This research study aimed to investigate the incidence and characterize antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Salmonella enterica and Escherichia coli isolated from broilers, pigs and their meat products in Thailand–Cambodia border provinces. Resistance to clinically importance antimicrobials was additionally examined in the E. coli isolates from other provinces with high pig production in Thailand. A total of 941 samples were collected from broilers and pigs at slaughterhouses and their carcasses at local fresh markets in Sa Kaeo, Thailand (n=554) and Banteay Meanchey and Siem Reap, Cambodia (n=387) during 2014-2015. Emerging and re-emerging important enteric viruses in pigs including porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) and enterovirus G (EVG) are important pathogens of food security and public health concerns. In Thailand, the information on the occurrences and status of PEDVs, PDCoVs and EVGs is limited. Especially, Thai-EVGs have never been reported before. This thesis composes of three study phases. Evidence has been increasingly suggested that insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is related to steroidogenesis and spermatogenesis. This may be conducive to find the causes of poor sperm quality in Asian elephants (Elephas maximus). The present study aimed to investigate whether correlations among serum IGF-1 concentration, serum testosterone level and semen variables exist in elephants. A total of 17 ejaculates (1–3 ejaculates/bull) were collected by performing transrectal massage. Before each ejaculate, blood samples were obtained (n = 17). การศึกษาความหลากหลายของจีนเคซีนทั้ง 4 ชนิดในฐานะของจีนแคนดิแดท ที่มีผลต่อลักษณะการปริมาณน้ำนมในแพะจำนวน 65 ตัวแบ่งเป็นกลุ่มแพะที่มีบันทึกการให้ผลผลิตแล้วอย่างน้อย 1 ลำดับการให้นมและมีข้อมูลของลูกแพะ จำนวน 26 ตัว และกลุ่มแพะที่ไม่มีบันทึกการให้ผลผลิต จำนวน 35 ตัว จากการตรวจสอบความหลากหลายทางพันธุกรรมของจีนทั้ง 4 ชนิดด้วยวิธี DNA sequencing พบอัลลีลของจีนอัลฟาเอส 1 เคซีนทั้งหมด 3 ชนิด ได้แก่ A, C และ E มีความถี่ของอัลลีล เท่ากับ 0.577, 0.177 และ 0.246 ตามลำดับ มีความถี่จีโนไทป์ของ AA, AC, AE, CC และ EE เท่ากับ 0.292, 0.292, 0.277, 0.031 และ 0.108 ตามลำดับ จีนเบต้าเคซีน พบอัลลีลทั้งหมด 2 ชนิด ได้แก่ A และ F มีความถี่ของอัลลีล เท่ากับ 0.538 และ 0.462 ตามลำดับ มีความถี่จีโนไทป์ของ AA, AF และ FF เท่ากับ 0.246, 0.585 และ 0.169 ตามลำดับ จีนอัลฟาเอส 2 เคซีน พบอัลลีลทั้งหมด 2 ชนิด ได้แก่ A และ B มีความถี่ของอัลลีล เท่ากับ 0.862 และ 0.138 ตามลำดับ มีความถี่จีโนไทป์ของ AA และ AB เท่ากับ 0.723 และ …

ข้อมูลสุกรพันธุ์แท้แลนด์เรซ (Landrace, LR) ลาร์จไวท์ (Large White, LW) ดูรอค (Duroc, DR) และข้อมูลสุกรลูกผสมที่มาจากฟาร์มสุกรเชิงพาณิชย์ จำนวน 158,313 บันทึก เป็นข้อมูลของแม่สุกรที่คลอดในปี 2549 ถึง 2562 ถูกนำมาวิเคราะห์อิทธิพลของปัจจัยคงที่ด้วยวิธี GLM ในโปรแกรม SAS และประมาณค่าองค์ประกอบความแปรปรวนด้วยวิธี average information restricted maximum likelihood (AI - REML) ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พันธุ์สุกรและลำดับอุ้มท้องมีอิทธิพลต่อทุกลักษณะที่ทำการศึกษาอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (P < 0.05) ฝูง - ปี - เดือนที่ผสมพันธุ์มีอิทธิพลต่อระยะเวลาอุ้มท้องของแม่สุกร (gestation length, GL) และจำนวนลูกสุกรแรกเกิดทั้งหมด (total number of piglets born, TB) อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (P < 0.05) ฝูง - ปี - เดือนที่แม่สุกรคลอดลูกมีอิทธิพลต่อจำนวนลูกสุกรเกิดมีชีวิต (number of piglets born alive, BA) จำนวนลูกสุกรตายแรกเกิด (number of stillborn piglets, SB) และน้ำหนักแรกเกิดเฉลี่ยของลูกสุกร (average birth weight, BW) อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (P < 0.05) ค่าอัตราพันธุกรรมของ GL TB BA SB และ BW มีค่าเท่ากับ 0.20 ± 0.00, 0.10 ± 0.00, 0.09 ± 0.00, 0.03 ± 0.00 และ 0.12 ± 0.01 ตามลำดับ ค่าสหสัมพันธ์ทางพันธุกรรมระหว่าง GL กับ TB และ GL กับ BA มีค่าใกล้ศูนย์ (P < 0.05) ไม่พบความสัมพันธ์ทางพันธุกรรมระหว่าง GL กับ SB และ GL กับ BW (P > 0.05) ค่าสหสัมพันธ์ทางพันธุกรรมระหว่าง TB กับ BA มีค่าเท่ากับ 0.99 ± 0.00 ค่าสหสัมพันธ์ทางพันธุกรรมระหว่าง TB กับ SB และ BA กับ SB มีค่าเท่ากับ 0.49 ± 0.05 และ 0.40 ± 0.05 ตามลำดับ และค่าสหสัมพันธ์ทางพันธุกรรมระหว่าง TB กับ BW และ BA กับ BW มีค่าเท่ากับ -0.56 ± 0.03 และ -0.59 ± 0.02 ตามลำดับ แนวโน้มทางพันธุกรรมของ GL มีค่าเพิ่มขึ้น 0.02 ± 0.01 และ 0.03 ± 0.01 วันต่อปี ในสุกรพันธุ์ LR และ LW ตามลำดับ และมีค่าลดลงเท่ากับ -0.02 ± 0.01 วันต่อปี ในสุกรพันธุ์ 50LW …

