Combatting Bacterial Infections: The Efficacy Of Poly-Gamma-Glutamic Acid On The Prevention Of Nasopharyngeal Infections Among Individuals With Cleft Lip And Palate, Florence Pun
Scripps Senior Theses
Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is a medical condition where children are born with an unfused lip and palate. While surgery is required to fuse the lip and palate, there are other conditions that children with CLP face after surgeries, such as otitis media (OM), speech impediments, and difficulty breathing. Particularly, OM occurs frequently in individuals with CLP because the tensor veli palatini muscles cannot open the Eustachian tube frequently and ventilate the middle ear properly, even after surgery. This thesis is a research proposal to evaluate whether γ-PGA can be used in nasal washes to safely prevent nasopharyngeal infections …

Effects Of Intermittent Compressive Force On Extracellular Matrix Homeostasis Of Human Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells, Novena Dameria Pakpahan
Effects Of Intermittent Compressive Force On Extracellular Matrix Homeostasis Of Human Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells, Novena Dameria Pakpahan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Background: Mechanical force, caused by orthodontic tooth movement, affects periodontal tissue homeostasis including destruction and formation. For instance, the compression side causes bone resorption while bone formation lines in the tension side. Periodontal ligament cells play roles in modulating periodontal tissue homeostasis as well as regeneration via immunomodulation, proliferation, and migration. Extracellular matrix (ECM) is a cellular microenvironment that aids in cell migration, cell growth, and differentiation and serves as a physical barrier against microorganisms. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) plays a key role in the degradation of ECM, including collagen, gelatines, and casein. The MMP functions can be inhibited by tissue …

This study explored the usability of prompt generation on named entity recognition (NER) tasks and the performance in different settings of the prompt. The prompt generation by GPT-J models was utilized to directly test the gold standard as well as to generate the seed and further fed to the RoBERTa model with the spaCy package. In the direct test, a lower ratio of negative examples with higher numbers of examples in prompt achieved the best results with a F1 score of 0.72. The performance revealed consistency, 0.92-0.97 in the F1 score, in all settings after training with the RoBERTa model. …
