Medicaid Fraud: Medical Students' And Physicians' Attitudes And Perceptions, Kristin M. Byars

Sociology & Criminal Justice Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to determine the attitudes and perceptions of medical students and physicians concerning Medicaid fraud. The primary tool was an anonymous survey distributed to both medical students and physicians in the Hampton Roads area. Previous research suggests that physicians would be more likely to view Medicaid fraud as less serious and less justifiable than medical students would. Since little research looks specifically at the attitudes and perceptions of medical students and physicians two theories, Differential Association and the Theory of Organizational Misconduct, were used because they best fit the research already out there. Religious Attitudes Toward Cloning: A Tale Of Two Creatures, Dena S. Davis

This Essay offers one analytic structure with which to approach the study of religious responses to cloning and suggests that, whereas the negative reactions are tied to a Frankenstein approach--that is, one which uses all the horror of that myth to express our fears about humans getting into the creation business--the more positive reactions express what I will call the Golem approach, based on a lesser-known legend.

These guidelines are the product of five working groups of physicians, administrators, attorneys, ethicists, social workers, nurses, hospital chaplains, and critical care nurses from Wisconsin. Dr. John Stanley, Professor Emeritus, Lawrence University, convened the group in 1994 and they presented this final document to the Wisconsin health care community in October 1998.

These documents are not meant to be strict guidelines to be imposed, but rather resources that present the best thinking and practice at a particular time and place.
