Statement of problem

Two novel restorative materials, a polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) and a resin nanoceramic (RNC), for computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD-CAM) applications have recently become commercially available. Little independent evidence regarding their mechanical properties exists to facilitate material selection.

Purpose

The purpose of this in vitro study was to measure the edge chipping resistance and flexural strength of the PICN and RNC materials and compare them with 2 commonly used feldspathic ceramic (FC) and leucite reinforced glass-ceramic (LRGC) CAD-CAM materials that share the same clinical indications.

For vasodilator stress, myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with at least 12-h caffeine abstinence is recommended, as it attenuates cardiovascular hyperemic response of adenosine and dipyridamole. However, many published conflicting results have shown no significant effect upon perfusion abnormalities in MPI performed without caffeine abstinence. The aim of this study was to compare the hemodynamic changes and negative predictive value (NPV) of normal MPIs with adenosine stress performed with or without caffeine abstinence. Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) is an acute, febrile, contagious disease caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus (IBRV). IBRV vaccine is considered to be partially effective but not yet completely successful. Therefore, establishing a new antiviral approach is critical. RNA interference (RNAi) has been rapidly developed in recent years as an antiviral therapy for several viruses. The present case report describes a 6-year-old, mixed-breed bitch that was referred due to anorexia, polyuria, polydipsia, and lethargy for 2 weeks. The bitch had been spayed 4 years previously at a different clinic. Vaginal inspection by speculum and cytology was not possible because the vaginal canal had been closed surgically. Stump pyometra was suspected upon ultrasonographic and clinical examination. However, the whole uterus and ovaries were observed during surgery. Increasingly, children and adolescents with dyslipidemia qualify for pharmacologic intervention. As they are for adults, 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitors (statins) are the mainstay of pediatric dyslipidemia treatment when lifestyle modifications have failed. Despite the overall success of these drugs, the magnitude of variability in dose-exposure-response profiles contributes to adverse events and treatment failure. In children, the cause of treatment failures remains unclear. This review describes the updated guidelines for screening and management of pediatric dyslipidemia and statin disposition pathway to assist the provider in recognizing scenarios where alterations in dosage may be warranted to meet patients' specific needs.

An increasing number of U.S. military veterans are entering postsecondary education with problems attributed to deployed military service. The primary objective of this research was to describe the lived experiences of student veterans transitioning from active military service to postsecondary education. Phenomenological interviews were performed with 13 student veterans who had transitioned from military deployment to postsecondary education. Introduction: Female sex workers (FSW) have high rates of unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections including HIV, and other adverse sexual and reproductive health outcomes. Few services for FSWs include contraception. This mixed-methods study aimed to determine the rate, predictors and consequences of unintended pregnancy among FSWs in Mombasa, Kenya.

Methods: A prospective cohort study of non-pregnant FSWs was conducted. Quantitative data were collected quarterly, including a structured questionnaire and testing for pregnancy and HIV. Predictors of unintended pregnancy were investigated using multivariate logistic regression. INTRODUCTION: Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is frequently observed after extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) decannulation; however, these issues have not been investigated well in the past.

METHODS: Retrospective chart review was performed to identify post-ECMO SIRS phenomenon, defined by exhibiting 2/3 of the following criteria: fever, leukocytosis, and escalation of vasopressors. The patients were divided into 2 groups: patients with documented infections (Group I) and patients with true SIRS (Group TS) without any evidence of infection. The aim of this research was to characterize differential protein expression in the haemolymph of normal mud crabs and first-stage red sternum mud crabs using gel filtration chromatography on a Sephacryl S-200 chromatography column for protein purification. Ranavirus is one of the causative agents responsible for the rapid decline in amphibian populations worldwide. The objectives of this study were to detect and to genetically characterize ranavirus infection in 36 liver tissues obtained from dead imported zoo amphibians in Thailand. Polymerase chain reaction and molecular phylogenetic analysis was performed based on nucleotide sequences containing major capsid protein gene. Results showed 1 positive sample (~531 bp) from a green tree frog (Litoria caerulea). The virus was highly homologous (98%) and closely related to ranavirus. Our results extend the risk and evidence of ranavirus infection in zoo amphibian in Thailand.

A prospective, randomized, single-blinded study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of disease modifying osteoarthritis agents (DMOAAs) and carprofen by using force plate gait analysis and orthopaedic assessment score (OAS) in osteoarthritic dogs. Forty dogs with hip and/or stifle osteoarthritis (OA) were assigned randomly into four treatment groups: PCSO-524, treated with a marine-based fatty-acid compound; GC-ASU, treated with a combination of glucosamine-chondroitin sulphate and avocado/soybean unsaponifiables; CPF, treated with carprofen; and CPF-PCSO, treated with a combination of carprofen and PCSO-524.
