Stem cell biology is an exciting field that will lead to significant advancements in science and medicine. We hypothesize that inducing the expression of stem cell genes, using the embryonic stem cell gene nanog, will reprogram cells and dedifferentiate human mesenchymal stem cells into pluripotent stem cells capable of neural differentiation. The aims of initial studies are as follows: Aim 1: Demonstrate that forced expression of the embryonic stem cell gene nanog induces changes in human mesenchymal stem cells to an embryonic stem cell-like phenotype. Distinct Domains Of Bax Are Involved In Mitochondrial Bioenergetics And Apoptosis, Ge Zhang

Apoptosis is essential for cellular homeostasis and is also a pathologic feature of various diseases. The balance between Bcl-2 family proteins determines whether a cell will live or die. Bax, a member of the BCL-2 family proteins, is a pro-apoptotic protein that exists in both a soluble, cytoplasmic form and a membrane-bound form. Upon apoptotic stimuli, Bax undergoes a conformational change and translocates to the mitochondria, initiating apoptotic events. However, little is known about whether Bax is involved in the regulation of mitochondrial function under non-apoptotic conditions, and how Bax binds to mitochondria to exert its activity. This qualitative study included women who had gone through the menopausal transition and had experienced obesity, and it focused on their weight histories and experiences across the life course. The goal of this research was to add to the body of knowledge concerning weight gain by applying a novel middle range theory (story theory). A qualitative design was used to explore the use of spirituality and prayer by older adults who have chronic illness and reside in a rural community. Thirteen individuals responded to a flyer soliciting participation in a study of the use of spirituality as part of health care. Participants were at least 60 years of age, had at least one chronic illness and resided in North Central Florida. Twelve participants then responded to six open-ended questions based on an adaption of an instrument used by Dr. Shevon Harvey in her doctoral dissertation. This research is a qualitative study that aimed to anthropologically explore the effects of consistent long-term yogic practice on the acceptance and practice of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) among yoga practitioners at a South Florida yoga center. I wished to determine, through in-depth interviews, whether or not yogic practice affects acceptance of CAM. The main objective was to interview individuals from a single yoga center that have practiced yoga at least once per week for at least one year concerning their beliefs about CAM, yoga, and health. This study was a preliminary investigation into the reliability of cardiac vagal tone (CVT) as a measure of regulatory sensory processing in typically developing children and children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). We also examined group differences in CVT at rest and in response to sensation and the relationship of CVT to behavioral measures of sensory processing. The purpose of our study was to determine the contribution of Şerefeddin Sabuncuoğlu's achievement to bring gynecology to the modern knowledge level. The gynecological tools in the achievement of Serefeddin Sabuncuoğlu, who is the late period representative of classical medical paradigm, are examined in connection with the achievement of Zahravi, which belongs to the classical medical literature. It was determined that in the long time interval from Zahravi to Sabuncuoğlu a limited advancement occurred in medical knowledge, and that the differences between the achievements of the 2 doctors are important for reflecting the development between the 2 periods.

Cyst membrane, daughter cyst, and pericyst are the focal point of some problems related to the percutaneous treatment of hydatid disease. This study was planned to investigate the in vitro efficacy of sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, some widely used scolicidal agents, and some chemical solvents on hydatid cyst components. Materials and methods: To investigate the effects of various pharmacological and chemical agents on hydatid cyst components, 5 mL each of 15 different agents was put into bottles. To compare the motility yields of single or double wash after density gradient centrifugation of the ejaculate and their effects on pregnancy rates in clomiphene citrate induced intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles. Materials and methods: This prospective randomized controlled study included 341 IUI cycles. Sperm specimens processed by density gradient centrifugation either with single wash (the single wash group, n = 170) or double wash treatment (the double wash group, n = 171).
