Michigan COVID-19 Outbreak Reports
The Outbreak Data page was obtained from Michigan's COVID-19 data page: https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/stats/outbreak-reporting.
This report is created by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services from data self-reported by local health departments. Data is updated every week.
COVID-19 outbreaks are generally defined as two or more cases with a link by place and time indicating a shared exposure outside of a household. Local health departments report the number of new and ongoing outbreaks they are investigating by the setting of the outbreak. New outbreaks are those outbreaks that were first identified during the current reporting week. Ongoing outbreaks are …

This study examined longitudinal education and career outcomes of the Meharry-Vanderbilt-Tennessee State University Cancer Partnership, the longest-running National Cancer Institute (NCI) Comprehensive Partnerships in Advancing Cancer Health Equity (CPACHE) program site in the United States. Degree completion rates were calculated and progression along the entire postsecondary “pipeline” was quantified for 204 participants recruited between 2011 and 2020. For participants who had entered the workforce, career outcomes were also analyzed. Relative to comparison data, participants completed degrees and progressed through the higher education “pipeline” to earn advanced degrees at remarkably high rates; the majority entered careers in which they support or …

Introduction: Late onset Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, in which almost 70% of patients are women. Hypothesis: We hypothesized that women show worse global FC metrics compared to men, and further hypothesized a sex-specific positive correlation between FC metrics and cognitive scores in women. Methods: We studied cognitively healthy individuals from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative cohort, with resting-state functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Metrics derived from graph theoretical analysis and functional connectomics were used to assess the global/regional sex differences in terms of functional integration and segregation, considering the amyloid status and the contributions of …

The complexity and cost of conventional treatment may not be affordable for a majority of people. Case Summary: Three cases of infertility with an underlying pathology successfully treated with standalone homoeopathic treatment are reported. These cases presented with a structural deformity as a cause of infertility. The patients partners were also given homoeopathic …

Low back pain is the most common symptom experienced by people of all ages. However, low back pain myogenic can cause pain, spasms, muscle weakness, limited range of motion (ROM), and muscle imbalances, resulting in decreased core and lower back muscles, and limited mobility of the lumbar spine, causing a decrease in ability functional. In Indonesia, the prevalence of people affected by myogenic LBP has increased, almost 75% of them are related to work. From the search results with various databases, 75 articles were found which were then filtered and 21 articles were selected. But of the 21 articles, there …

Workers in any industry are at risk for Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs) including office administration workers. This study aims to analyze the interaction of posture with work equipment using the rapid office strain assessment (ROSA) method to assess the ergonomic risk factor. This study found typing is an area requiring ergonomic intervention with chair is more influential (52%) than monitors and other office equipment (48%). Meanwhile other equipment that affects worker posture is mouse and keyboard (62%) compared to telephone and monitor (38%). WMSDs in office administration workers are strongly affected by the chair, mouse and keyboard.

Bronchiectasis is a major chronic disease characterized by infection, inflammation, and permanent dilation of the bronchial walls. Interaction of chronic infection, exacerbation, and inflammation resulting in lung injury. Patients with bronchiectasis have several clinical manifestations of primary bronchiectasis, which is the occurrence of recurrent, chronic infections. In patients with bronchiectasis, mechanical efficiency of breathing leads to decreased rib movement and increased abdominal movement leading to a paradoxical breathing pattern. Treatment goals include achieving symptom control, preventing or reducing exacerbations. Various alternative airway techniques have been used in the physiotherapeutic management of patients with bronchiectasis. Techniques are considered the way to …

Introduction: Dementia is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder that places a significant physical, emotional, and financial burden on patients, their caregivers and society. The global burden of dementia is growing alarmingly greater in the past few decades. There is an evidence base for the effectiveness of homeopathic medicines in certain psychiatric disorders, but literature is scarce on the usefulness of homoeopathy in dementia. Case Summary: A 72-year-old female patient was brought to the psychiatry outpatient unit with symptoms such as sleeplessness, irrelevant talking, irritability, weakness of memory, lack of personal hygiene, and wandering away from home. The case was diagnosed as …

Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a multisystem endocrine disorder which is gradually on a rise due to lifestyle changes and increased stress. Case Summary: A case of 29-year-old female suffering from PCOS showed improvement with homoeopathic treatment. The improvement was evident from the hormonal assays and ultrasonography reports of the patient. This case report suggests that individualised homoeopathic medicines are effective in the treatment of PCOS.

Evidence suggests that diets with high pro-inflammatory potential may play a substantial role in the origin of gastric inflammation. This study aimed to examine the association between the energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index (E-DIITM) and gastric diseases at baseline and after a mean follow-up of 7.4 years in a Korean population. A total of 144,196 participants from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study_Health Examination (KoGES_HEXA) cohort were included. E-DII scores were computed using a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards regression were used to assess the association between the E-DII and gastric disease risk. In …

Reflections On Beam Configuration Optimization For Intensity-Modulated Proton Therapy, Wenhua Cao, Humberto Rocha, Radhe Mohan, Gino Lim, Hadis M Goudarzi, Brígida C Ferreira, Joana M Dias

Presumably, intensity-modulated proton radiotherapy (IMPT) is the most powerful form of proton radiotherapy. In the current state of the art, IMPT beam configurations (i.e. the number of beams and their directions) are, in general, chosen subjectively based on prior experience and practicality. Beam configuration optimization (BCO) for IMPT could, in theory, significantly enhance IMPT's therapeutic potential. However, BCO is complex and highly computer resource-intensive. Some algorithms for BCO have been developed for intensity-modulated photon therapy (IMRT). They are rarely used clinically mainly because the large number of beams typically employed in IMRT renders BCO essentially unnecessary. Moreover, in the newer …
