Homoeopathic medicine has been one of the world′s most widely practiced alternative therapies. However, that the potency of a homoeopathic medicine increases with dilution followed by succussion (together termed as potentization) has thrown challenges to the scientific community at large. A recent hypothesis, advanced by us and others, is that due to the process of potentization, the size of the constituent particles decreases and eventually reaches nanodimension. This decrease in size with increase in potency has been verified by scanning electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering studies. The increase in potency is manifested in its increased effect on membrane fluidity. …

Background: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled Homoeopathic Pathogenetic Trial (HPT) of Nanocurcumin was conducted using the accepted guidelines, Ethical Committee approval, and scientific documentation. AIM This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the modified Simulation Effectiveness Tool (SET) and the SET-M.

BACKGROUND The SET, developed in 2005, was updated to be consistent with INACSL Standards of Best Practice, QSEN practices, and American Association of Colleges of Nursing baccalaureate essentials.

METHOD Undergraduate nursing students from two nursing programs, one with multiple campuses, completed the SET-M following completion of a simulated clinical experience; 1,288 students took part in the study.

Objective:
To describe the clinicopathological spectrum of Lymphangioma Circumscriptum (LC).
Study Design:
Observational case series.
Place and Duration of Study:
Department of Pathology and Microbiology, AKUH, Karachi, from 2002 to 2012.
Methodology:
All reported cases of LC were retrieved from medical record. Clinical and pathological features were noted. Frequency percentages were determined.
Results:
There were 29 cases of LC predominantly males (62%). The mean age was 27.17 ±15.5 years. The commonest sites was anal/perianal region (24%) followed by extremities (17%) and tongue, (14%). Vulval LC was seen in 3 patients. Two cases were described on scrotum. The lesions were most …

Background: Despite decades of smoking prevalence declines and more recent smoke-free indoor and outdoor air laws, smoking causes 400,000 preventable deaths and secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure leads to 40,000 deaths from respiratory and cardiovascular disease among non-smokers annually. Built and social environment factors linked to smoking include tobacco retailer density and neighborhood poverty. Housing environments including multiunit housing are linked to SHS exposure and adverse health outcomes.

Heloma durums also known as corns are areas of hard, thickened skin which commonly occur on the feet, and can cause pain, discomfort, and they also tend to reoccur. Two cases of plantar heloma durums illustrated here were treated with same medicines with similar genetic make-up, that is, father and daughter. Father received the medicine after case taking whereas 15 years later, the daughter received homoeopathic treatment given to the father. วัตถุประสงค์: เพื่อพัฒนาแบบประเมินสมรรถนะผู้จัดการพยาบาลโรงพยาบาลเอกชน และตรวจสอบความตตรงและความเที่ยงของแบบประเมิน\n\nรูปแบบการวิจัย: การพัฒนาเครื่องมือ\n \nวิธีดำเนินการวิจัย: ประกอบด้วย 2 ขั้น คือ ขั้นที่ 1 ศึกษาสมรรถนะผู้จัดการพยาบาล โรงพยาบาลเอกชน และขั้นที่ 2 การพัฒนาและตรวจสอบคุณภาพแบบแบบประเมินสมรรถนะผู้จัดการพยาบาล โรงพยาบาลเอกชน กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ ผู้จัดการพยาบาล จำนวน 330 คน เครื่องมือวิจัย คือ แบบประเมินสมรรถนะผู้จัดการพยาบาล ประกอบด้วยสมรรถนะหลัก 7 ด้าน และ 63 สมรรถนะย่อย ตรวจสอบความตรงตามเนื้อหาโดยผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ 5 คน CVI .88 ค่าความเที่ยงสัมประสิทธิ์แอลฟาครอนบาครายด้านมีค่าระหว่าง .51-.79 และค่าความเที่ยงทั้งฉบับ .98 วิเคราะห์ความตรงเชิงโครงสร้างโดยใช้สถิติวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงสำรวจ สกัดองค์ประกอบด้วยวิธีองค์ประกอบหลัก และหมุนแกนแบบแวริแมกซ์ \nกลุ่มตัวย่างที่ศึกษาเพื่อวิเคราะห์ความเที่ยงการประเมินระหว่างผู้ประเมิน ประกอบด้วย ผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายการพยาบาล ผู้จัดการพยาบาล และพยาบาลวิชาชีพ โรงพยาบาลเอกชน ขนาดตัวอย่างกลุ่มละ 15 คน โดยให้ผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายการพยาบาลและพยาบาลวิชาชีพ ประเมินสมรรถนะผู้จัดการพยาบาล และให้ผู้จัดการพยาบาลประเมินสมรรถนะของตนเอง วิเคราะห์ค่าความเที่ยงการประเมิน โดยใช้สถิติ Intraclass Correlation Coefficient\n \nผลการวิจัย: การวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงสำรวจ พบว่า แบบประเมินสมรรถนะของผู้จัดการพยาบาล โรงพยาบาลเอกชน ประกอบด้วย 6 สมรรถนะหลัก ได้แก่ 1) การจัดการเชิงกลยุทธ์ 2) ความฉลาดทางอารมณ์ 3) การติดต่อสื่อสารและการสร้างสัมพันธภาพระหว่างบุคคล 4) การจัดการทรัพยากรมนุษย์ 5) การพัฒนาบุคลากรพยาบาลที่มีศักยภาพสูง 6) การใช้เทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศ มีรายการสมรรถนะรวมทั้งสิ้น 46 รายการ เป็นแบบประเมินที่มีความตรงตามเนื้อหา มีความตรงเชิงโครงสร้าง มีความเที่ยงทั้งฉบับ .98 และมีความเที่ยงการประเมินระหว่างผู้ประเมินเฉลี่ย .89\n\nสรุป: ผู้บริหารโรงพยาบาลเอกชน สามารถนำผลการวิจัยไปใช้เป็นแนวทางในการเตรียมความพร้อมในการปฏิบัติงานตำแหน่งผู้จัดการให้มีประสิทธิภาพ และใช้ประเมินสมรรถนะผู้จัดการพยาบาล\n

