Pendahuluan. Infeksi hati kronik merupakan penyebab penting morbiditas serta mortalitas di antara penderita HIV positif pada pemakaian highly active antiretroviral therapies (HAART). Penyakit hati kronik dapat terjadi mulai dari infeksi tersamar sampai karsinoma hepatoselular. Kejadian VHB tersamar sering ditemukan pada pasien dengan kondisi imunosupresi seperti HIV. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui besarnya proporsi hepatitis B tersamar, hitung CD4+, transmisi IVDU, proporsi hepatitis C dan proporsi anti-HBc yang positif pada koinfeksi hepatitis B tersamar pada pasien HIV/AIDS di RSCM.

Pendahuluan. Proktitis radiasi merupakan komplikasi yang sering dijumpai akibat terapi radiasi pada pasien keganasan pelvis. Berbeda dengan proktitis radiasi akut yang umumnya self-limiting, proktitis radiasi kronik (PRK) dapat berdampak pada menurunnya kualitas hidup dan meningkatnya biaya kesehatan, morbiditas, dan bahkan mortalitas pasien. Studi di luar negeri menunjukkan malnutrisi pada pasien geriatri yang dirawat di rumah sakit menurunkan kesintasan. Pasien usia lanjut di Indonesia mempunyai karakteristik yang berbeda dengan pasien usia lanjut di luar negeri. Di Indonesia belum ada studi tentang status nutrisi pasien usia lanjut yang dirawat di rumah sakit dan pengaruhnya terhadap kesintasan. Penyakit batu empedu telah menjadi masalah kesehatan penting di banyak negara. Estimasi prevalensi penyakit batu saluran empedu yang menyertai penyakit batu empedu adalah sekitar 10-15% dan meningkat dengan usia lanjut. Sindrom Mirizzi adalah komplikasi dari penyakit batu empedu yang jarang terjadi. Karakteristik yang khas yaitu adanya impaksi batu empedu di duktus sistikus atau di leher kandung empedu sehingga menghasilkan obstruksi mekanik di duktus hepatikus dan menghasilkan striktur inflamasi di saluran empedu, sehingga menyebabkan ikterus obstruktif berkelanjutan. Kami laporkan sebuah kasus Sindrom Mirizzi pada laki-laki dewasa yang menyebabkan iketerus obstruktif dengan kolelitiasis.

Obat anti inflamasi non steroid (OAINS) merupakan salah satu golongan obat yang paling banyak dan paling sering diresepkan di Indonesia. Meskipun mampu mengurangi gejala inflamasi, penggunaan OAINS juga menimbulkan gangguan dalam mekanisme pertahanan mukosa saluran pencernaan. Kerusakan mukosa saluran pencernaan akibat OAINS tidak hanya dialami lambung, namun juga dialami oleh usus halus yang disebut enteropati. Namun demikian, enteropati akibat OAINS masih belum mendapat perhatian yang besar.

DNA vaccination of transchromosomal bovines (TcBs) with DNA vaccines expressing the codon-optimized (co) glycoprotein (GP) genes of Ebola virus (EBOV) and Sudan virus (SUDV) produce fully human polyclonal antibodies (pAbs) that recognize both viruses and demonstrate robust neutralizing activity. Each TcB was vaccinated by intramuscular electroporation (IM-EP) a total of four times and at each administration received 10 mg of the EBOV-GPco DNA vaccine and 10 mg of the SUDV-GPco DNA vaccine at two sites on the left and right sides, respectively. Nursing students are unfamiliar with roles and responsibilities of their healthcare colleagues and how partnering with them can impact patient health outcomes. Many are unaware of how an interprofessional healthcare team contributes to preventing and resolving healthcare issues affecting care transition from tertiary settings back to the community. Case “Ivan” is a real lived experience that was shared to prepare nursing and allied health students for interprofessional, patient-centered care practice.

