feasibility and performance of photocatalytic Ti02 coatings in batch-process solar disinfection (SODIS) reactors to improve potability of drinking water in developing countries have been studied. Borosilicate glass and PET plastic SODIS reactors fitted with flexible plastic inserts coated with Ti02 powder were shown to be 2(Jt1o and 25% more effective, respectively, than standard SODIS reactors for the inactivation of E. coli K12. Isopropanol at 100 ppm concentration levels was observed to be completely photodegraded after 24 h continuous exposure to lOG mW/cm2 simulated sunlight in a similar solar photocatalytic disinfector (SPC-DIS) reactor. A biochemically-based model was developed to simulate the growth, development, and metamorphosis of larvae of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas. The model defines larvae in terms of their protein, lipid, carbohydrate, and ash content and includes variation in growth efficiency and egg quality to better simulate cohort population dynamics. Changes in tissue composition occur as the larva grows and in response to the biochemical composition of the food. Analyses of a multidisciplinary data set, collected in continental shelf waters of the Western Antarctic Peninsula (WAP) during austral summer of January 1993, identified a previously unrecognized forcing mechanism that sets up a physical and chemical structure that supports and assures site-specific diatom-dominated communities and enhanced biological production (Prézelin et al., 2000). This forcing is active when the southern boundary of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) flows along the shelf edge, thereby facilitating onshelf bottom intrusions of nutrient-rich Upper Circumpolar Deep Water (UCDW), which then is upwelled or mixed into the upper water column.