วัตถุประสงค์: ศึกษาอำนาจการทำนายของตัวแปรทัศนคติ การคล้อยตามกลุ่มอ้างอิง และการรับรู้ความสามารถในการควบคุมพฤติกรรม ต่อความสม่ำเสมอในการรับประทานยาในผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดหัวใจ\n \nรูปแบบการวิจัย: การวิจัยแบบบรรยายเชิงทำนาย\n \nวิธีดำเนินการวิจัย: กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ ผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดหัวใจ ทั้งเพศชายและเพศหญิง อายุ 18 ปีขึ้นไป ที่มารับการตรวจรักษาที่แผนกผู้ป่วยนอก ศูนย์หัวใจสิริกิติ์ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น จำนวน 78 ราย เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล แบบประเมินทัศนคติ แบบประเมินการคล้อยตามกลุ่มอ้างอิง แบบประเมินการรับรู้ความสามารถในการควบคุมพฤติกรรม และแบบประเมินความสม่ำเสมอในการรับประทานยาในผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดหัวใจ มีค่าความเที่ยงเท่ากับ .74, .93, .89 และ .70 ตามลำดับ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และสถิติ Binary logistic regression\n\nผลการวิจัย: ทัศนคติ การคล้อยตามกลุ่มอ้างอิง และการรับรู้ความสามารถในการควบคุมพฤติกรรม สามารถร่วมกันทำนายความสม่ำเสมอในการรับประทานยาในผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดหัวใจได้ ร้อยละ 17 (Nagelkerke R2 = .170) โดยความสามารถในการควบคุมพฤติกรรมสามารถทำนายความสม่ำเสมอในการรับประทานยาในผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดหัวใจได้อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (β = -.199, p = .032)\n \nสรุป: พยาบาลควรมีการประเมินปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อความสม่ำเสมอในการรับประทานยาของผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดหัวใจ เพื่อนำข้อมูลไปใช้วางแผนส่งเสริมความสม่ำเสมอในการรับประทานยาให้มากขึ้น \n

