Predicting Risk For Adverse Outcomes Following Distal Radius Fracture, Saurabh Mehta Phd
Predicting Risk For Adverse Outcomes Following Distal Radius Fracture, Saurabh Mehta Phd
Saurabh Mehta
Some individuals remain at risk for adverse outcomes such as chronic wrist/hand pain, falls, and fall-related osteoporotic fractures after distal radius fracture (DRF) remain. This thesis includes five studies that were conducted to establish prediction rules or assessing the risk of these adverse outcomes following DRF. The first manuscript outlines a theoretical framework (RACE - Reducing pain, Activating, Cognitive reshaping, Empowering) for managing the risk of adverse outcomes, mainly chronic pain, in individuals with DRF. The RACE is one of the first frameworks to suggest a risk-based management approach for individuals with DRF. The Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) is a …

West Virginia is ranked second nationally for the percent of its population .65 years of age. The elderly are especially susceptible to falls with fall risk increasing as age increases. Because falls are the number one cause of injury-related morbidity and mortality in the West Virginia elderly, evaluation of fall risk is a critical component of the patient evaluation in the primary care setting. We therefore highlight fall risk assessments that require no specialized equipment or training and can easily be completed at an established office visit. High quality clinical practice guidelines supported by the American Geriatric Society recommend yearly …

Introduction: Hip fractures are a leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide, and the number of hip fractures is expected to rise to over 6 million per year by 2050. The optimal approach for the surgical management of displaced femoral neck fractures remains unknown. Current evidence suggests the use of arthroplasty; however, there is lack of evidence regarding whether patients with displaced femoral neck fractures experience better outcomes with total hip arthroplasty (THA) or hemiarthroplasty (HA). The HEALTH trial compares outcomes following THA versus HA in patients 50 years of age or older with displaced femoral neck fractures. Methods and …

Validation Of A Smartphone Application For Measuring Shoulder Internal Rotation And External Rotation Range Of Motion With Intra-Rater Reliability, Allison B. Smith 2551323
Masters Theses/Capstone Projects
Assessing range of motion of the shoulder girdle is a critical skill needed by athletic trainers due to the complexity of the motions allowed at the joint. The process can be subjective with the majority of accepted techniques utilizing the clinician’s ability to determine bony landmarks of the patient. In recent years, tools have been created to make determining range of motion of the body valid and consistent. One of the most common tools used in the clinic setting to measure shoulder range of motion is the inclinometer. With the current technical age, there have been many smartphone applications created …