Actinobacillus suis is considered an opportunistic pathogen in swine that can cause disease in animals of all ages, especially in high health status herds. The objective of this study was to developed an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using boiled whole cell antigen for the detection of antibody against A. suis. The selected herd has clinical problems associated with A. suis infection. A total of 835 fecal samples collected from client-owned and community cats between 2014 and 2016 were subjected to wet fecal smear and/or PBS-ethyl acetate and/or ZnSO4 centrifugal flotation. Ancylostoma spp. was the most common, 28.5%, followed by 6.7% Toxocara spp., 5.3% Cystoisospora spp., 4.4% Platynosomum fastosum, 2.5% Taenia taeniaeformis, 1.7% Strongyloides spp., 1.4% Spirometra spp., 1.3% Dipylidium caninum, 0.1% Eucoleus aerophilus and 0.1% Opisthorchis-like trematode egg. For retroviruses, FeLV and FIV were positive 7.1% (19/269) and 5.2% (14/269), respectively, without association with endoparasitic infection. Influenza A virus causes respiratory disease in many species such as birds, horses, pigs, dogs and cats as well as humans. This thesis consists of 5 phases. Phases 1 was monitoring of canine influenza virus infection in Thailand. Phase 2 was determining the intravenous pathogenicity index of Thai canine influenza virus. Phase 3, 4 and 5 were investigating the pathogenicity of canine influenza viruses in dogs, chickens and guinea pigs, respectivly. Haemosporidioses in domestic chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) are not only widely distribute but causing high mortality and non-specific symptoms. The multiplex PCR assay developed in this study can concurrently detect and differentiate four haemosporidian parasites Leucocytozoon caulleryi, Leucocytozoon sabrazesi, Plasmodium juxtanucleare, and Plasmodium gallinaceum. Comparing to microscopic examination performed in parallel on 157 samples, multiplex PCR assay exhibited significantly higher detection rate in diagnosis of haemosporidians (p = 0.000). A novel multiplex PCR (mPCR) was developed to identify and differentiate malaria parasite (Plasmodium caprae), and two piroplasms (Babesia bigemina and Theileria luwenshuni) in Thai goats. Three pairs of primer were designed to be species-specific, targeting cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene in mitochondria. Plasmids containing each parasite’s DNA was serially diluted to evaluate the sensitivity of singleplex and mPCR assays. Beta-cardiotoxin (ß-CTX), a novel protein isolated from the King cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) venom has previously been proposed as a beta-blocker candidate. However, cellular mechanisms of ß-CTX on cardiomyocyte is unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of ß-CTX on isolated rat cardiomyocyte function and the cardiac myofibrillar activity, and to explore involvement of ß-adrenergic receptor (ß-AR) signaling pathway. ß-CTX was isolated and purified using two-step chromatographic method and confirmed by N-terminal sequencer. Single fixed-time AI is the breeding protocol inseminating the sows once with either fresh or frozen-thawed (FT) semen at fixed time after ovulation induction without estrus detection. To develop the success single fixed-time AI protocol in Thailand, factors affecting the efficacy of single fixed-time AI were evaluated. Degenerative mitral valve disease (DMVD) is the most common acquired cardiac disease in small breed dogs. