Introduction. Major depression criteria can be found in more than 20% of coronary heart patients and more than 30% acute coronary syndrome patients have significant depressive symptoms. Several studies have shown that reduction of hearth rate variability (HRV) and enhancement of neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) can cause enhancement of morbidity and mortality in myocardial infarction patients. On the other hand, depression can cause reduction of HRV, enhancement of NLR and reduction of quality of life. This study aimed to determine differences in HRV, NLR and quality of life between acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients with depressive symptoms and AMI patients …

Despite the advances in medical therapy, heart failure remains a disease that requires attention due to the course of the illness; it can lead to unpredictable, progressive, and fatal conditions. Existing therapy aims to improve the condition and prevent disease progression, with a balanced secondary therapy for various conditions that can trigger acute decompensated heart failure. Advances in technology and therapy may increase the prevalence of patients with heart failure, including prolonging the refractory phase of the disease. There are recommendations for advance care planning to support patient therapy and improve the quality of life of patients with heart failure. …

This personal narrative identifies several challenges for patients, doctors, and researchers posed by rare illnesses and difficult to diagnose/long-term undiagnosed patients. In it, I describe several observations on my experiences as a long-time undiagnosed patient and now as one with multiple rare conditions. Rare conditions are all too often missed in diagnosis or dismissed, and treatment is often significantly delayed, such as it was in my case for nearly two years. Adding rare symptoms into the mix makes the challenges of diagnosis and treatment even greater, and I had some extremely rare symptoms. The only way I was able to …

There is increasing evidence from research studies that suggest patient-centered care has a relationship with good clinical outcomes. In Singapore, there are no studies done to assess and address the issue of patient-centered care and its association with the adolescent’s ability to manage their chronic medical condition, such as Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. The relationship between the patient and clinicians has changed from a paternalistic form to a position which aims to foster patient-centered care. More importantly, this study aims to show the adolescent’s readiness and ability to assume a more mature role in management of their own medical condition. …

Views On The Quality Of Life Of People With Disabilities In The Light Of Their Involvement In Sport Activities, Remigiusz Drozdz
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background: The quality of life of people with disabilities is the result of many factors. Apart from health, functional and mental parameters, it is determined by several social conditions. This approach, however, concerns an objective perspective, apart from which there is also a subjective perspective. This is an internal approach that affects the sense of the quality of life, to a limited extent referring to the quality of life itself. Therefore, it can be assumed that the subjective views on the quality of life will be determined by the location in the social context, an example of which is sport …
