The high case of hypertension in the elderly requires curative action. One of the efforts to prevent and treat hypertension is by nonpharmacological methods with massage therapy combined with stretching. This research aimed to discover the effectiveness of massage therapy followed by stretching toward the blood pressure of older people with hypertension. Employing a Quasi Experiment design with one group pretest-posttest, the study involved 25 people who had hypertension With 14 of which were selected using specific criteria. The research used Digital Sphygmomanometer to measure blood pressure. The treatment given to the samples was massage therapy for hypertension with the …

The Difference In Transepidermal Water Loss (Tewl) Values Between Sun-Exposed And Non-Sun-Exposed Skin Among Male Medical Students, Ihsany Arafiasetyanto Prihadi, Endra Yustin Ellistasari, Arie Kusumawardani
Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology & Venereology Indonesia
Background: Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL) is the amount of water released from the human body into the atmosphere through a diffusion process per unit of time. Changes in TEWL indicate impaired skin barrier function. Exposure to ultraviolet light for an extended period can cause photoaging, characterized by rough and dry skin (xerosis cutis). TEWL will increase significantly in the skin exposed to ultraviolet radiation. This study aims to determine the difference in the TEWL values among male medical students in the sun-exposed and non-sun-exposed skin areas.
Methods: An analytical observational cross-sectional study was conducted at the Dermatology and …

Introduction. Patients with moderate and severe COVID-19 generally receive antibiotic therapy with consideration of the possibility of co-infection or secondary bacterial infection which clinically is difficult to distinguish from COVID-19 symptoms. Overuse of antibiotics can lead to an increased risk of bacterial resistance to antibiotics which is associated with poor outcomes in COVID-19 patients. This study aimed to assess the effect of early antibiotic administration on mortality in moderate and severe COVID-19 patients. Methods. An observational study with a retrospective cohort design was conducted at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. Data were obtained from medical records of patients admitted from March …

Cervical syndrome is a collection of symptoms, especially pain around the cervical spine. Pain in cervical syndrome is more common in conditions related to the deformity of the cervical vertebrae, one of which is a flat neck or conditions where cervical lordosis is reduced. When the lordosis curve disappears, the vertical load will be redistributed along the anterior portion of the cervical spine, causing pressure on soft tissue and surrounding bone. This can lead to various musculoskeletal problems. The combination of manual therapy and exercise is suggested to reduce problems such as pain, limitations of the range of motion (ROM), …

Despite the advances in medical therapy, heart failure remains a disease that requires attention due to the course of the illness; it can lead to unpredictable, progressive, and fatal conditions. Existing therapy aims to improve the condition and prevent disease progression, with a balanced secondary therapy for various conditions that can trigger acute decompensated heart failure. Advances in technology and therapy may increase the prevalence of patients with heart failure, including prolonging the refractory phase of the disease. There are recommendations for advance care planning to support patient therapy and improve the quality of life of patients with heart failure. …

Introduction. Study reported that malondialdehyde (MDA) levels as an in vivo marker of oxidative stress were increased in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Antioxidants allicin compounds contained in garlic (Allium sativum) are known to have antioxidant activity by inducing antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and inhibiting prooxidant enzymes (nitric oxide synthase, xanthine, NADPH oxidase, and cyclooxygenase). This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Allium sativum to reduce level of MDA serum and improve quality of life in patients with chronic hemodialysis. Methods. This study was a crossover randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial. The subjects were 40 chronic kidney …

Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome, also called as Gorlin Gotz syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the presence of multiple odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) of the jaw, basal cell carcinomas and skeletal anomalies. Presence of multiple OKCs is the first clinical manifestation in majority of the cases. Early diagnosis and treatment are of utmost importance in reducing the severity of this syndrome. We hereby report a rare case of Gorlin Goltz syndrome in a 28 years old female patient who presented with multiple cystic lesions in the jaws. Present case also highlights the clinical, radiographic and histopathologic features of …

Endodontic Management Of An Unusual Mandibular First Molar With Six Canals: A Case Report And Systematic Review, Sarah Ahmad, Syed Mukhtar -Un- Nisar Andrabi, Ashok Kumar, Surendra Kumar Mishra, Rajendra Kumar Tewari
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
The permanent mandibular first molar is frequently involved in conventional root canal treatment due to its function and position in the oral cavity. Additional root canals mandate accurate diagnosis and conservative management to prevent any procedural errors. The first independent middle mesial canal incidence was verified in mandibular molars in 1974, with a global incidence of 10.8–27.0%. Reporting of the middle distal canal in the endodontic literature is scarce, with an incidence of 0.2–3%. The present case report describes the endodontic management of an unusual permanent mandibular first molar with three canals in the mesial and distal roots, diagnosed with …

Apnea ability is the main determining factor of freediving performance. Apnea relates to physiological factors that might be experienced by a free diver hence its ability is highly likely to correlate with various factors of human physiology. One of the suspected factors that affect apnea duration is body fat level. The fact that fat is distributed in almost all parts of the body, including respiratory organs and tracts, arises the suspicion of a possible correlation between fat accumulation and apnea ability. This research studies the correlation between body fat level and apnea duration. 30 males, aged 18-22 were the research …

Exercise can have a physiological effect on the body, including the work system of the heart and lungs. The lungs have an important role in human life, where there is an exchange of oxygen with carbon dioxide through the respiratory process. In terms of health, exercise needs to be done by every human being, because exercise can increase the work of the lung muscles, whereas if the lung muscles work well, the ability to accommodate oxygen or the vital capacity of the human lungs also increases. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of physical exercise on …

This study aims to determine the correlation between nutritional adequacy, Fe content, body fat percentage, and muscle mass percentage with physical fitness in football athletes. Adequacy of nutrients (energy, protein, fat, protein and Fe) was obtained with a 2×24 hour recall. The Fe content value of Fe was measured using the cyanmethemoglobin method and sTfR was measured using the ELWASA method. The percentage of fat and muscle was obtained by using a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis tool. Physical fitness was measured using the ACSPFT (Asian Committee on Standardization of Physical Fitness Test) test which includes long jumps, pull-ups, sit-ups, sprints or …