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a common complication in DMVD that can worsen the clinical signs, cardiac function, and median survival time of DMVD dogs. Conventional therapy of DMVD can reduce systolic pulmonary arterial pressure (sPAP) minimally. Thus, additional therapy is required. Bulk tank milk somatic cell count (BTM SCC) is worldwide acceptable as an indicator of subclinical mastitis and milk quality at the farm level. Several countries determine the BTM SCC level for quality control and milk pricing. In Thailand, BTM SCC standard is set at 500,000 cells/ml and premium milk quality is set at less than 100,000 cells/ml. Milk collecting centers (MCCs) use CMT (California Mastitis Test) for screening raw milk quality. However, CMT has an error and high variation. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is one of the most common myocardial diseases in cats. The left atrial (LA) function plays an essential role in compensatory mechanism of left ventricle with diastolic dysfunction to maintain cardiac output in cats affected with HCM. Nowadays, there are several echocardiographic techniques used to evaluate the left atrial function; however, each technique has limitations. Duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV), an emerging infectious disease in ducks, belongs to the Ntaya virus group of the Flavivirus genus in the Flaviviridae family. The emergence of DTMUV has been observed in layer and breeder duck farms in China since 2010 and in layer and broiler duck farms in Thailand since 2013. Infected ducks show neurologic signs, including an incapability to stand, ataxia, and paralysis. A significant drop in egg production is usually observed among layer ducks. Columnaris disease has been now recognized as one of the most serious infectious diseases in farmed tilapia. The disease is caused by Flavobacterium columnare. Among the prevention and control strategies, vaccination is one of the most effective approach. Feline morbillivirus (FeMV), a relatively new virus, has been discovered in domestic cats and associated with kidney diseases since 2012 in Hong Kong. The FeMV study gained widely attentions in many countries whereas the pathogenesis remains elusive. These studies aimed to provide the FeMV knowledge in Thai domestic cat by performing the genetic-based, serological-based and pathological-based studies of FeMV-infected in Thai cats. Additionally, the indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and rabbit polyclonal antibody against FeMV matrix (FeMV-M) protein was produced for seroprevalence and viral localization by immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques, respectively. To confirm a causative allergen in atopic dogs could test through intradermal skin testing (IDT) or allergen-specific IgE serology testing (ASIS). ASIS is more practical, convenient and safer. However, the results of ASIS could be affected by source and type of allergen. Crude allergen extracts were still used in commercial testing and protein antigens of skin microbes were not included in the panel of testing. Vibrio parahaemolyticus is the leading cause of seafood borne gastroenteritis in many countries including Thailand. It is a gram-negative, halophilic bacterium which was normally found in estuarine environment and seafood. The infection usually occurred from consuming raw, inadequate cooked, or cross-contaminated seafood. Risk assessment is a scientific tool to evaluate health hazard from V. parahaemolyticus infection. In this study, a risk of V. parahaemolyticus infection from raw shrimp consumption (Litopenaeus vannamei) was conducted.