Telomeric abnormalities caused by loss of function of the RecQ helicase WRN are linked to the multiple premature ageing phenotypes that characterize Werner syndrome. Here we examine WRN's role in telomeric maintenance, by comparing its action on a variety of DNA structures without or with telomeric sequences. Our results show that WRN clearly prefers to act on strand invasion intermediates in a manner that favours strand invasion and exchange. Moreover, WRN unwinding of these recombination structures is further enhanced when the invading strand contains at least three G-rich single-stranded telomeric repeats. Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is the etiological agent for Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS). Both KSHV and KS are endemic in sub-Saharan Africa where approximately 84% of global KS cases occur. Nevertheless, whole-genome sequencing of KSHV has only been completed using isolates from Western countries—where KS is not endemic. The lack of whole-genome KSHV sequence data from the most clinically important geographical region, sub-Saharan Africa, represents an important gap as it remains unclear whether genomic diversity has a role on KSHV pathogenesis. Background: Drug overdose mortality is the leading cause of injury death in both the United States (US) and New York City (NYC). Heroin-related overdoses make up the majority of overdoses in NYC. Since 2006, when a law was passed that allowed for layperson administration of naloxone, an opioid antagonist, heroin-related overdose deaths have decreased in NYC. Patients' experiences in hospitals are important indicators of quality. Patients' opinions about their experiences in hospitals are significantly associated with their opinions of those hospitals' nursing services. Nurses in the US have traditionally focused on patients' experiences, and Peplau's (1952/1991) theory of interpersonal relations is early evidence of that focus. This study tested Peplau's (1952/1991) theory of interpersonal relations in nursing using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on data from 12,436 patient experience surveys. Molecular imaging is very promising technique used for surgical guidance, which requires advancements related to properties of imaging agents and subsequent data retrieval methods from measured multispectral images. In this article, an upconversion material is introduced for subsurface near-infrared imaging and for the depth recovery of the material embedded below the biological tissue. The results confirm significant correlation between the analytical depth estimate of the material under the tissue and the measured ratio of emitted light from the material at two different wavelengths. This study examined speech perception abilities in young adults (18-24 years) who reported having difficulty perceiving speech in the presence of background noise despite clinically-normal hearing. The purpose of this study was to compare the audiometric profile of young adults with and without perceived difficulty with speech perception in noise. The Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ) was administered to obtain a measure of how participants rate their speech perception in noise under different listening conditions. Asthma is the most common chronic childhood condition, affecting about nine million children in the United States. Despite effective treatments available to children and their families, adherence to asthma self-management is low. This paper identifies barriers to asthma-self-management and discusses effective education and behavioral strategies to promote self-management in children with asthma. Implications specific to the profession of nursing are incorporated throughout the discussion. In addition to practical nursing interventions in clinic and hospital settings, areas of future nursing research are addressed.

The brain's input/output functions depend heavily on temporal processing. We sought to identify regions of the brain active in task performance during temporal discrimination of a sub-second auditory interval. We presented ten subjects with 40 paired tones and asked them to judge whether these comparison intervals were longer or shorter than a 100 ms standard. We then localized correlations between the Blood Oxygenation Level Dependent signal and task performance across subjects using event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging. Self-efficacy has repeatedly been demonstrated to be a robust predictor of outcomes in the treatment of marijuana use disorders. It is not clear, however, how increases in confidence in ability to refrain from use get translated into actual improvements in drug-related outcomes. Marlatt, among others, viewed the acquisition and use of coping skills as the key to behavior change, and self-efficacy as a cognitive state that enabled coping. BACKGROUND: Silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) can enter the brain and induce neurotoxicity. However, the toxicity of Ag-NPs on the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and the underlying mechanism(s) of action on the BBB and the brain are not well understood.

METHOD: To investigate Ag-NP suspension (Ag-NPS)-induced toxicity, a triple coculture BBB model of rat brain microvascular endothelial cells, pericytes, and astrocytes was established. The BBB permeability and tight junction protein expression in response to Ag-NPS, NP-released Ag ions, and polystyrene-NP exposure were investigated. Post-transcriptional regulation is a powerful mediator of gene expression, and can rapidly alter the expression of numerous transcripts involved in tumorigenesis. We have previously shown that the mRNA-binding protein HuR (ELAVL1) is elevated in human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) specimens compared to normal pancreatic tissues, and its cytoplasmic localization is associated with increased tumor stage.
