Maxillary And Mandibular Incisor And Molar Dentoalveolar Heights In Untreated Subjects Presenting Class I And Class Ii Malocclusion, Samantha Zavada Cardinal Jul 2023

Maxillary And Mandibular Incisor And Molar Dentoalveolar Heights In Untreated Subjects Presenting Class I And Class Ii Malocclusion, Samantha Zavada Cardinal

Master's Theses (2009 -)

Objective : Class II malocclusion has been extensively studied, however there are many unanswered questions. This study analyzed the difference in incisor and molar dentoalveolar heights of untreated subjects presenting with Class I and Class II malocclusion. Dentialveolar heights are an aspect of the craniofacial complex that changes with growth and development and are manipulated by orthodontists. These changes hold important clinical implications for the development, maintenance and treatment of malocclusions. Methods : A sample of 96 untreated Class I and Class II subjects, with a total of 611 cephalograms was drawn from the archives of the University of Michigan …

Background: Orthodontics has been influenced by new technologies in many areas. There is a shift toward digitization of patient’s information and data. Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of intraoral scanner and extra oral scanners using different dental arch measurements. Materials and Methods: The sample size consisted of 44 dental stone models for patients who finished orthodontic treatment. For each subject two digital models were made, one digital model obtained from extra oral scanner and one digital model obtained from Intra oral scanner. An external examiner measured intermolar width, intercanine width, mesiodistal width of the …

Changes In Lip Length And Strain After En-Masse Retraction With Maximum Anchorage In Female Patients With Bimaxillary Protrusion, Leena Shibl, Amr El-Beialy, Yehya Mostafa, Heba Dehis

Future Dental Journal

Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of en-masse retraction with maximum anchorage on the lip length, lip strain, and interlabial gap in adult female patients with bimaxillary protrusion. Materials and Methods: Thirteen patients underwent initial records including photographs, study casts, and cephalometric x-rays. En-masse retraction was performed using friction mechanics, with the use of temporary anchorage devices and power chains after the extraction of first premolars. The soft tissue was analyzed using lateral cephalometric radiographs before and after retraction. Results: The results showed that en-masse retraction had a significant effect on reducing lip strain, increasing …

Questionnaire Survey On Pain & Mini-Implant Failure In Class Ii Female Patients After Extraction Of Maxillary Second Molars Using Infra Zygomatic Mini Implants, Hosam Abdullah Zaza, Nagwa El Mangoury, Amr El Dakrory, Mostafa El Dawlatly Jun 2023

Questionnaire Survey On Pain & Mini-Implant Failure In Class Ii Female Patients After Extraction Of Maxillary Second Molars Using Infra Zygomatic Mini Implants, Hosam Abdullah Zaza, Nagwa El Mangoury, Amr El Dakrory, Mostafa El Dawlatly

Future Dental Journal

Background: Skeletal anchorage devices have been developed for case requiring absolute anchorage during orthodontic treatment. One of these anchorage devices is the Infra-zygomatic mini-implant type. However, the pain associated with this type of appliance have not been sufficiently evaluated from the patient’s point of view. Aim: The aim of this study was to survey patients for one week after insertion of the infra-zygomatic mini-implants and 1 week following every reactivation in order to evaluate their pain and discomfort as well as the percentage of mini-screw failure. Materials and methods: 10 patients requiring infra-zygomatic mini-implants were selected. All participants completed questionnaires …

Analysis Of Smile Characteristics Of Adult Female Subjects With Skeletal Class Ii Division 2 Malocclusion, Ahmed Ibrahim Nabawi, Fouad A. El Sharaby Jan 2023

Analysis Of Smile Characteristics Of Adult Female Subjects With Skeletal Class Ii Division 2 Malocclusion, Ahmed Ibrahim Nabawi, Fouad A. El Sharaby

Future Dental Journal

Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the smile characteristics of adult females with Angle Class II division 2 malocclusion compared to Angle Class I malocclusion. Materials and Methods: Two frontal photographs were taken for 30 orthodontically untreated female adult subjects with age range (18-30) years, at rest and posed smile from a fixed (1.5m) distance between the camera and the subjects. The 30 subjects were divided into 2 groups, 15 for Class II div 2 subjects and 15 for Class I subjects. The camera was focused only on the mouth, showing from the nose to the chin. …

Motivations Of Adult Patients Seeking Orthodontic Retreatment, Scott V. Philips Jan 2023

Motivations Of Adult Patients Seeking Orthodontic Retreatment, Scott V. Philips

Theses and Dissertations

Objective: The aims of this study were (1) to compare the reasons adult patients seek orthodontic first-time treatment to the reasons adult patients seek orthodontic retreatment, and (2) to compare the concerns, motivations, and satisfaction levels of adult patients seeking orthodontic retreatment across the different previous treatment provider types of orthodontist, general dentist, and Direct-to-Consumer company.

Methods: At their initial orthodontic visit, adult patients (N=108) were invited to participate in the digital survey (REDCap) study. Subjects were recruited from the graduate orthodontics clinic at Virginia Commonwealth University and seven private orthodontic practices across the United States. Visual Analogue Scales were …

A Six-Month Comparison Of Orthodontic Pain Associated With Fixed Edgewise Appliances And Clear Aligners, Victor Chan Jan 2023

A Six-Month Comparison Of Orthodontic Pain Associated With Fixed Edgewise Appliances And Clear Aligners, Victor Chan

Theses and Dissertations

Title: A Six-Month Comparison of Orthodontic Pain Associated with Clear Aligners and Fixed Edgewise Appliances

Objective: To document and compare pain perception, intensity, and analgesic use over a sixmonth period between patients treated with fixed appliances (FA) and clear aligners (CA).

Methods: A prospective, parallel, two-arm, multi-center, longitudinal cohort study was conducted with 87 adults treated with CA (n=59) or FA (n=28). Subjects were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. A seven-item, digital survey was sent at three timepoints (preappointment, 2-days post-appointment, and 7-days post-appointment) at each adjustment over a six-month period. The variables measured included pain experience, pain …

Accuracy Of "Reading" Untraced Lateral Cephalometric Radiographs Among Practicing Orthodontists, Shannon Rea

All ETDs from UAB

Objective: To determine if orthodontic clinicians are able to ascertain diagnostic information from untraced lateral cephalometric radiographs. Materials and Methods: A survey consisting of 5 cases was presented to practicing orthodontists. Each case presented a lateral cephalometric radiograph and included ten questions requiring the respondent to make clinical judgments and approximations of the following variables: skeletal classification, maxilla and mandibular skeletal relationship, SNA, SNB, ANB, vertical skeletal classification, FMA, molar relationship, maxillary incisor proclination, and mandibular incisor proclination. 46 responses were collected and analyzed. Results: Case 3, the normodivergent, Skeletal Class I patient had the highest percentage of correct answers …