วัตถุประสงค์: เพื่อศึกษาสมรรถนะของหัวหน้าพยาบาล โรงพยาบาลเอกชนที่ผ่านการรับรองคุณภาพโรงพยาบาลมาตรฐานระดับสากล\n \nรูปแบบการวิจัย: การวิจัยเชิงพรรณนา โดยใช้เทคนิคเดลฟาย\n\nวิธีดำเนินการวิจัย: ผู้ให้ข้อมูล คือ ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการบริหารโรงพยาบาลระดับสากล ด้านการบริหารการพยาบาล และด้านการศึกษาพยาบาล จำนวน 17 คน การดำเนินการวิจัยประกอบด้วย 3 ขั้นตอน ดังนี้ ขั้นตอนที่ 1 ศึกษาและวิเคราะห์เอกสาร เพื่อนำสาระที่ได้มาบูรณาการกำหนดเป็นกรอบในการสร้างคำถามสัมภาษณ์ และทำการสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ ขั้นตอนที่ 2 นำข้อมูลที่ได้มาวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาร่วมกับสมรรถนะที่ได้จากการทบทวนวรรณกรรม นำมาสร้างแบบสอบถามเพื่อให้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ ได้แสดงความคิดเห็นเกี่ยวกับระดับความสำคัญของข้อรายการสมรรถนะในแต่ละด้าน ขั้นตอนที่ 3 นำข้อมูลที่ได้มาคำนวณหาค่ามัธยฐาน และค่าพิสัยระหว่างควอไทล์ จัดส่งแบบสอบถามให้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญยืนยันความคิดเห็นอีกครั้ง นำข้อมูลที่ได้มาวิเคราะห์หาค่ามัธยฐาน และค่าพิสัยระหว่างควอไทล์ เพื่อสรุปผลการวิจัย\n\nผลการวิจัย: สมรรถนะของหัวหน้าพยาบาล โรงพยาบาลเอกชนที่ผ่านการรับรองคุณภาพโรงพยาบาลมาตรฐานระดับสากล ผู้เชี่ยวชาญให้ระดับความสำคัญของสมรรถนะสอดคล้องกันทุกข้อ ประกอบด้วยสมรรถนะ 10 ด้าน รวม 81 ข้อ ได้แก่ 1) สมรรถนะด้านการจัดการวิสัยทัศน์เชิงกลยุทธ์ 7 ข้อ 2) สมรรถนะด้านการจัดการงบประมาณ 9 ข้อ 3) สมรรถนะด้านความฉลาดทางอารมณ์ 10 ข้อ 4) สมรรถนะด้านการจัดการคุณภาพผลลัพธ์ทางการพยาบาล 9 ข้อ 5) สมรรถนะด้านการบริหารเชิงธุรกิจและการตลาด 10 ข้อ 6) สมรรถนะด้านการบริหารโดยยึดมั่นหลักธรรมาภิบาล 9 ข้อ 7) สมรรถนะด้านการใช้เทคโนโลยีและสารสนเทศสมัยใหม่ 7 ข้อ 8) สมรรถนะด้านการนำสู่การเปลี่ยนแปลง 7 ข้อ 9) สมรรถนะด้านการจัดการงานที่ท้าทาย 7 ข้อ และ 10) สมรรถนะด้านการทำงานเป็นทีม 6 ข้อ\n\nสรุป: ผลการวิจัยนี้ผู้บริหารระดับสูงสามารถนำไปใช้เป็นแนวทางในการสรรหา วางแผน และพัฒนาสมรรถนะพยาบาลผู้ที่จะเข้ามาดำรงตำแหน่งหัวหน้าพยาบาล และเป็นแนวทางในการฝึกอบรมหัวหน้าพยาบาล\n

Abstract

The case of a 38-year old female, victim of a road traffic accident who presented with a near complete aortic transection is presented. An emergent repair employing cardiopulmonary bypass was attempted in the operating room. Anticipating a high-risk of compromise to cerebral perfusion from air micro-emboli, the bypass was attempted with an innovative approach involving the successful cannulation of the pulmonary artery and descending aorta. The patient survived and was found to be doing well on subsequent post-operative visits.

High levels of arsenic exposure have been associated with increases in cardiovascular disease risk. However, studies of arsenic’s effects at lower exposure levels are limited and few prospective studies exist in the United States using long-term arsenic exposure biomarkers. We conducted a prospective analysis of the association between toenail arsenic and cardiovascular disease mortality using longitudinal data collected on 3939 participants in the New Hampshire Skin Cancer Study. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether expected changes in body weight via a three day low-carbohydrate (CHO) diet will disrupt the reliability of air displacement plethysmography measurements via BOD POD. Twenty-four subjects recorded their typical diets for three days prior to BOD POD and seven-site skinfold analyses. Subjects were matched for lean body mass and divided into low-CHO (LC) and control (CON) groups. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the electroencephalography (EEG) patterns between healthy and epileptic dogs, to analyze the diagnostic value of scalp EEG for canine epilepsy under sedation with dexmedetomidine and to provide canine standard protocol. EEG of 29 epileptic dogs and 17 control dogs was recorded. Normal patterns, interictal epileptiform, and non-epileptiform abnormalities were interpreted using visual analysis by board-certified epileptologists. Results revealed that 34% of the dogs with epilepsy did not show discernible abnormalities on their EEG recordings.
