Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) is an important corneal defense enzyme for protecting against hydrogen peroxides and lipid peroxides. In the present study, corneal GPx activities after alkali burn of the cornea were evaluated in rabbits. Materials and methods: Corneal alkali burn was created in the right eye of 10 rabbits by applying a 6 mm round filter paper soaked in 1 N NaOH onto the central cornea for 60 s. The normative data for the newborn clitoral length will enable physicians to avoid overdiagnosing or underdiagnosing disorders related to the condition. This study is the first to investigate clitoris length in newborn females in Turkey. Materials and methods: A total of 325 newborns with normal gestational age born by uncomplicated spontaneous vaginal delivery were included in the study. The body weight, body length, head circumference, and clitoral size were measured. To evaluate the demographic characteristics, clinical and laboratory features, underlying medical conditions, treatment, and outcome of hospitalized patients with laboratory-confirmed infection due to the 2009 influenza A(H1N1) virus. Acid phosphatase locus 1 (ACP1) encodes a polymorphic enzyme and has potential implications for the development of metabolic syndrome (MS) by altering insulin sensitivity. The aim of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between ACP1 genotypes and various metabolic syndrome risk factors. Materials and methods: We employed a PCR-RFLP based genotyping of ACP1 in a cohort of 70 patients with MS and 168 healthy individuals. To evaluate the reproductive outcome after hysteroscopic metroplasty in women with a septate uterus, with particular focus on patients suffering from unexplained infertility. Materials and methods: Hysteroscopic septum resection was performed on 181 patients with uterine septa, including 98 patients with infertility and 83 patients with secondary infertility. Patients were placed into 1 of 3 groups: those with unexplained infertility, those who had experienced 1 miscarriage, and those who had experienced 2 or more miscarriages. To compare nondiagnostic fine needle aspiration biopsy cytology results between pathologists and clinicians. Fine needle aspiration biopsy has proven to be a safe, economical, accurate, and rapid diagnostic technique. A successful aspiration biopsy requires a specimen with adequate cellularity, high-quality preparation, an experienced physician, and a cytopathologist. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has an important place in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases. This study discusses the outcomes of 3664 ERCPs in 3136 patients over the course of 10 years. Materials and methods: The records of 3664 ERCPs of 3136 patients, performed between January 2000 and January 2010, were retrospectively evaluated. Results: The age range was 4-94 years (mean: 55.1 years), and 1816 patients (57.9%) were female. To compare the clinical and the functional efficiency of 2 surgical methods that are used in open primary repair of acute Achilles tendon ruptures: one that utilizes the augmentation of the plantaris tendon and one that does not. To investigate the effect of caffeine on the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) in the liver and heart tissues of rats. Materials and methods: The current study included 30 rats, which were divided into 3 groups: a control group and 2 caffeine-treated groups. Haloperidol is a classic neuroleptic drug that induces motor abnormalities and cognitive impairment due to a blockade of dopamine D2 receptors in the striatum. To investigate the in vitro activity of linezolid and ofloxacin in combination with first-line antituberculosis agents (isoniazid and rifampicin) against M. tuberculosis strains. The use of combinations that include fluoroquinolones and oxazolidinone is now being considered for the treatment of resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains. Materials and methods: The minimum inhibitory concentrations of the test drugs were determined by the standard agar dilution method. The interaction of drug combinations was investigated by time-kill method. To model the level and structure of the dependence between thyroid hormones by using the copula approach. Materials and methods: Dependence models were constructed with the help of copula functions explaining the relationships between thyroid hormones for the data supplied by Dokuz Eylül University's Faculty of Medicine's endocrine laboratory. For this purpose, 684 patients aged 0-85 were examined. Results: Results indicated that none of the pairs of thyroid hormones exhibited a tail dependence structure; however, valid models exhibited a symmetric dependence structure. Comparison was made based on the number of retrieved and fertilized oocytes, metaphase 2 (M2, mature) oocytes, and transferred embryos, as well as fertilization, pregnancy, and live birth rates. Ultrasound-guided transvaginal oocyte retrieval for in vitro fertilization is one of the most common minor surgical procedures. To test the hypothesis that serum S100B levels could be useful in detecting neurological damage in infants with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). To investigate the seroprevalence of Anaplasma phagocytophilum in people living in 2 different climatic regions and to evaluate the co-seroprevalence rate of A. phagocytophilum with Borrelia burgdorferi. Sinop and Tokat provinces, both in the middle Black Sea region of Turkey, have distinct climatic features. Materials and methods: In 2006-2007, serum samples were collected from people living in rural areas of Tokat and Sivas, and anti-A. phagocytophilum IgG antibodies were explored by the IFA method.
