Positronium Formation From Li And Na Atoms By Use Of Pseudopotential, Sultana N. Nahar, J M. Wadehra Dec 1986

Positronium Formation From Li And Na Atoms By Use Of Pseudopotential, Sultana N. Nahar, J M. Wadehra

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Research Publications

The differential and total cross sections for the formation of positronium in its ground state from Li and Na atoms by the impact of intermediate-energy positrons are calculated in the first Born and distorted-wave Born approximations. Hellmann-type pseudopotentials are used to represent the alkali-metal ion cores. The difference in the use of pseudopotentials and the static potential for the core representation for evaluating various rearrangement cross sections is discussed.

Thermal And Structural Stability Of Cosputtered Amorphous TaXCu1-X Alloy Thin Films On Gaas, J.E. Oh, John A. Woollam, K.D. Aylesworth, David J. Sellmyer, J.J. Pouch Dec 1986

Thermal And Structural Stability Of Cosputtered Amorphous TaXCu1-X Alloy Thin Films On Gaas, J.E. Oh, John A. Woollam, K.D. Aylesworth, David J. Sellmyer, J.J. Pouch

David Sellmyer Publications

The thermal and chemical stabilities of amorphous-metal diffusion barrier films are of importance in high-temperature semiconductor device applications. The reaction characteristics of the barrier constituents with the surrounding elements as well as the crystallization temperature determine the thermal stability of an amorphous-alloy diffusion barrier. We report that suitable thin films of Ta-Cu have been prepared over a wide range of compositions, by cosputter deposition onto GaAs and fused-quartz substrates. The amorphous nature and crystallization behavior of the films have been monitored by x-ray diffraction and van der Pauw resistivity measurements. Films were found to be amorphous over the range of ...

Study Of The Effectiveness Of Cost-Estimation Models And Complexity Metrics On Small Projects, Lein-Lein Chen Dec 1986

Study Of The Effectiveness Of Cost-Estimation Models And Complexity Metrics On Small Projects, Lein-Lein Chen

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Software cost overruns and time delay are common occurrences in the software development process. To reduce the occurrences of these problems, software cost estimation models and software complexity metrics measurements are two popular approaches used by the industry.

Most of the related studies are conducted for large scale software projects. In this thesis, we have investigated the effectiveness of three popular cost estimation models and program complexity metrics in so far as their applicability to small scale projects is concerned.

Experiments conducted on the programs collected from FIU and NCR corporation indicate that none of the cost estimation models precisely ...

Ab initio and MNDO calculations have been carried out to evaluate the gas-phase acidities of closed-shell XHn compounds (X= C, N, 0, F, Si, P, S, Cl) and the affinities of silane for the XHn_1- anions. Fourth-order perturbation theory with extended basis sets reproduces the experimental gas-phase acidities to within 2 kcaljmol. Stable pentacoordinated silicon anions are found for X = H, C, N, 0, and F. In contrast, only marginally stable charge-dipole complexes are found for X = Si, S, and Cl.

The Moments Formulation For Determining Eigenvalues Of Physically Important Systems, Robert Morton Williams Dec 1986

The Moments Formulation For Determining Eigenvalues Of Physically Important Systems, Robert Morton Williams

ETD Collection for AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library

A fundamentally new method for determininc’ eigenvalues of linear differential operators is presented. The method involves the application of moments analysis and offers a fast and precise numerical alqorithm for eigenvalue computation, particularly in the strong and intermediate coupling reqimes. The most remarkable feature of this approach is that it provides exponentially converging lower and upper bounds to the eigenvalues. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated by applyinq it to three important problems: the simple harmonic oscillator potential problem, the quantum potential x2 + ƛ2 / 1 + gx2(studied by Lai and Lin in 1982), and the simplified ...

Fapri Trade Model For Feed Grains: Specification, Estimation, And Validation, Aniss Bahrenian, S. Devadoss, William H. Meyers Dec 1986

Fapri Trade Model For Feed Grains: Specification, Estimation, And Validation, Aniss Bahrenian, S. Devadoss, William H. Meyers

CARD Staff Reports

This model was developed to quantify the trade and policy linkages for feed grains among the major importing and exporting regions. It is intended primarily for use in making intermediate-term projections and conducting policy impact analysis. Thus it is a relatively small partial equilibrium model but incorporates the most basic supply, demand, price, and policy variables in the feed grains sector.

On The Glass Transition And Viscosity Of Phosphorus Pentoxide, C. A. Angell, Steve W. Martin Dec 1986

On The Glass Transition And Viscosity Of Phosphorus Pentoxide, C. A. Angell, Steve W. Martin

Steve W. Martin

The calorimetric glass transition temperature Tg for pure anhydrous P2Os melted in sealed Si02 ampules at 1000 “C has been obtained directly for the first time with differential scanning calorimetry, and the increase in heat capacity at Tg has been determined. Tg measured in this way is 57 K higher than the value quoted in the literature, which is probably based on an Arrhenius law extrapolation of viscosity data to 9 = lOI3 P. Combining the high-temperature viscosity data with the common observation that, for oxide glasses, 7 = 10l2 P at the DSC Tg, we find that the P,O, viscosity ...

Auroral E-Region Plasma Waves Andelevated Electron Temperatures, Bela G. Fejer, J. Providakes, D. T. Farley, W. E. Swartz

Bela G. Fejer

We have observed 3-m auroral E region plasma waves with a high-resolution 50-MHz radar interferometer at Ithaca. During postmidnight periods of very strong magnetic activity at Ottawa (L = 3.5), the backscattered power and Doppler spectra vary rapidly with time and range and may have both mean Doppler shifts and half power widths in excess of 200 Hz (600 m/s). In addition, when the radar and magnetometer data imply that the current is approximately parallel to the radar line of sight, sharp spectral peaks corresponding to phase velocities approaching 1 km/s sometimes appear suddenly. These persist for at ...

Magnetic Relaxation In Fe-(Sio2) Granular Films, Gang Xiao, Sy_Hwang Liou, A. Levy, J.N. Taylor, C. L. Chien Dec 1986

Magnetic Relaxation In Fe-(Sio2) Granular Films, Gang Xiao, Sy_Hwang Liou, A. Levy, J.N. Taylor, C. L. Chien

Si-Hwang Liou Publications

Magnetic relaxation of granular Fe-(SiO2) solids with low metal-volume fraction has been studied by employing dc SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) magnetometry and Mössbauer spectroscopy with the characteristic measuring time differing by nine orders of magnitude. The blocking temperatures (TB), extrapolated to zero external field as measured by the two techniques maintain a constant ratio of 0.35 independent of samples. Arrhenius law was found adequate in describing the relaxation process, with a well-defined relaxation-time constant of τ0≃10-13 sec. A cusp in the susceptibility is observed at TB, below which irreversible difference between ...
